From the prophecies given on when our savior was to rise from the grave it is revealed that a 72 hour entombment is impossible. Simply put, if he were in the grave for 72 hours then the prophecies that say he would rise on the third day were not fulfilled. Thus, our savior was not in the tomb for 72 hours and the day he died on wasn't a Wednesday.

meaning and therefore is a poor translation of the word Elohim. Therefore, for a better rendition of the

original word, Elohim, it has been restored throughout this study and in the Scriptural quotes where the

word God was translated from the word, Elohim.

Within the Scriptural quotes words such as: Messiah, stake, and impaled were used instead of: Christ,

cross, and crucified, because of personal preference. The use of these words did not change the context of

Purpose Of This Article

This article was written with the intent of establishing sound doctrine. Although many may shrug such a

topic as this off as being unimportant but to teach or to go along with something that is not in line with

Scripture the person doing so is not doctrinally sound in what they believe or teach (2Tim. 4:3; Tit. 2:1).

Furthermore, to teach something that is not true the person teaching it can be considered as being a, liar,

which is in direct conflict with the commandments. (Ex. 20:16; Rev 22:15)

From a study such as this more is achieved from its findings than just establishing what day our savior died.

Take for instance, from knowing the truth concerning what day our savior died some believe helps

determine whether the Scriptural year can or can’t begin before the vernal equinox (see Appendix 1, The

Year In Which Our Savior Died [p 49]). Also, understanding this topic helps show that what some have

determined the meaning of a prophecy to be is in error, because the way that they lay out the prophecy the

year that they proclaim our savior died is in error, therefore establishing that their interpretation of the

prophecy is incorrect. From understanding that Passover wasn’t on the day that Scripture points to as being

the day our savior died it is proved that their understanding of a prophecy is in error when their prophecy

concludes he died on another day, although the way they have it charted out may seem impressive, from

which many are deceived. Fewer would be deceived if they had the knowledge of and cherished these and

other seemingly unimportant truths. (Hos. 4:6; 2Thess. 2:5-12)

So, having an understanding of this seemingly meaningless issue can really play into our deciphering

whether or not some other harder to be understood issues are true or false. Many who claim to have an

understanding of some complex issues claim divine revelation, which astounds many, because the issues

are so complex. But from an understanding of some of the basics proves from what source their divine

revelation comes.

Divine revelation from the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth (Jn. 16:13), thus, things that are divinely

revealed to us that are found to be in error were not revealed to us through the power of the Holy Spirit,

they were revealed to us from another spirit. (1Jn. 4:1)

Many false understandings can be charted out to make it seem as though they are credible and such is the

case with many prophecies, and such is the case with the belief that our savior died on either a Wednesday

or a Friday. However, when examining the Scriptural evidence that our savior died on either a Wednesday

or a Friday it is revealed that, at a glance, one teaching or the other is plausible, but those teachings are only

seemingly true from the use of a few pet Scriptures. In other words, those who teach such theories have a

Scripture here or a Scripture there that supports their theory; those Scriptures are their pets, but the

Scriptures that do not go along with their theory are ignored. Those Scriptures are not their pets.

I have often wondered why so many get so upset at examining a teaching that they claim is meaningless. Of

course, they get upset when their seemingly meaningless belief is proved false, but what might be behind

getting them upset even more over what they claim to be a meaningless issue is when the truth of the

meaningless issue reveals that what they believe concerning more meaningful issues are in error too.

Therefore, the intent of this study isn’t only to reveal the truth concerning what day our savior died; the

intent of this study is to allow the truth of this subject reflect on other truths as well.

Chapter 1 Sound Doctrine

Matthew 12:40 is often quoted for proof that our savior didn’t die on a Friday and from this verse of

Scripture many assume that he must have died on a Wednesday. Although this verse of Scripture makes it

clear that our savior didn’t die on a Friday but does this verse of Scripture establish that he died on a

Wednesday? At first glance it might seem as though it does but after considering the other prophecies that

foretell of his death and resurrection it becomes evident that neither, Wednesday, nor Friday, was the day

our savior died. Have you ever heard of the saying that the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle?

Well, in this case it does. Our savior didn’t die on a Wednesday, or on a Friday, he died on a, Thursday.

What Does It Matter?

Many who rightfully discern that our savior didn’t die on a Friday feel it important that the prophecy

concerning the three days our savior was to be in the sepulcher be understood from what we are told in

Matthew 12:39. In Matthew 12:39 our savior tells us, “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a

sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.”

From the above quoted verse of Scripture many conclude that in order to be sure that it is the true Messiah

we believe in we must have an understanding of “the sign of the prophet Jonas,” and to believe that our

savior died on a day other than the true day he died, the person who believes in such will ultimately be

deceived into worshiping a false Messiah. Thus, it is concluded that in order to be sure we are worshiping

the true Messiah we must have a proper understanding about “the sign of the prophet Jonas,” that “as Jonas

was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights

in the heart of the earth” (Mt. 12:40).

Sadly, however, from many who believe that our savior died on a Wednesday it has been my experience

that, although they feel it important that Christians know our savior didn’t die on a Friday, when it comes to

proving or disproving that he died on a Wednesday it all of a sudden becomes an issue of unimportance.

Think about it, with such reasoning people deem it wrong to believe in the falsehood that our savior died on

a Friday but when it comes to understanding whether or not our savior actually died on a Wednesday it is

no longer an issue of importance to many. Wouldn’t it be just as important to know that our savior

didn’t die on a Wednesday if he didn’t really die on a Wednesday, or will those who believe that our

savior died on a Wednesday, but don’t want to be challenged on the issue, conclude that there is no longer

anything wrong with believing that our savior died on a Friday?

Many who believe that our savior died on a Wednesday actually have the same mindset that many have that

believe our savior died on a Friday. Certain truths simply do not matter to them. However, in Titus 2:1 we

are instructed, “speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 reads, “For the

time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to

themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be

turned unto fables.” When sound doctrine is of no importance, truth is compromised.

Furthermore, to speak things contrary to what the Scriptures teach is bearing a false witness to what

Scripture says, which is a violation of the ninth commandment (Ex. 20:16). Truth is what Scripture is all

about (Jn. 4:23-24; 14:6; 16:13; 2Thess. 2:8-12). Surely we would be better off to know what the truth is so

we don’t lead others astray when witnessing. With this in mind, remember, “a little leaven leaveneth the

whole lump” (1Co 5:6). We are not allowed to hold on to false doctrines. (2Tim. 4:3; Titus 2:1)

What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Below is a diagram using Wednesday as the day of our savior’s death. Although it can be charted out to

make it look like a Wednesday impalement is in accordance with Matthew 12:40, and from what we are

told in Matthew 12:40 it can seem as though a Wednesday impalement is the only day that can be

concluded concerning the day our savoir died, but when considering the multiple other verses of Scripture

on the subject a Wednesday impalement clearly does not line up.

│ sundown on Saturday, “IN three days?” NO!!! │ │

│IF our Savior was in the sepulcher a FULL three days and three nights then │ │

│his resurrection wouldn’t have been, “in three days.” The three days are past. │ │

│ Concerning the day our savior was to be raised from the dead, Matthew 17:22-23; 16:21; 20: │ │

│ 18-19; Mark 9:31; 10:32-34; Luke 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; │ │

│ 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 all make mention that he will rise from the dead on, “the third day.” │ │

│ Is Saturday “the third day” from Wednesday? │ │

│ │ │

│Some might consider Saturday as being “the third day” from Wednesday, but │ │

│IF our Savior was in the sepulcher a FULL three days and three nights then │ │

│his resurrection wouldn’t have been on, “the third day.” The third day is past. │ │

│ │ │

│ In reference to “the third day” it is reveled in Luke 24:21 that, “TO DAY is the third day.” │ │

│ The day that this verse of Scripture is referring to is not Saturday, Luke 24:21 is a reference to, │ │

│ “the first day of the week” (vv. 1,13). Is Saturday “the first day of the week?” NO!!! │ │

Although something can be charted out to give it the appearance that it is in accordance to something that

has been stated but pictures do not always draw true conclusions. The problem with the above picture is:

the day that is assigned as being the day our savior was put to death does not all together fall in line with

Scripture. Although it may appear that some Scriptures support Wednesday as being the day our savior was

put to death some feel that there are some Scriptures that support Friday as being the day our savior was put

to death, and charts and grafts can be drawn up in support of that theory too in order to make it seem as

though what they are stating has credence. Nevertheless, there are other Scriptures that prove both

scenarios to be false and those Scriptures cannot be ignored, unless sound doctrine is of no importance.

