TIMBERWOOD PARK LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT A Neighborhood News, Inc. Publication Grand Opening of the clubhouse is FINALLY here. It is an exciting time for our great neighborhood. We are planning on a come and go open house style event on July 11, 10am-2pm. We are not planning on a very formal gathering due to the current COVID situation, but we do want everyone to come and see this wonderful new asset for our community – don’t forget your mask! With the opening of the new clubhouse, we will have a few new operating procedures. In order to provide a safe, secure and clean space a user agreement for access to the Fitness Center will be required. is agreement will outline for residents the risks and responsibilities associated with participation in an unsupervised fitness area, as well as, establish an annual fee of $25. We will have a table set up at the Grand Opening to complete the waiver and pay the $25 on site, and your existing key FOB will be activated. e form will also be available online for residents to access anytime at www.lifetimehoamanagement.com. It has been brought to the board’s attention that the neighborhood park tennis courts are being used to provide private lessons. As a friendly reminder, park rules state: One-on-one lessons by residents for residents are allowed with provisions, including by not limited to: non- interfering or monopolizing any area for more than one hour, lessons cannot be conducted back to back. We will be monitoring activity and enforcing these rules for the benefit of TWP residents. Since COVID started in March, the board decided we would evaluate each event 10 to 14 days prior to scheduled event date. We will continue this process as long as it is necessary. With so much continued uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 situation, the TPOA Board made the difficult decision in late June to cancel this year’s July 4th Picnic in the Park festivities. We know many of you are disappointed, and we share your disappointment as the July 4 activities have become a tradition for us and our families as well. e decision was precipitated primarily from the recent increase in infection rates and hospitalizations in Bexar County, but also from restrictions to ensure proper social distancing and number of persons allowed in one area. In a large event, restrictions may have led to persons being turned away and unable to attend the festivities. Management of gates would also require volunteers to count persons entering and exiting, putting them in direct contact with numerous people. is exposure would present an undue exposure risk on our volunteers. We truly thank you for your patience and understanding. In addition to the planned Grand Opening on July 11th, our next scheduled event is the Marcy Grace Band on July 17th. We really hope they will take place without a hitch, we are ready to enjoy our park! In the mean time I hope you have been enjoying all the great food trucks board member Abbey Lehner has been setting up. We are not planning on a very formal gathering due to the current COVID situation, but we do want everyone to come and see this wonderful new asset for our community – don’t forget your mask!

Our park is an amazing asset to our community. The board thought it may be helpful to share the best course of action for our community to operate if you have concerns in the park. All those using the park and its amenities do so at their own risk. Should you see or witness any concerning actions or behavior, the appropriate action is to call Bexar County Sherriff non-emergency line @ 210-335-6000 or in a true emergency, 911.

Timberwood Park Home Owners Association has no relationship or agreement with any crime watch group, or citizens group-per our Attorney’s recommendations.

If you have any concerns that are not a police matter, it is very important to use the appropriate channels to contact the TPOA, this is the only productive way to bring any issues to the board’s attention to address.

Timberwood Park Tree and Bench Donation Program

The Donation Program allows individuals to help with the beautification at Timberwood Park (TWP) recreational area by donating a tree or bench. Donations can recognized as a donation from a group or individual (for example, Donated by the Smith Family or John Smith) or it can be in memory to honor a loved one (for example, In Memory of Mary Smith).

Trees – The donor will work with the TWP Landscaping Committee for tree species and location. Trees will be large sized and planted professionally. Things to be considered are growing space available for newly planted tree and species diversity (Suggested list includes Mexican White Oak (aka Monterrey Oak), Chinkapin Oak, Texas Red Oak, Live Oak, Cedar Elm, Mexican Sycamore, Montezuma Bald Cypress, Lacey Oak, and Bur Oak. (All of these are recommended for Bexar County soil and weather conditions).

• Memorial trees will then be planted at the next desirable planting time (early spring or early fall) and will be maintained by the park maintenance personnel.

Benches – The metal benches will be consistent with other 6 foot benches that have recently been installed (see illustration below). Benches are of commercial grade construction. Donated benches are installed and maintained by the park maintenance personnel.

Once your donation has been successfully installed, the donor will be notified and will be recognized at next scheduled TPOA Board meeting with mention in the Timberwood News.

Name plaques of the same grade and style of previously installed plaques for the trees and benches will be added. The wording on the plaques must be approved by TPOA.

In addition, you and your family will receive a complimentary family pass for the upcoming swimming season at TWP pool.

To start the Tree/Bench donation process, complete the following information and drop it off at the TWP office located on the pool side of the Park Attendant’s home. You will then be contacted to assist you in ordering either a tree or bench. Cost of the benches are $750 and trees are $500 to be paid at the time you place the order.

11Timberwood Park Newsletter - July 2020

In the fall of 2017, a guy in Austin named George Milton conjured up a very unique version of hot sauce, made with habaneros, tangerines, lime, garlic, onions, vinegar and carrots. Sounds odd, right? Maybe even mad scientist odd. After letting his “beta batch” ferment in his pantry for a month, he sampled it, was amazed at the taste, and embarked upon a revolutionary path paved by the public’s taste buds.

Today, Yellowbird Sauces (a name derived primarily from the bright color of the original recipe) boasts five flavors: jalapeno, serrano, habanero, ghost pepper, and blue agave sriracha…as well as an organic line. Quite honestly, they all are wonderful, and I use each for different foods. My “go to” is the Blue Agave Sriracha, which I drizzle on my eggs. The others, I often rotate for chicken and sausage dishes. Be aware that the spice level is higher than average, but from a comprehensive viewpoint, the palette of flavor on the palate is just remarkable. See what I did there?

You can find Yellowbird’s collection at the ubiquitous HEB, at a cost of $5 each. Once you begin the journey into Milton’s zesty flavor realm, you’ll be hooked.

A sly smile and a knowing wink until next month…
