Earliest Photos• The Camera Obscura was a common sketching

device by the mid-1500s, and was used as early as 1100

• Daquerreotype Pictures- 1839– Used a sheet of silver plated copper bathed in iodine to

expose the photos.– Daguerre’s process gained popularity quickly. With over 70

studios in NY city by 1850.

Kodak

• Eastman invented the Kodak camera in 1888.– Considered the first commercial camera– Took 100 photos, then it was sent back to the factory to

develop.– Used rolled film.

• In 1935, the one of the first successful color films was created, Kodachrome.– Other commercially viable color films followed.

Polaroid

• The polaroid camera was created in 1948• It was capable of developing a picture within minutes of being taken.

Digital Cameras• The first digital still camera was created by Canon

in 1984.