In order for a Wednesday or a Friday impalement to be doctrinally sound there can’t be other Scriptures

contradicting such as being the case. And because there are no Scriptures that specifically say he died on a,

Wednesday, or a Friday, we have to rely on other Scriptures that do give specific days, and dates, in order

to rightfully conclude on what day our savior really did die. So, are there any Scriptures that give a specific

day or date in relation to the day our savior was put to death or resurrected? Of course, the answer is, yes.

As already noted in the above chart Luke 24 is one place that gives a specific day as to what timeframe

those verses of Scripture are referring to in connection with the death and resurrection of our savior. So it is

important not to ignore what we are told in Luke 24 concerning the timeline of those events. And it can

clearly be established that the day Luke 24 is referring to is, “the first day of the week” (v. 1), and that

verse 13 is speaking of, “that same day,” thus, the reference in verse 21 being, “to day,” also is a reference

to, “the first day of the week.”

Because Luke 24:21 is a reference to, “the first day of the week” (vv. 1, 13) and because “the first day of

the week is “the third day since these things were done” (“these things” being a reference to what we are

told in verse 20, “how the chief priests and… rulers delivered him to be condemned to death”) Saturday

would be the second day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be condemned to death.

And because Saturday would be the second day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be

condemned to death Friday would be the first day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to

be condemned to death. And because Friday would be the first day since the chief priests and rulers

delivered our savior to be condemned to death Thursday would be the day the chief priests and rulers

delivered our savior to be condemned to death.

Now, although some Scriptures might seem as though they are a reference to our savior being sacrificed on

a Wednesday or a Friday, could they actually be a reference to a Thursday? How about the other Scriptures

that don’t fit the scenario that our savior died on a Wednesday or a Friday, do they all fit the scenario that

our savior died on a Thursday? Of course the answer to both of these questions is, yes.

A 72-Hour Period Of Time

Another theory that is read into the Scriptures is: because Matthew 12:40 reads, “For as Jonas was three

days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the

heart of the earth,” it is reasoned that this verse of Scripture can only be a reference to a 72-hour period of

time, that the days mentioned in this verse of Scripture cannot be divided up into parts of days, and that

each daytime portion of the prophecy must consist of at least 12 hours because of what we are told in John

11:9. Was our savior laid in the sepulcher just as the sun was setting on one day and at the beginning of

another? If not, there is a problem with the 12 hours in each day (72 hrs.) theory.

Luke 23:50-54 reads, “And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man,

and a just: 51

(The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city

of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of Yahweh. 52

This man went unto Pilate, and begged

the body of Yahushua. 53

And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was

hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. 54

And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath

drew on.”

From the above quoted verses of Scripture found in Luke 23 it is clear that our savior was NOT “laid… in

a sepulcher” at the precise moment when the day had ended while another began. Of the day when our

savior was “laid… in a sepulcher… that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.” Clearly our

savior was laid in the sepulcher before the close of the day and the beginning of another one. Therefore, in

order to get a complete 72-hour period of time parts of days would have to be used:

Part of Wednesday is used for a part of one day. 1 Hour?

The night portion of Thursday is the first complete night. 12 Hours

The day portion of Thursday is the first complete day. 12 Hours

The night portion of Friday is the second complete night. 12 Hours

The day portion of Friday is the second complete day. 12 Hours

The night portion of Saturday is the third complete night. 12 Hours

And in order to get a third complete day a part of the day portion of Saturday is used. 11 Hours?

Please note that by using this method of calculation that it would be impossible to calculate a 12 hour

period of time for each day used because by doing so it would add up to be more than a 72-hour period of

time, plus it would include FOUR different days in the calculation: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and

Saturday. However, Scripture only makes mention of three days being used (Mt. 12:40). This is clear

evidence that something is wrong with such a calculation.

A Sabbath Resurrection

Another thing to note that goes against the instructions given in Scripture is that those who try to make it

out as though our savior was put in the sepulcher precisely at the going down of the sun on Wednesday, is

that they do not include any part of that day into their calculation, that scenario turns out to be three nights

and three days, which is backwards from the Scriptural, “three days and three nights” (Mt. 12:40). Hence,

the last part of the day when our savior was first placed into the sepulcher MUST be calculated as being the

first day our savior was in the tomb, because for those who teach the 72-hour theory, if no part of

Wednesday is used then the possibility of our savior being resurrected at the end of the Sabbath

vanishes. It vanishes because the 72-hour theory from Wednesday at sunset would have to include that

whole Sabbath, which ends at sunset.

Proclaiming that our savior was placed into the sepulcher precisely at sunset not only goes against the clear

teaching of Scripture, that the day had not yet ended precisely when he was placed into the sepulcher (Lk.

23:54), but it goes against their teaching that Mary’s first visit to the tomb was before the Sabbath had

ended, yet he was already gone (Mt. 28:1 KJV). Clearly, if sunset on Wednesday excludes Wednesday then

sunset on the Sabbath excludes the Sabbath. Otherwise, the 72-hour theory is incomplete.

For those who teach the 72-hour theory the only way that the Sabbath could be considered as being the day

our savior was resurrected would be if part of Wednesday is included because if all of Wednesday is

excluded, in order to get a complete 72 hours and an exact three days and three nights, all of the Sabbath

would have to be included, but then the resurrection would have taken place on Sunday, which would then

have FOUR nights included in the calculation of a three night prophecy: Thursday night, Friday night,

Saturday night; Sunday night resurrection. However, if any part of Wednesday is included for the 72-hour

theory and to make a Sabbath resurrection fit then, as noted above, FOUR days are used to make up the

daytime portion of the three day prophecy: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Clearly the

picture drawn from this conclusion does not fall in line with Scripture.

According to Scripture (Mt. 12:40) and according to recorded events given in Scripture (Lk. 23:50-54) our

savior’s entrance into the sepulcher was on the day portion, but his departure from the sepulcher is to be

calculated as being in the night (Mt. 12:40). However, most who insist he died on a Wednesday say he

rose from the sepulcher late in the day on Saturday rather than in the night portion of Sunday from a miss-

rendering of Matthew 28:1, usually taken from the King James Version of the Scriptures (compare it to

other translations), and a misapplication of John 11:9. This is one more reason why the Wednesday

impalement scenario does not coincide with Scripture.

Four Days & Four Nights

Again, please note that Scripture says our savior will only be in the sepulcher, “three days and three nights”

(Mt. 12:40). So, even more problems are created for them who believe in the 72-hour theory and teach that

our savior was put into the sepulcher anytime on Wednesday than just the usage of four days being used in

order to create a complete 72-hour scenario, because, according to Scripture, he was to remained in the

sepulcher until the nighttime portion of the day (Mt. 12:40) and Sunday night would have to be that night.

But from the last moment of the daytime portion on Wednesday to the first nighttime portion of the day on

Sunday exceeds their 72-hour theory.

Placed in the tomb just before the close of Wednesday. One day

The night of Thursday is the first complete night. One night 12 Hours

The day of Thursday is the first complete day. Two days 12 Hours

The night of Friday is the second complete night. Two nights 12 Hours 72-Hrs.

The day of Friday is the second complete day. Three days 12 Hours Plus

Resurrected at first nightfall on Sunday. Four nights

ANY amount of time spent in the sepulcher being before or after the complete three-day theory,

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, exceeds the 72-hour theory, and more than three days or three nights

would be used. Truthfully speaking, a 72-hour period of time, or an exact three-day period of time for the

three days and three nights, is read into the Scriptures. By trying to create a 72-hour or an exact three-day

period of time for the three days and three nights causes too many things to fall out of sync with Scripture,

such as:

#1 An exact three day, or 72-hour period of time, does not comply with Scripture that says the time period

our savior was first in the sepulcher was in the daytime portion while the time period last in the

sepulcher was in the nighttime portion (Mt. 12:40).

#2 Some have him first entering into the sepulcher in the daytime portion of Wednesday but say his

resurrection was on the daytime portion of that following Sabbath. That would make his stay in the

sepulcher 72 hours, but parts of four days and three nights are used and the time he last spent in the

sepulcher wouldn’t have been in the nighttime as prophesied. (Mt. 12:40)

#3 Some have him first entering into the sepulcher just as Wednesday ends but say his resurrection was on

the day portion of the Sabbath. That would make his stay in the sepulcher less than 72 hours and the

order of his time spent in the sepulcher would be three nights and three days instead of three days and

three nights as prophesied. (Mt. 12:40)

Nevertheless, it was clearly in the daytime when our savior was first in the sepulcher (Lk. 23:54),

which matches Scripture telling us that is when he will first be in the sepulcher (Mt. 12:40), but a 72-

hour theory from that point in time leaves no room for him remaining in the sepulcher until the

nighttime portion of the day as prophesied. (Mt. 12:40)

#4 A 72-hour theory leaves no room for him being resurrected within that 72-hour period of time as

prophesied (Mt 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21). Scripture states he will be

resurrected on the third day (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-

32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4) but the 72-hour theory has him in the

sepulcher during the whole three-day and three night period of time. How can that be possible when

he was to be resurrected on the third day? It’s not! Clearly, an exact three-day or 72-hour period of

time of our savior being in the sepulcher is not in compliance with Scripture.

