Having spent most of your time in school, you’ll need a helping hand progressing from education to the workplace - and this is what a Traineeship is for.

A Traineeship is made up of training that will prepare you for work as well as a high quality work experience placement.

Once you’ve completed a Traineeship you will be ready to progress onto an Apprenticeship or secure a job.

English and Maths training if you need to improve your skills in these areas

All the support you need to progress onto the next stage of your life

And, once you have completed the Traineeship you will gain a Level 1 qualification in your chosen route.

Engagement explainedUnsure of what Traineeship you want to do? Or need a little bit more time and support before you go on work placement? Choose an Engagement Traineeship. This programme will give you the opportunity to test a number ofroutessoyoucanfindoutwhatyoulikeandwhatyou’re good at - helping you make an informed career choice. An Engagement Traineeship is part-time so you will be paid on a part-time rate of £30 a week plus travel expenses.

Traineeship Level 1 explainedOur Level 1 Traineeship programme is a stepping stone towards an Apprenticeship. This programme enables youtogainaLevel1qualificationinyourchosenroutebyproviding you with a work placement. Level 1 is a full-time programme and you will be paid £50 a week plus travel expenses.

Animal Care Love animals? Our Animal Care route will teach you how to care for animals. You will learn about animal health and wellbeing, feeding and handling as well as assisting with animal accommodation - perfect for anyone wanting to get into the animal care industry.

Work placements include: community farms, dog groomers, pet shops, kennels, catteries, reptile shops, stables, livery yards, riding schools and racing yards.

Automotive Engineering Love cars, motorbikes, engines and all things mechanical? Try our Automotive Engineering route! You’ll learn basic repairskills,bodywork,andtyrefittingaswellascarandmotor bike mechanics.

Work placements include: car dealers, local mechanics, body shops, MOT centres and motor bike specialists.

Beauty This route will give you an exciting introduction into the beauty industry and will teach you how to perform your own basic beauty treatments.

Work placements include: our fully-equipped beauty salons at our Cardiff, Caerphilly and Bridgend skill centres that are open to the public as well as local beauty salons.

Business AdministrationDoyouseeyourselfworkinginanofficeenvironment,wearing a suit and attending meetings? If so, our Business Administration route is for you. This route will give you the knowledgeandskillsonhowtoupdateadministrationfiles,organise resources, organise employees and interact with customers and clients. Our Business Administration route will also give you brilliant ‘transferable skills’ – skills that you can use in any work place such as communication and team work.

Work placements include:legalfirms,trainingcompanies,e-commercebusinesses,accountancyfirmsandmanymore.

Care

Are you committed to helping make a difference to people’s lives, patient and enthusiastic as well as creative and energetic? If so, a career in care would be great for you. It will give you the opportunity to develop the basic skills, techniques and personal skills you need to work in a caring role with children, adults or the elderly.

Work placements include: nurseries, hospitals, leisure centres, care homes, hospitals and many more.

Construction

Start your career in construction by learning the basic ‘hands on’ skills in carpentry, joinery, plaster, bricklaying, plumbing, painting and decorating on our part-time construction route. YouwillalsobefirstaidtrainedandgivenaCertificationCard Scheme for Construction (CSCS).

Work placements include: our in-house construction sites in Cardiff and Caerphilly.

Customer Service This route will give you the skills and knowledge to deal with customers in all sorts of situations, from retail and hospitality to recreation and telecommunications. You will learn how to communicate with customers, how to go the extra mile and how to handle awkward customers.

Work placements include: shops, hotels, leisure centres, call centres and many more.

Hairdressing and Barbering This route will give you an exciting introduction into the hairdressing and barbering industry and will teach you basic hairdressing/barbering skills.

Work placements include: our fully-equipped salons at our Cardiff, Caerphilly and Bridgend skill centres that are open to the public as well as local hair salons and barbers.

Hospitality & Catering

This route is for all budding chefs, kitchen assistants, waiters/waitresses, housekeepers or hotel receptionists. Depending on your interests you will learn the basics of professional cooking, food safety and serving food and drinks. What’s more, our skills centres have in-house fully functioning training kitchens which are used to teach basic culinary skills before you go out on work placements.

Work placements include: Miskin Manor, Celtic Manor, Radisson Blu and Terry’s Patisserie.

ICT

If you’re whiz at computers or fancy getting into the creative media world then this route is for you. From backend planning and development to working with audio, video and digital design software you will get an introduction to this high-tech industry and where it can take you.

Work placements include: web agencies, design agencies, IT departments, charities, local businesses and many more.

Retail

From big corporate chains to small corner shops, from clothing to food and from high street to online – the job opportunities in retail are endless. If this is a sector you want to work in then this route is a must. You will gain essential retail knowledge and pick up lots of ‘transferable skills’ – skills that you can use in any work place such as communication and team work.

Work placements include: supermarkets, high street shops, shoppingcentres,headofficesandonlinebusinesses.

Who can join?The programme is for 16-18 year olds who want to be challenged and are almost ready for work. You must already hold a GCSE C grade or above in English and Maths or a Level 1 or above in Communication and Application of Number ESW.

What will I do on the programme?The programme runs on a group basis for 10-weeks at a time.Inthefirst6weeks,youwillundertakeaPersonalandSocialDevelopment,Level1qualificationtoenhanceyour employability potential and skills and a Level 1 BTEC in Customer Service or a subject that relates to your career choice. You will be given a placement opportunity where you will be for 4 weeks before becoming employed as an Apprentice.

What happens after I complete the programme?After successful completion of the course and employment as an Apprentice, you will move onto a Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship in the most suitable qualification.InmostinstancesthiswillbeCustomerService, Retail or Business Administration.

Do you already hold a GCSE grade C or above in English and Math or Level 1 or above in Communication and Application of Number Essential Skills Wales (ESW)? Then get fast tracked into the workplace with our new Fast Tack Career Programme in Ocean Park House, Cardiff. This 10-week programme will push and challenge you to nothing like before to ensure you progress onto the career ofyourdreams.Ithasbeendesignedtospecificallyenhance your employability in an industry you want to work in whether that is customer service, accounting, retail, care etc before going onto an Apprenticeship.

During your time at ACT your tutor and assessor will give you all the care support and guidance you need to work towards your Traineeship qualification.

However, there are other support services available to ensure you make the most of your time at ACT.

As an ACT learner you will be able to take full advantage of our:

• Opportunities TeamEach centre has a dedicated team of people there to help youfindwork.Theyaretheretoguaranteeyoursuccessbeyond ACT so make sure you use them. They will equip you with the tricks, tips and techniques to help you with job searches, CV writing and interviews.

• Learner Representative We have a full-time Learner Representative who represents our learners. Learners can contact the Learner Rep with feedback, concerns and problems should they need to during their time at ACT.

• Safeguarding Officers and In-House CounsellorWhatever your problem, whether it is a problem you are experiencing on your learning journey or you have issues outside of ACT, our support team are there for your welfare and will give you the time and space to talk privately about your troubles and will help resolve any problems.

• Learning CoachesSimilar to a sports coach, our learner coaches are there to give you more direction and support to help you achieve your goals.
