Pokémon Types
Pokémon BasicsPokémon games are a series of role-playing games taking place in vast worlds inhabited by mysterious creatures called Pokémon. As a Pokémon Trainer, you will be able to catch, befriend, train and battle against hundreds of different Pokémon!
Shortly after you begin your adventure you will be able to choose your first Pokémon com-panion from among these three. Which one will you pick?
You will be able to catch new Pokémon by encountering them in the wild, weakening them in battle, and throwing special capturing devices called Poké Balls at them. There are hundreds of different Pokémon to meet – try to catch them all or build a team with your favourites!

FroakieType: Water

Now that you’ve chosen your first Pokémon, it’s time to discover what’s out there! You will be able to explore a huge region with towns, countryside areas where Pokémon live, and many secrets that beg to be unveiled!
Pokémon have different types, such as Fire, Grass or Water. Each type has its own strengths and weaknesses. For example, Fire-type combat moves will be very effec-tive against Grass-type Pokémon, but they won’t work so well on Water-type Pokémon. There are 18 different Pokémon types, giving you endless possibilities to build your team and devise your battle strategies!

Battling
Getting StrongerItems
Battling is one of the most important aspects of Pokémon games. You will be able to battle against Pokémon in the wild, or against the Pokémon of other Trainers.
As your Pokémon participate in battle, they will gain experience and grow stronger!
There are a variety of items you can use inside and outside of battle, ranging from potions to heal your Pokémon to repel-lents that allow you to avoid encountering wild Pokémon!
Evolution
Battling & Trading with Friends (Multiplayer)
After gaining enough experience, some Pokémon change form in a mysterious process called evolution! Evolved Pokémon are stronger, and sometimes they even change their type. Let’s see what happens to our friends Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie:

Quilladin
Froakie

Fennekin
Braixen
Connecting with other people is very important in Pokémon games – you can challenge your friends to battle or trade Pokémon with them! Traded Pokémon gain experience more quickly, and sometimes they even evolve through trade!

Evolves
12 13
Mega EvolutionUp until now, Pokémon could only evolve a certain number of times.
In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, that limit is broken with Mega Evolution – an evolution beyond all evolution!
This evolution is temporary and only lasts while in combat, but it will have amazing ef-fects on your Pokémon, such as boosting their skills or even changing their type!
A new type of Pokémon appears! Fairy type is the first new type to be introduced to the series in more than ten years.
Kalos is filled with new Fairy-type Pokémon, and some Pokémon from previous games have also been reclassified as Fairy-type Pokémon.
With this new type of Pokémon you’ll have even more possibilities than ever when it co-mes to devising your battle strategies!
Many other Pokémon have Mega-Evolved forms, including the classic partner Pokémon from Kanto. Discover them all!