Chapter 2 A Thursday Impalement Is Verified

In Various Ways

Luke 24

As already noted Luke 24 is one place that gives a specific day as to what timeframe those verses of

Scripture are referring. So it is important not to ignore what we are told in Luke 24 concerning the timeline

of those mentioned events. It is clearly established that the timeline of Luke 24 is, “the first day of the

week” (v. 1), and that verse 13 is speaking of, “that same day,” thus, the reference in verse 21 being, “to

day,” also is a reference to, “the first day of the week.”

Because the timeline of Luke 24:21 is a reference to, “the first day of the week,” and because “the first day

of the week is “the third day since these things were done” (“these things” being a reference to what we are

told in verse 20, “how the chief priests and… rulers delivered him to be condemned to death”), Saturday

would be the second day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be condemned to death.

And because Saturday would be the second day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be

condemned to death, Friday would be the first day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to

be condemned to death. And because Friday would be the first day since the chief priests and rulers

delivered our savior to be condemned to death, Thursday would be the day the chief priests and rulers

delivered our savior to be condemned to death.

Thursday was the day our savior was condemned to death.

Friday was the first day since our savior was condemned to death.

Saturday was the second day since our savior was condemned to death.

The first day of the week was the third day since our savior was condemned to death. (Lk. 24:19-21)

This is clear evidence that our savior didn’t die on a Wednesday, or on a Friday.

Luke 23

Although it is not understood by many that there were multiple events taking place at the same time during

the last days of our savior’s life as a mortal man here on earth: the weekly and annual Sabbaths and the

Passover kept by one group on the 14th and another Passover being kept on the 15th by another group, but

even more activity was going on than that.

There was not only more than one Passover being kept, and there was not only more than one Sabbath

being observed, being the annual Sabbath as well as the weekly Sabbath, but there was more than one

annual Sabbath being observed too. There was a Scriptural annual Sabbath being kept in addition to a

traditional one and then there was the weekly Sabbath too, and all of those Sabbaths were being kept

consecutively, one right after the other, each on a different day of the week. There really was quite a

commotion going in those days.

Clearly the 14th was the first Scriptural annual Sabbath being observed, being Passover day and the first

day of unleavened bread (Ex. 12:16-18; Dt. 16:4), but the Pharisees traditionally kept the 15th as the first

day of unleavened bread and Passover day. Please note that the disciples and our savior ate the Passover on

the night previous to our savior being on trial (Mt. 26:18-19; Mk. 14:13-16; Lk. 22:8-13, 15). This was on

the 14th and this day is described as being, the first day of unleavened bread (Mt. 26:17; Mk. 14:12; Lk.

22:7), which is in accordance to Exodus 12:18 and Deuteronomy 16:4, while there were many others who

were yet to eat the Passover on the following day. (Jn. 18:28)

Just like there were two Passovers being observed: one on Thursday, the 14th, and one on Friday the 15th,

these two days were both observed as annual Sabbaths in addition to the weekly Sabbath. Nevertheless, the

three days and three nights that our savior spent in the sepulcher which is spoken of in Matthew 12:40 can

be identified in Luke’s account.

Luke 23:50-54 reads, “And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man,

and a just: 51

(The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city

of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of Yahweh. 52

This man went unto Pilate, and begged

the body of Yahushua. 53

And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was

hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. 54

And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath

drew on.” (For those who believe the preparation day being spoken of is Friday see Appendix 2, p 59)

Clearly the day being referred to in the above verses of Scripture is the 14th, and the reference to the

Sabbath is a reference to the 15th Passover, being the first day many traditionally ate unleavened bread.

However, the way that the remaining Scriptures are laid out in Luke 23 demonstrate that the three days our

savior spent in the sepulcher were, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the three nights our savior spent in

the sepulcher were, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night. Hence, Scripture says he will be in the

sepulcher three days and three nights. (Mt. 12:40)

Because the prophecy of the three days and three nights lists the daytime portion of the prophecy first (Mt.

12:40), each daytime portion of the prophecy will be on a different day of the week than each

nighttime portion of the prophecy. Hence, the first daytime portion of the prophecy will be on one day of

the week while the first nighttime portion of the prophecy will be on the next day of the week, which will

be a division of two days, not just one. Thus, because the prophecy does not begin at the beginning of a

day, being the nighttime portion of the day, in order to comply with the prophecy of the three days and

three nights the three days and three nights will fall within four different days:

The three days and three nights within four different days

Whereas in a Scriptural day the night precedes the day (Gen. 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31; Ex. 12:18; Lev. 23:32,

and Ex. 12:6, 8, 10; Ex. 16:2-3, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13; Dt. 16:4, 6, 7 all show the day and its order), and the

prophecy concerning the three days and three nights begins with the day (Mt. 12:40; Lk. 23:54), each

daytime portion of the prophecy will be on one day of the week while each nighttime portion of the

prophecy will be on the next day. Nevertheless, there are only three days used to identify the daytime

portions of the prophecy and there are only three nights used to identify the nighttime portions of the

prophecy. And the three days and three nights that our savior was in the sepulcher are given in sequence in

Luke 23:55- 24:1.

Luke 23:55-56 reads, “And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld

the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. 56

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and

rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.”

Clearly our savior was laid in the sepulcher late in the day on the 14th (Luke 23:55), so when they returned

and prepared spices and ointments (v. 56) it would have become the 15th because the 14th would have

come to a close before they had time to get anywhere to do anything. So the scenario that the spices and

ointments were prepared at the end of the 14th and that the Sabbath mentioned that they rested on was the

annual Sabbath on the 15th in addition to the weekly Sabbath back to back doesn’t fit. However, what does

fit is:

Thursday the 14th was when they beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid Luke 23:55

Friday the 15th, when they prepared spices and ointments, was not a Scriptural Sabbath Luke 23:56A

Saturday the 16th was when they rested according to the commandment Luke 23:56B

The first day of the week was when they came back unto the sepulcher, the 17th Luke 24:1

Charting Out The Three Days & Three Nights

As already noted, in the prophecy of the three days and three nights because the daytime portion of the

prophecy precedes the nighttime portion of the prophecy (Mt. 12:40), each daytime portion of the prophecy

will be on a different day of the week than the nighttime portion of the prophecy. This is the case because

of the order of the Scriptural day. In the order of the Scriptural day the night precedes the day (Gen. 1:5, 8,

13, 19, 23, 31; Ex. 12:18; Lev. 23:32, and Ex. 12:6, 8, 10; Ex. 16:2-3, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13; Dt. 16:4, 6, 7 all show

the day and its order), therefore, because it was the daytime portion of the day when our savior was first

laid in the sepulcher, which was near to that day’s end, the first nighttime portion of the day when he was in

the sepulcher was on the next day, which was the next day’s beginning. Thus, of the three days and three

nights when our savior was in the sepulcher each daytime portion of prophecy was on one day while

each nighttime portion of the prophecy was on the following day, and the three days and three nights fell

within a portion of four different days.

If Wednesday were the first day when our savior was laid in the sepulcher then, Wednesday, day 1

Thursday night would have been the first night.

Thursday, day 2

Then, the daytime portion of Thursday would have been the second day while,

Friday night would have been the second night.

Friday, day 3

Then, the daytime portion of Friday would have been the third day while,

Saturday night would have been the third night.

Saturday, day 4

Resurrection on Saturday afternoon? A FOURTH DAY?????

Resurrection on Sunday night? A FOURTH NIGHT???? Sunday, day 5

Please note that with the theory that our savior was condemned to be put to death on a Wednesday that

being in the sepulcher until near the end of the Sabbath would create a fourth daytime period of time of

our savior being in the sepulcher which would then involve four days and three nights, and being in the

sepulcher until Sunday night would create a fourth nighttime period of time which would involve four days

and four nights, but Scripture only speaks of three days and three nights (Mt. 12:40). Thus, the theory that

our savior was impaled on a Wednesday DOES NOT COINCIDE WITH SCRIPTURE.

Because the prophecy in Matthew 12:40 shows us that the prophecy is to begin during the daytime portion

of the day, which is evident from him being put in the sepulcher during the daytime portion of the day (Lk.

