A note to you: Are you having a happy New Year? Yes, it’s past time of year for New Y ear’s resolutions. New Year’s resolutions are new ways to be happy. Pollsters say that by now most people have given up on their New Year’s resolutions . The biggest question we all face now is how to have a happy every year. Happy means enjoying wellbeing and contentment and to be like that all year. You might ask how is it possible in this economy- with all that’s happening in this world to be happy? What’s the recipe? What ingredients does it take to be happy as a Christian? King David gives us the ingredients. First, he resolved to read the Bible, and apply it’s teachings to his life. Some Christians read everything but the Bible in their everyday life, and then read the Bible only in church. They are guilty of neglect in the matter of reading the Word of God. Here is King David's resolution: Psalms 119:15-17 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word. Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word. Do you see what  you could say? I will read and study the Bible every day in the coming year. I will apply the teachings of the Bible to my life in the various situations and temptations I encounter.  Second,  King David made a resolution about prayer. We find  that resolution in: Psalms 116:1 I love the Lord, because He has heard My vo ice and my supplications Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. King David had many experiences with God and he knew that God answered prayer. So he said  that he was going to keep calling on God as long as he lived. Every Christian knows  that God answers prayer - the same God who heard  King David hears you and me. We can have a happy new year as a Christian by following King David’s resolutions. Find it Here 2011 has all the ingredients to get us started with our resolutions. Here is the 21 day commitment that’s a part of Find It Here 2011. Therefore, I make the following 21 day commitment: 1.To seek God about what my specific fast should be. “Fasting is a Christ follower’s voluntary denial of food or another normal behavior for the purpose of intense spiritual pursuit” * What will I abstain or fast from? ________________________ _ 2. To fast and pray, pursuing God and the salvation of the following 3 people. (1) ____________________ (2) ____________________ (3) ____________________ 3. To read in sequential order, one chapter each day from the Gospel of John (21 chapters). 4. After completion of my 21 day prayer and fast, to deliver a marked copy of the scriptures (Gospel of John/Romans) to each of the 3 people I’ve been praying for. 5. Finally, to invite each of the 3 people I’ve been praying for to attend church with me. One big opportunity is Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011. My prayer for you is that you will commit to pray for those that are lost without Christ around you, that you resolve to be closer to God this year and that you will have a happy this year.
