I submit to you that for the sake of our mental and emotional well-being, it’s important to understand and embrace change! In my experience, when we get stuck in a rut and have trouble accepting change, it sends us toward depression. Did you read about the sign posted on a horrifically muddy road? The young girl then asked her grandmother why she cut both ends of the ham, to which grandmother replied, “So it would fit in my small pan!” Little ones question, challenge and adapt to change better than we do. We can learn from them! When I was a little boy, my older brother Bob built a go-cart. It was a flat wooden platform on wheels with a lawn mower engine on the rear. Everything about it was perfect, with one major exception: the steering was reversed. Turning the steering wheel to the right caused the go-cart to go left and vice versa. Can you imagine turning a steering wheel right and a car going left? Dad didn’t change it; he let it stay the way it was made, perhaps so that his boys would adapt to unexpected changes. :) It was a good lesson and guess what? My brother and I adapted and cruised around the neighborhood with great joy. Have you heard the expression that “the only constant in life is change”? As we accept and embrace change, it will be okay and can be good for our health! :)

Ash WednesdayIn Christianity, the first day of

Lent—the period of fasting andrepentance leading up to Easter—is known as Ash Wednesday. Many Christians observe this holyday by receiving a mark of asheson their foreheads in the shape ofa cross. Traditionally, the ashes aremade by burning the palm frondsused in the previous year’s PalmSunday services. Since Biblicaltimes, the sprinkling of ashes overone’s body has been a sign ofrepentance, and thus AshWednesday reminds Christians oftheir own sin and mortality.Though the holiday seemssomber, it is seen by many as away to prepare for the joyousEaster holiday. We will observethis tradition on March 1st at10:00 during communion.

Welcome SpringThe first day of spring marks

the spring equinox, when the sunshines directly on the Earth’sequator, and the length of nightand day are nearly equal. This yearspring begins on March 20th. Wewill take a scenic drive to observethe season’s fresh blooms. March22nd, Wed. at 1:30 pm. If neededwe will arrange additional outingsto accommodate every resident.

Your Body and WaterEverybody knows the human

body needs water to survive. Butwhat does water do for you, exactly? The average adult’s bodyis about 60 percent water,two-thirds of it contained in cells.Water plays a crucial role in theformation of cells, which are oftencalled the building blocks of life.Simply speaking, without water, there is no human life. Most ofthe human body’s major systemsdepend on water to function.Water delivers oxygen andnutrients throughout the body, lubricates joints, flushes out wasteand toxins, and regulates thebody’s internal temperature. Thebrain, spinal cord and otherorgans are insulated with water, which acts as a shock absorberand helps prevent injury. Water

makes swallowing and digestionpossible and also metabolizesproteins and carbohydrates intoenergy. In fact, just a 5 percentdecrease in body fluids can causea 30 percent drop in a person’senergy level. So, instead ofdrinking coffee or othercaffeinated beverages, whichcontribute to dehydration, the keyto feeling more energetic may beto drink more water. Adults needbetween 2 and 3 liters of waterevery day, but some of this watercan come from food. Fresh fruitsand vegetables are especiallyhydrating.

“The mind is like an iceberg; itfloats with one-seventh of its bulkabove water.” Sigmund Freud