23:53-54), and because there are only to be three days and three nights, THE NIGHTTIME PORTION

OF THE DAY WOULD BE THE PORTION OF THE DAY WHEN OUR SAVIOR WAS

RESURRECTED. Thus, being put into the sepulcher on a Wednesday afternoon and being resurrected

on a Sabbath afternoon DOES NOT COINCIDE WITH SCRIPTURE because the resurrection

wouldn’t have taken place in the night. Furthermore, being put in the sepulcher on a Wednesday and

remaining there until the afternoon on the Sabbath includes the usage of four different days for the daytime

portion of the prophecy and three complete nights, but the prophecy doesn’t read, four days and three

nights, it reads, THREE DAYS and three nights. (Mt. 12:40)

Clearly, it doesn’t coincide with Scripture that he was first put into the sepulcher on late Wednesday while

being resurrected on Sunday’s first nightfall. With such reasoning, from late Wednesday to the first night

fall on Sunday, a total of four days and four nights would be included in the overall calculation. However,

the prophecy reads, three days and three nights. (Mt. 12:40)

Some will go on to say that our savior was first put into the sepulcher at the close of Wednesday, which

would have been the beginning of Thursday and would exclude the day portion of Wednesday, which

would go against the prophecy which lists the daytime portion as being first when our savior was put into

the sepulcher (Mt. 12:40), but they go on to say he was resurrected on the afternoon of the Sabbath,

which would only be three complete nights and nearly three complete days, but also would go against the

prophecy that lists the nighttime portion of the day when he was to be resurrected (Mt. 12:40):

If Wednesday night (Scripturally being the beginning of Thursday) were the first Thursday

night then the first night and day would be Thursday, one complete night and day, 1 complete night

but the prophecy reads, day and night (Mt. 12:40), not night and day. 1 complete day

Then the second night and day would be, Friday Friday

but the prophecy reads, day and night (Mt. 12:40), not night and day. 2nd complete night

but the prophecy reads, day and night (Mt. 12:40), not night and day. 3rd complete night

Clearly this scenario does not comply with the complete 3 day theory (72 hrs.) as many suggest it does. If

the Messiah was resurrected late in the day on the Sabbath then the 72 hour theory wouldn’t have been

complete, but if the Messiah was resurrected after the completion of the Sabbath then the 72 hours would

have been exceeded, and when trying to include Wednesday into the calculation in order to make the 72

hour theory fit for a Sabbath resurrection there are 4 days used to make up the 3 day portion of the

prophecy with three nights. The fact of the matter is, nowhere does Scripture state that the days are to be

complete, in fact, from the prophecy beginning with the day portion of the day [Mt. 12:40] Scripture

indicates that the days will not be complete. Furthermore, Scripture reads, “three days and three nights”

(Mt. 12:40), rather than, three nights and three days.

Or they might reason that he was first put into the sepulcher at the close of Wednesday, which would have

been the beginning of Thursday, and was resurrected at first nightfall on Sunday, but that reasoning doesn’t

coincide with Scripture either because then a fourth night is used in the overall calculation when the

prophecy reads, three days and three nights. (Mt. 12:40)

If Wednesday night (Scripturally being the beginning of Thursday) were the first Thursday

night then the first night and day would be Thursday, one complete night and day, 1 complete night

but the prophecy reads, day and night (Mt. 12:40), not night and day. 1 complete day

Clearly this scenario exceeds the prophecy of 3 nights (Mt. 12:40), nor does it comply with the complete 3

day theory (72 hrs.) as suggested by many, nor does it comply with Scripture which reads, “three days and

three nights” (Mt. 12:40), rather than, three nights and three days. Nowhere does Scripture state that the

days are to be complete. In fact, Scripture indicates that the days will be incomplete from the prophecy

The only scenario that completely coincides with Scripture is the one that only uses three days and three

nights in the overall calculation for the three day and three night prophecy, that he was first placed into the

sepulcher late on Thursday afternoon and was resurrected sometime during the night of the first day of the

week, being gone already before sunrise on that day (Jn. 20:1). Thus, the three days and three nights that

Matthew 12:40 speaks of are as follows:

Our savior was first laid in the sepulcher on the daytime portion of Thursday, Thursday day

making Thursday the first day our savior was in the sepulcher 1st day

Then, the nighttime portion of Friday would have been Friday night

the first night our savior was in the sepulcher 1st night

Clearly this complies with there only being three days and three nights and it complies with the prophecy

that lists the daytime portion as being first when our savior was to be in the sepulcher and being resurrected

in the nighttime portion of the day (Mt. 12:40). Nowhere does Scripture state that the days are to be

complete. In fact, Scripture indicates that the days will be incomplete from the prophecy beginning with the

day portion of the day (Mt. 12:40). A complete day in Scripture begins with the night, not the day. (Gen.

1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31; Ex. 12:18; Lev. 23:32, and Ex. 12:6, 8, 10; Ex. 16:2-3, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13; Dt. 16:4, 6, 7

John 12

In John 12:13 the account is given where many have assigned Sunday as being the day when our savior

separated himself as the sacrificial lamb without spot or blemish to be sacrificed (Ex. 12:5; Jn. 1:29, 36;

1Cor. 5:7; Heb. 9:14; 1Pet. 1:18, 19). This day is identified as being, Palm Sunday. Is it true that this event

happened on a Sunday? Some insist that it occurred on a Sabbath. Others evidently believe it took place on

a Monday. I think I heard one person trying to explain that it happened on a Tuesday. However, it will be

demonstrated through Scripture that this event not only took place on a Sunday but that the date of this

event was Abib 10, which puts the 14th of Abib, the day our savior was sacrificed, on a Thursday.

Beginning with the first verse of John chapter 12, it reads:

1 Then Yahushua six days before the passover (Abib 8) came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had

been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2 There they made him a supper; (Abib 9) and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the

table with him. 3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Yahushua, and

wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. 4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,

5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what

was put therein. 7 Then said Yahushua, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.

8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Yahushua's sake only,

but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. 10

But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; 11

Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Yahushua. 12

On the next day (Abib 10) much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Yahushua was

coming to Jerusalem, 13

Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of

Israel that cometh in the name of Yahweh. 14

And Yahushua, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15

Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

From the use of the above quoted verses of Scripture we can begin to draw out a timeline. In order to begin

charting out a timeline we can see that in verse 1 of John 12 it is, “six days before the passover.” Therefore,

the date to begin with would be Abib 8 because Passover begins on Abib 14 (Ex. 12:6; Lev. 23:5; Num.

9:2-3, 5; 28:16; Josh. 5:10; 2Chr. 35:1; Ezra 6:19; Eze. 45:21):

So then, we have a definite date to begin with for a timeline from what we are told in John 12:1, Abib 8,

because with Passover being on the 14th (Ex. 12:6; Lev. 23:5; Num. 9:2-3, 5; 28:16; Josh. 5:10; 2Chr. 35:1;

Ezra 6:19; Eze. 45:21), “six days before the passover” would be, Abib 8. And for those who are unfamiliar

with Scriptural time (Dan 7:25), our savior didn’t die in the third or fourth month of the calander year. Abib

is the beginning of months (Ex. 12:2; Lev. 23:5; 2Chr. 35:1; Eze. 45:21). Abib, the first Scriptural month,

always falls within March or April of the Gegorian calander. Hence, the date for Easter seemilnly fluxuates

but is actually most often accurately within the first Scriptural month. It is actually the manmade calander

that is fluxuating, not the heavenly one.

Nevertheless, what was in representation of what was taking place in John 12:12-13 coincides with what

was to be done with the Passover lamb. Not only was Yahushua fulfilling the prophecy that is written in

Zechariah 9:9 in verses 14-15 of John 12, but also he was fulfilling what was commanded concerning the

Passover lamb in accordance with Exodus 12:3. In Exodus 12:3 we read, “Speak ye unto all the

congregation of Israel, saying, ‘In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb,

according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for a house.’”

Aside from Yahushua fulfilling what was prophesied in Zechariah 9:9 Yahushua was at this same time

presenting himself as the Passover lamb (Jn. 1:29, 36; 1Cor. 5:7; Heb. 9:14; 1Pet. 1:18-19) in accordance to

Exodus 12:3, and this was to be done on Abib 10. Therefore, a date can also be ascribed to John 12:13,

Abib 10.

John 12:1 is without doubt speaking of a time that was six days before the Passover, and that day is without

question Abib 8, because Passover day is Abib 14 (Ex. 12:6; Lev. 23:5; Num. 9:2-3, 5; 28:16; Josh. 5:10;

2Chr. 35:1; Ezra 6:19; Eze. 45:21). However, a day is recorded in the second verse of John 12 that many do

not account for. It reads, “There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them

that sat at the table with him.”

With the insight that John 12:1 is speaking of a time which is six days before the Passover, making that day

out to be Abib 8, and with the insight that when suppertime came in verse two that another day needs to be

accounted for, because during that time of year by the time suppertime comes the sun has gone down and a

new day has begun, which would make this day out to be Abib 9, then the next day in sequence that is

recorded in verse 12 would be Abib 10. And with the understanding of what was taking place in John

12:13-15 we can continue to chart out a timeline with the use of these verses of Scripture:

With the understanding of what was to take place on Abib 10 (Ex. 12:3) and the understanding that

Yahushua fulfilled the symbolism of being our Passover lamb (Jn. 1:29, 36; 1Cor. 5:7; Heb. 9:14; 1Pet.

1:18-19), that not even a bone of him was broken (Jn. 19:36) that the Scripture should be fulfilled (Ex.

12:46; Num. 9:12; Ps. 34:20), then we understand that it was Abib 10 when he rode upon a colt into

Jerusalem that Palm Sunday.

Furthermore, with the understanding that days begin in the evening at sundown (Gen. 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31;

Ex. 12:18; Lev. 23:32), which at suppertime it is most often at the beginning of the day (especially when

the days are as short as they are at Passover time [Mt. 26:20-21, 31; Mk. 14:17-18, 27; Jn. 13:2, 30]), then

it is easy to understand that when suppertime came in verse two of John 12 then that would then become

five days before Passover (Abib 9) and the next day which is recorded in verse 13 of John 12 would be four

days before Passover (Abib 10). Therefore, what is left for scrutiny isn’t the date but whether or not the day

that is recorded in John 12:13 is, Sunday.

Considering that there are so many other beliefs that are taught in Christendom which are myths, are the

teachings about Palm Sunday myths as well? By taking a look at some parallel Scriptures it can be

established that Abib 10 did occur on a Sunday, thus, the teaching that what is recorded in John 12:12-15

took place on a Sunday isn’t a myth at all.

Chapter 3 Parallel Scriptures Line Up The Day

With The Date

A specific date is established in John 12. Thus, the other verses of Scripture must match what is specifically

stated rather than making Scripture match what is assumed:

John 12:1 is, Abib 8 (Passover is Abib 14, thus, 6 days before the Passover is Abib 8), a Friday.

John 12:2-11 is, Abib 9 (Supper then being served in the evening would began a new day), a Sabbath.

John 12:12-13 is, Abib 10 (a prophetic fulfillment of Ex. 12:3), this day is known as being, Palm Sunday.

beginning and its end. Previous to the above listed verses of Scripture John 12 lists three days in sequence.

In John 12:1 it is revealed that it is six days before the Passover (Abib 8), and then when suppertime came

in verse 2 of John 12 it would have been the beginning of a new day, Abib 9. The third day that follows in

sequence is found in John 12:12, which reads, “the next day.” This day is given in sequence to the two

previous days and therefore would be, Abib 10. Thus, the parallel Scriptures to John 12:12-19 (Mt.

From Mark 12:1 to 13:37 Yahushua is discussing things with his disciples and teaching in parables, which

likely all took place before noontime on Abib 12, but in Mark 14:1 we are given another definite

reference to a timeline, which confirms that the date is still, Abib 12.

In reference to the 15th of Abib, the day the nation of Israel traditionally keeps Passover and keeps it as a

high-day Sabbath; being the first day of seven when they eat unleavened bread (Ex. 12:16), Mark 14:1

reads, “After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the

scribes sought how they might take him (Yahushua) by craft, and put him to death. 2 But they said, Not on

the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.”

Clearly this is still a reference to the 12th of Abib, because after two days, the 13th and 14th, would be

what they consider to be, “the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread,” which they observed on the

15th. This is what was being spoken of by the chief priests and the scribes who sought how they might take

our savior by craft, and put him to death, “But they said, Not on the feast day.” Thus, Yahushua was taken

on 14th, which was a day prior to what they consider as being “the feast of the passover” and high-day

Sabbath of unleavened bread.

Although Matthew and Luke do not go into detail as Mark (Mk. 11:19 thru 13:37) does concerning all that

took place on Abib 12 Matthew 26:1-13, Mark 14:1-9, and Luke 22:1-2 all parallel each other, being Abib

12th, two days after which would be the day that the chief priests and the scribes consider being, “the feast

of the passover, and of unleavened bread,” which is on the 15th of Abib. Thus, even more Scriptures can be

Also note that the meal in the above listed verses of Scripture was likely eaten around midday on Abib 12

rather than being a supper, which would have been the beginning of Abib 13 if it were a supper. The meal

that is recorded in John 13 was eaten at suppertime (v. 2) and does not parallel the meal in the above quoted

verses of Scripture. When suppertime came around the 13th of Abib began, which is what is recorded in

John 13.

Wednesday, Abib 13

Although many assume that the supper which is recorded in John 13 was the Passover meal our savior

partook of on the 14th, which is recorded in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, and Luke 22:7-38, but the

supper in John 13 is recorded as being, “before the feast of the Passover” (Jn. 13:1). From the

understanding that one meal was the Passover meal (Mt. 26:19; Mk. 14:16; Lk. 22:13-14) while the other

meal was “before the feast of the Passover” (Jn. 13:1-2), and from understanding when it was that Satan

entered into Judas to betray our savior, it becomes even more evident that the supper which is recorded in

John 13 is NOT the same meal that is recorded in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, and Luke 22:7-38,

which was the Passover meal.

Because it was during the meal that is recorded in John 13 when Satan had put it into the heart of Judas

Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray our savior (V. 2) is evidence that it is not the same meal that is recorded in

Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, and Luke 22:7-38, because we see that Satan had already put it into the

heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray our savior in Matthew 26:14-16, Mark 14:10-11, and Luke

22:3-6, which is before the meal that is recorded in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, and Luke 22:7-38.

In John 13:27 it is recorded, “And AFTER the sop Satan entered into him (Judas),” but Matthew, Mark and

Luke records that the time when Satan entered into Judas to betray or savior was PRIOR to the supper

recorded in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, and Luke 22:7-38. This is more evidence that the supper

which is recorded in John 13 is not the same supper that is recorded in Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26,

and Luke 22:7-38. For a more detailed look at the two suppers in comparison please see Appendix 4, pages

62-69. All accounts agree, when Satan entered into Judas to betray our savior it WASN’T at the

Passover meal which took place on the 14th of Abib:

verses of Scripture happened on either the 12th or the 13th of Abib. And from what we are told in John

13, of that meal being a supper (v. 2), and that it was, “before the feast of the Passover” (v. 1), it is also

evident that the day when Satan entered into Judas to betray our savior was on the 13th of Abib, because

suppertime is when a new day often begins. Plus we see in verse 30 of John 13 that, “it was night.”

Clearly it wasn’t in the evening of the 12th when Satan entered into Judas because the evening of the 12th

is recorded back in Mark 11:19, and clearly it was before the Passover meal on the 14th when Satan entered

into Judas, which is recorded in Matthew 26:20-30, Mark 14:17-26 and Luke 22:14-39, so the only time

that is left that isn’t recorded with a specific day or date is, Abib 13.

Because the record in John 13 records that Satan entered into Judas, “after the sop” (v. 27), and that, “it was

night” (v. 30), it is evident that this occurrence took place at the beginning of a day and Matthew 26:14-16,

Mark 14:10-11, and Luke 22:3-6 all are a record of it being the 13th, because from those verses of Scripture

it is clear that the evening of the 12th day is past (the evening of the 12th is recorded back in Mk. 11:19)

and the next evening, or nightfall, which is recorded in John 13 would have been on the 13th.

Evidence that the meal that is recorded in John 13 occurred on the 13th is from knowing that that meal was

eaten sometime after the 12th day of Abib is mentioned in Scripture (Mt. 26:1-13; Mk. 11:19-14:9; Lk.

22:1-2) and that it was eaten sometime before the supper was eaten on the 14th, which is recorded in

Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-26, and Luke 22:7-38. Listed below are the parallel Scriptures of Satan

In the 13th chapter of John it is recorded that the supper they were partaking of was “before the feast of the

passover” (v. 1). However, of the supper that is mentioned in the accounts of Matthew 26, Mark 14, and

Luke 22, it is recorded as being the Passover. The parallel Scriptures that show the preparation of the

Although some will argue that the supper John records in the 13th chapter is the same meal that is recorded

in Matthew 26:20-30, Mark 14:17-26 and Luke 22:14-39 doesn’t change the fact that the meal that is

recorder in Matthew 26:20-30, Mark 14:17-26 and Luke 22:14-39 is on the 14th of Abib, nor does it

The Arrest, Trial, & Burial: Thursday, Abib 14

Abib 13 ends and Abib 14 begins in Matthew 26:17-19, Mark 14:12-16 and Luke 22:7-13. After the

Passover meal that night (Mt. 26:20-30; Mk. 14:17-26; Lk. 22:14-39) Yahushua goes out to pray and is

arrested. He stands trial and is killed before the setting of the sun of that day, Thursday, Abib 14. His

prayers, arrest, trial and death are recorded in Matthew 26:30- 27:50, Mark 14:26- 15:37, Luke 22:39-

23:46, and John 18:1- 19:30. All of these verses of Scripture are parallel to each other and occurred on the

Please note that in Luke’s account they are returning from beholding the sepulcher, and how Yahushua’s

body was laid (Lk. 23:55), which was at the very end of Thursday, Abib 14. Thus, because there wasn’t

any time left on the 14th to get anything done the spices and ointments were prepared on the 15th,

which was the same day the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate asking that the sepulcher

be made sure until the third day. Then, on Saturday, Abib 16, they rested according to commandment

concerning the weekly Sabbath. Now the chart can be filled in with even more Scriptures to continue with a

timeline, which extends it to Abib 16:

In the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John there are many Scriptures that parallel each other.

However, none of the accounts lists each day in sequence. Therefore, in order to list each day in sequence

for a timeline a thread has to be weaved from one book to another. This can be successfully accomplished

when a day or date is established in one account and from that account days or dates can be ascribed to

another account when Scriptures are found to parallel.

Please note in the previous chart that it begins with John 12:1. Out of the four evangels it is my estimation

that in the year when our savior died the account of John is the only account that records this point in time,

“six days before the Passover.” And in the account of John he lists some days in sequence. Thus, a date can

be given to each of those days. And because there is another account that records some of the same

information as John’s account, being established as being the same point in time as one of the days that has

been identified in John’s account, a day or date can be given to those verses of Scripture too. Such is the

case when it comes to the 12th verse of Scripture in John 12. Matthew 21:8-17, Mark 11:7-11, and Luke

19:33-46 all record the same point in time as is recorded in John 12:12, and because days or dates can be

established in John’s account days or dates can be established in all of the other evangels too when they all

parallel each other.

Although John’s account is the only account that records, “six days before the passover,” there are other

accounts that record what has become known as Palm Sunday, and through John’s account, that day has

been established to be four days before Passover, or Abib 10. Thus, a date can be given to the other

accounts that record the same point in time. And, although John’s account does not go on to list the next

day in sequence, Abib 11, some of the other accounts do. Thus, days or dates can be given to those verses

of Scripture too, and so on. Thus, the thread is weaved. (See previous chart for the parallel Scriptures that

enable us to list the days in sequence)

In John’s account, chapter 12, it starts out with a definite date, “six days before the passover,” which would

be Abib 8, and there are two more days given in sequence, which would be: Abib 9 and 10 (Jn. 12:1-19).

But John’s account does not go on to list the next day in sequence. However, Abib 10 is recorded in all four

of the evangels (Mt. 21:8-17; Mk. 11:7-11; Lk. 19:33-46, Jn. 12:12-19). And just like John’s evangel did

not continue to list each day in sequence not all of the other evangels go on to list the days that follow in

sequence either, but Mark’s account does. Mark’s account goes on to list four more days in sequence: Abib

11, 12, 13, and 14 (Mk. 11:11-15:47). Abib 14 is another day that is recorded in each evangel (Mt. 26:17-

27:61; Mk. 14:12-15:47; Lk. 22:7-23:55; Jn. 19:30-42). But again, not every account goes on to list the

next day in sequence, but Luke’s account does, and the thread is weaved into another book. Luke goes on

to list three more days in sequence: Abib 15, 16, and 17 (Lk. 23:56-24:1), and each evangel records

something concerning Abib 17, which is clearly identified as being, the first day of the week:

Our knowledge that Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:1, Luke 24:1 and John 20:1 are all references to the first

day of the week, GIVES US THE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK ALL THE

OTHER DATES ARE THAT PRECED THAT DAY IN SEQUENCE. Thus:

Because Abib 17 was the first day of the week Abib 16 would have been a weekly Sabbath.

Because Abib 16 was a weekly Sabbath Abib 15 would have been a Friday.

Because Abib 15 was a Friday Abib 14 would have been a Thursday.

Scripture lists each and every one of the above listed days in sequence; there are no gaps. And from

following each day in sequence the conclusion is that the day our savior died on is, Thursday, Abib 14.

This is only one way that this conclusion is drawn and is a second witness to the information found in

Luke 24:21, that “to day,” being, “that same day” (v. 13), “the first day of the week” (v. 1), is the third day

since “the chief priests and… rulers delivered him (our savior) to be condemned to death” (v. 20).

With the knowledge that “the first day of the week” (v. 1) was “the third day since” (v. 21) “the chief

priests and… rulers delivered him (our savior) to be condemned to death” (v. 20), Saturday would have

been the second day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be condemned to death. Then

Friday would have been the first day since the chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be

condemned to death. And Thursday would have been the day the chief priests and rulers delivered our

savior to be condemned to death.

Furthermore, with the knowledge that “the first day of the week” (Lk. 24:1) was “the third day since” (Lk.

24:21) “the chief priests and… rulers delivered him (our savior) to be condemned to death” (Lk. 24:20),

gives us the interpretation of the days listed in the three day prophecy, that he was to be resurrected on “the

third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7,

45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4). This is Scripture interpreting Scripture (2Pet. 1:20). The day the

chief priests and rulers delivered our savior to be condemned to death was a Thursday. Friday was the first

day of the three day prophecy, Saturday was the second day of the three day prophecy, and Sunday was

“the third day” of the three day prophecy. (Lk. 24:1, 20-21)

Although some may use a few Scriptures to make it seem as though the day our savior died on was a

Wednesday or a Friday, but when all of the information is considered concerning his death and resurrection

it is evident that the day our savior died was on a Thursday. Is tradition or ignorance more important than

truth (Hos. 4:6; Mt. 15:9; Mk. 7:7-8; Jn. 4:23-24; 9:39-41; 14:6; 2Thess. 2:9-12; Heb. 10:26)? What other

reason would a person have to make them want to continue to say our savior died on a Wednesday or a

Friday other than being ignorant (not knowing the Scriptures, Hos. 4:6; Mt. 22:29; Mk. 12:24) or wanting

to hold to tradition (believing what trusted individuals say the Scriptures say, Mt. 15:14; 23:16; Lk. 6:39)?

Why would anyone want to remain ignorant or continue to teach something that is false? (Hos. 4:6; Acts

17:30; 2Thess. 2:9-12; Heb. 10:26)

A Passover Recorded On Both: The 14th & The 15th

John 12:1 starts out with an absolute date, “six days before the passover,” which is Abib 8. Although the

Passover that is referred to in Scripture at times is the traditional Passover that many keep on the 15th (Mt.

26:2; Mk. 14:1; Jn. 18:28), and at other times the reference is to the Scriptural Passover that we are

instructed to keep on the 14th (Ex. 12:6; Mt. 26:19; Mk. 14:16; Lk. 22:13), it is evident that the Passover

that is referred to in John 12:1 is the Scriptural Passover that was kept by our savior and his disciples on the

14th. The evidence that proves such is from tracing each day from the point in time found in John 12:1 up

to the next point of reference where another date can be established and so on, which establishes it as being

a reference to the Passover on the 14th. This is clearly illustrated in the diagram below under the next

header.

The point of reference to another date that can be established after the reference in John 12:1 is found in

Matthew 26:2 and Mark 14:1. In these two verses of Scripture the feast of the Passover is described as

being, “after two days.” The Passover that these verses of Scripture are referring to is the traditional

Passover that the nation of Israel keeps on the 15th. This is established to be the case because the above-

mentioned verses of Scripture found in Matthew and Mark are clearly a reference to the 12th of Abib.

Thus, after tracing each day in sequence there is no other possibility. This too is clearly illustrated in the

diagram below under the next header.

Six days from the point of time found in John 12:1 turns out to be Abib 14 while two days after the point in

time found in Matthew 26:1 and Mark 14:1 turns out to be Abib 15. Thus, Scripture not only makes a

reference to the Scriptural Passover on the 14th but Scripture makes a reference to the traditional

Passover that the nation of Israel keeps on the 15th.

Coincidence?

Could it just be a coincidence that these Scriptures seem to draw out a timeline from Abib 8 to Abib 17 in

sequence? I think not! Scripture leaves no room for speculation, that is, if it is not used out of context or if

some Scriptures are not ignored that deal with the subject.

Although many who believe our savior died on a Friday have their pet verses of Scripture that, to them,

give clear evidence that he died on a Friday, the same is true of the ones who believe our savior died on a

Wednesday. However when taking into consideration all of the prophecies that prophecy about our savior’s

death and resurrection, being: the “three days and three nights,” “the third day,” “in three days,” and “after

three days,” it becomes a puzzle that many do not care to fully investigate. So, they hold to their pet verses

of Scripture that seem to back their theories up. It is just so much easier to stick to a few pet verses of

scripture that seem to support the traditional theory that our savior died on either a Wednesday or a Friday

than to harmonize all of the Scriptures that deal with the subject. Nevertheless, I have taken the time to

peace this puzzle together.

Not only is it possible to trace each day in sequence, from Abib 8 to Abib 18, but the three days and three

nights that our savior spent in the sepulcher are found in Luke 23:53-24:1. Furthermore, it is revealed in

Luke 24:21 on what day of the week the prophesied third day was (Scripture interprets itself, 2Pet. 1:20), it

was the first day of the week (Lk. 24:1, 13). And from investigating what is being spoken of in Luke 24:13-

21 no other day can be pinpointed as being the day our savior was condemned to death other than

Thursday.

As already discussed in the second chapter of this study under the header, Luke 23, the three days and

three nights that our savior spent in the sepulcher are found in Luke 23:53-24:1. Luke 23:55-56 reads,

“And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and

how his body was laid. 56

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day

according to the commandment.”

Clearly our savior was laid in the sepulcher late on the 14th (Luke 23:55), so when they returned and

prepared spices and ointments (v. 56) it would have become the beginning of the 15th because the 14th

would have come to a close before they had time to get anywhere to do anything. So the scenario that the

spices and ointments were prepared at the end of the 14th and that the Sabbath mentioned that they rested

on was the annual Sabbath on the 15th doesn’t fit. However, what does fit is:

Thursday the 14th was when they beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid Luke 23:55

Friday the 15th, when they prepared spices and ointments, was not a Scriptural Sabbath Luke 23:56A

Saturday the 16th, the weekly Sabbath, and they rested according to the commandment Luke 23:56B

The first day of the week was when they came back unto the sepulcher, the 17th Luke 24:1

The 72 Hour Theory

After investigating the three days and three nights that our savior was to be in the sepulcher (Mt. 12:40) the

theory that he died on a Wednesday or a Friday just doesn’t fit. Clearly, it is impossible to get three days

and three nights from a Friday afternoon to before sunrise on Sunday, but to try to create an exact three day

period of time (72 hrs.) from late Wednesday afternoon to late Sabbath afternoon doesn’t fit Scripture

either because our savior was to be resurrected on the third day and because there are only to be 3 days

involved.

CLEARLY THE THEORY THAT OUR SAVIOR WAS IN THE SEPULCHER A FULL THREE DAYS

DOESN’T FIT SCRIPTURE BECAUSE THAT THEORY LEAVES NO ROOM FOR HIS

RESURRECTION TO TAKE PLACE ON “THE THIRD DAY” AS PROPHESIED (Mt. 17:22-23;

16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40;

1Cor. 15:3-4), nor does it leave room for his resurrection to take place “in three days” as prophesied. (Mt.

26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21)

PLEASE NOTE:

If the prophecy of the three days and three nights (Mt. 12:40) was intended to be a 72 hour period of time

then that prophecy would debunk the many other prophecies which state our savior was to be resurrected

on “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33;

24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4), that he was to be resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61;

27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21). Thus, the 72 hour theory is just that, a theory.

Clearly, the prophecy in Matthew 12:40 is not a reference to a 72 hour period of time. The 72 hour period

of time is improperly read into Matthew 12:40. It simply does not matter how a person lays out a 72 hour

diagram, that diagram will not allow for the resurrection to take place on the third day as prophesied in

Scripture. Some diagrams to consider are charted out on page 17.

Please, if you are able to explain how our savior was in the sepulcher a full 72 hours, and at the same time

explain how is was that he was resurrected on “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31;

10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4), that he was

resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21), I want to hear from

you. And, please, chart it out for me.

As I was talking with one person who was explaining to me how there was three days and three nights from

Friday afternoon to Sunday morning he was insistent that he was correct, until I asked him to chart it out

for me. So, please, if you are a person who believes our savior was in the sepulcher a full 72 hours, and at

the same time was somehow resurrected on “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31;

10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4), that he was

resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21), I want to hear from

you. And, please, chart it out for me. When charting it out I can’t make it fit (see p 17). Thus, the

conclusion I have come to is: the 72 hour theory is just that, a theory, and is improperly read into the

Scriptures. Nowhere does Scripture indicate that our savior was to be in the sepulcher for a full 72 hours.

For those who say our savior was first put in the sepulcher late in the afternoon on a Wednesday it doesn’t

matter what time of day you say he was placed in the sepulcher, 72 hours is 72 hours, AND LEAVES

ZERO TIME FOR OUR SAVIOR TO BE RESURRECTED ON “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21;

20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-

4), or to be resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21):

ANYTIME AFTER THIS TIME PERIOD GOES INTO DAY FOUR, but our savior was to be

resurrected on “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32;

18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4). He was to be resurrected, “in three days” (Mt.

26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21). Thus, it is clear to see that the 72 hour theory is

improperly read into the Scriptures. The 72 hour theory is not Scriptural.

So, to fully harmonize the prophecies of the three days, that he was to be laid to rest and remain in the heart

of the earth for “three days and three nights” (Mt. 12:40), that he was to be resurrected on “the third

day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46;

Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4), that he was to be resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk.

14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21), and that he was to be resurrected “After three days” (Mt. 27:62-64; Mk.

8:27-31), only one day can fit and it’s not Wednesday or Friday.

On page 6 a diagram was drawn up using Wednesday as the day of our savior’s death. Although it can be

charted out to make it look like that a Wednesday impalement is in accordance with Matthew 12:40, which

makes it seem as though a Wednesday impalement is the only day that can be concluded concerning the

day our savoir died, but when considering the many other verses of Scripture that deal with the death and

resurrection of our savior a Wednesday impalement clearly does not coincide with Scripture.

Twelve Hours In The Day

Aside from not falling in line with so many other verses of Scripture the scenario that our savior died on a

Wednesday and that the time spent in the tomb has to be 72 hours, because of the theory that each day must

consist of 12 hours just because John 11:9 mentions that there are “ twelve hours in the day,” has problems

when dealing with the prophecies that say he will be resurrected on “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21;

20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-

4), and when dealing with the prophecies that say he will be resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-

40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21). Clearly, every time Scripture makes a reference to the daylight

portion of a day the full twelve hour period of daylight does not have to be included based upon what

is written in John 11:9.

The teaching that our savior died on a Wednesday has a problem with the three days and three nights

prophecy because the ones who teach it either:

1. Refuse to acknowledge that the day wasn’t over when our savior first entered into the sepulcher (Lk.

23:54), with the result of his being in the sepulcher three nights and three days rather than three days

and three nights as prophesied in Scripture (Mt. 12:40).

2. Or they use four days and three nights in their equation instead of only three days as prophesied (Mt.

12:40).

At any rate, neither Wednesday nor Friday coincides with Scripture as being the day our savior died.

However, Thursday does! Please note that for those who include a part of Wednesday for the time our

savior was in the sepulcher and teach that he rose late in the afternoon on the weekly Sabbath they do not

use the 12 hour theory for those two days. On Wednesday they only use an hour or so for that day, then

12 hours are used for the day portion of Thursday, then 12 hours are used for the day portion of Friday, but

then only 11 hours or so are used for the remanding day portion of the weekly Sabbath.

Furthermore, for those who teach the 12 hour theory and say that our savior was resurrected late in the

afternoon on the weekly Sabbath, but exclude any part of Wednesday, they do not really use up the full

12 hours of the weekly Sabbath day, because if the full 12 hour period of time for that day was used then

the day would be over and the resurrection would have occurred on the night of the following day, but then

a fourth night would be involved.

Clearly the 12 hour theory is just that, a theory, and it doesn’t coincide with Scripture.

3 Days & 3 Nights = 72 Hours?

As already demonstrated Thursday fits in every way; from tracing the days in sequence listed in Scripture

to the blatant comments made in Scripture found in Luke 24:21, that the first day of the week (vv. 1, 13) is

the third day since our savior was condemned to death (20). Thursday is the only day that can be

demonstrated to fit the prophecies: that he would remain in the heart of the earth “three days and three

nights” (Mt. 12:40), that he would be resurrected on “the third day” (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk.

9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4), that he

would be resurrected “in three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21), and that he

would be resurrected “After three days” (Mt. 27:62-64; Mk. 8:27-31). This is mapped out in the chart

below under the header, All Prophecies Considered Confirm Thursday.

Also, for those who believe that our savior died on a Friday and was resurrected on a Sunday the

prophecies that say our savior will be resurrected “After three days” (Mt 27:62-64; Mk. 8:27-31) do not

coincide with that theory, because “After three days” from Friday extends past Sunday.

In the chart below under the header, All Prophecies Considered Confirm Thursday, it is demonstrated how

Thursday fits all of the prophecies concerning the three days, but first we need to clarify that the three day

and three night prophesy does not mean that a full 72 hour period of time has to be used. Although a

reference to a three day and three night period of time can be a reference to a 72 hour period of time, but

also a reference to a three day and three night period of time can be a reference to a lesser period of time

than 72 hours.

From a Scriptural point of view it is obvious that a reference to a three day and three night period of time

can be a reference to a lesser period of time than being 72 hours when understanding that our savior wasn’t

in the sepulcher a full 72 hours. Furthermore, simple reasoning can demonstrate that the mention of three

days and three nights does not have to be a reference to a 72 hour period of time too.

When making a reference to a three day and three night period of time in order for that reference to clearly

mean a 72 hour period of time it might be stated that it is a “full” or “complete” three days and three nights.

However, such is not the case with any reference to the time our savior was to be in the sepulcher.

Furthermore, from many other prophecies stating that he will be resurrected in/within a three day period of

time (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21), and from many other prophecies stating that

he will be resurrected on the third day (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22;

13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4) these prophecies clarify that the context of

Matthew 12:40 CANNOT be a reference to a 72 hour period of time.

If Matthew 12:40 were a reference to a 72 hour period of time then the prophecies that say he would be

resurrected in/within three days (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21), and the

prophecies that say he will be resurrected on the third day (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31;

10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4) WOULD HAVE

BEEN FALSE PROPHECIES. Therefore, because our savior was to be resurrected on the third day,

which would be in/within a three day period of time, it is IMPOSSIBLE that he was in the sepulcher for

a 72 hour period of time because a 72 hour period of time engulfs the whole three day and three night

period of time. If our savior were in the sepulcher for a 72 hour period of time then his resurrection

wouldn’t have been in/within the three days and he wouldn’t have been resurrected on the third day. If our

savior was in the sepulcher for a full 72 hour period of time then his resurrection would have been on

the fourth day, which is outside of the three days in which he was to be resurrected.

Simple Reasoning

If we had a three day and three night paid vacation, but if we stayed until the fourth day then we would

have to pay, then in order to avoid the cost we would have to be sure to be out before the three day period

of time was up. However, being gone before the total three day period of time was up wouldn’t mean that

we were not there for three days and three nights. It would only mean that we were not there for a

complete three days and three nights. Therefore, just because our savior wasn’t in the sepulcher for a

complete three days and three nights doesn’t mean that he wasn’t in the sepulcher for three days and three

nights. Consider this, a three day and three night vacation (or should I say a three night and three day

vacation) could look something like:

After work on Friday a family gets to the hotel around 9pm where they spend the night. 1st night

They are there for the full day on Saturday. 1st day

They stay another night, Saturday night. 2nd night

They are there for the full day on Sunday. 2nd day

They stay for another night, Sunday night. 3rd night

And their last day there is on Monday but they have to be home in time to get settled

back in at home so they can be ready for work on Tuesday. So they leave around 4 pm. 3rd day

Please note that from 9pm on Friday to 9pm on Saturday is, 24 hours

And from 9pm on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday is, 24 hours

And from 9pm on Sunday to 4 pm on Monday is only, 19 hours

Thus, this three day and three night period of time is only, 67 hours

Although the hours in the above scenario do not add up to be 72 hours doesn’t change the fact that they

were there for three days and three nights, and the same is true of the time our savior was in the sepulcher.

Just because he wasn’t in the sepulcher for a 72 hour period of time (we are not told how many hours it

was) doesn’t change the fact that he was in the sepulcher for three days and three nights.

Also, please note that this three day period of time spans across four different days, Friday, Saturday,

Sunday, and Monday, but there are only three days that represent the daytime portion: Saturday, Sunday,

and Monday, and there are only three nights that make up the nighttime portion: Friday night, Saturday

night, and Sunday night. This is similar to the time our savior spent in the sepulcher with the exception that

it was three days and three nights rather than three nights and three days. (Mt. 12:40. Also see p 13)

Using Words In Context

Although when the word “day/days” (Strong’s #2250 h`me,ra) is used the full daylight portion can be the

implication, DEPENDING ON THE CONTEXT, it is obvious that the context of Matthew 12:40 does not

imply that the full daylight portion of each day must be used because other Scriptures do not allow for it to

be so.

From Bible works 7.0 in the Strong’s data for the word, “days,” taken from Matthew 12:40, the data reads,

“2250 h`me,ra hemera {hay-mer'-ah} Meaning: 1) the day, used of the natural day, or the interval between

sunrise and sunset, as distinguished from and contrasted with the night 1a) in the daytime 1b) metaph., ‘the

day’ is regarded as the time for abstaining from indulgence, vice, crime, because acts of the sort are

perpetrated at night and in darkness 2) of the civil day, or the space of twenty four hours (thus including the

night) 2a) Eastern usage of this term differs from our western usage. Any part of a day is counted as a

whole day, hence the expression ‘three days and three nights’ does not mean literally three whole days, but

at least one whole day plus part of two other days. 3) of the last day of this present age, the day Christ will

return from heaven, raise the dead, hold the final judgment, and perfect his kingdom 4) used of time in

general, i.e. the days of his life. Origin: from (with 5610 implied) of a derivative of hemai (to sit, akin to

Clearly, when the word day/days is used in Scripture it can be used to imply the full daylight period of

time, or the full 24 hour period of time, but also it can be used to imply only a portion of the daylight period

of time. Which in the case of Matthew 12:40 it is obvious that a 12 hour period of time cannot be applied to

each day mentioned because our savior was to be resurrected WITHIN the three day period of time. This

can be noted in various Scriptures (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34;

14:58; 15:29-30; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33; 24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4), including

the Scripture found in John 2:19-21, which reads, “Yahushua answered and said unto them, Destroy this

temple, and IN three days I will raise it up. 20

Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in

building, and wilt thou rear it up IN three days? 21

But he spake of the temple of his body.”

From the above quoted verses of Scripture found in John please note that the word, IN, is, “1722 evn en {en}

Meaning: 1) in, by, with etc. Origin: a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or

state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate

between 1519 and 1537); TDNT - 2:537,233; prep” [From Bible works 7.0 in the Strong’s data]).

Therefore, the implication is that our savior was to be resurrected, within a three day span of time.

If the word “days” could only be a reference to the full daylight portion of the three days that is spoken of

in Matthew 12:40 then John 2:19 would have to read, after three days, instead of, “in three days,” because

the word, “in,” has the implication of being, within, not, outside of. Thus, the same can be and is true of

Matthew 12:40. Furthermore, because most of the daylight period of time was gone by the time our savior

was laid to rest on that first day (Lk. 23:54) it is obvious that the period of time that is to be used for

that first day is only a portion of the daylight period of time, and the same is true of the last nighttime

portion of the three days and three nights because it was yet dark when Mary came to the sepulcher (Jn.

20:1) but Yahushua had already been resurrected. Clearly the full daylight period of time for each of the

three days do not have to be included nor does the full nighttime period of time for each of the three nights

have to be included in order to be in a place for three days and three nights. (see again p 43, Simple

Reasoning)

In the prophecy of the three days and three nights (Mt. 12:40), of the daytime portion of the prophecy there

was not 36 hours nor were there 36 hours in the nighttime portion of the prophecy, but there were a total of

three days (not three complete days) and three nights (not three complete nights) used to make up the

prophecy.

Neither Wednesday Nor Friday Fit

Although some Scriptures can be used to make it seem as though our savior died on a Wednesday or a

Friday but when examining all the details concerning what those and other Scriptures say it becomes clear

that neither Wednesday nor Friday fit. Thus, something is read into the Scriptures that are used to make it

seem as though our savior died on a Wednesday or a Friday. Please note that:

#1 Neither Wednesday nor Friday fit the prophecy concerning the “three days and three nights” (Mt.

12:40). From late Friday afternoon to before sunrise on Sunday it is impossible to get three days

and three nights. Also, from late in the afternoon on Wednesday to late in the afternoon on

Saturday a total of four days and three nights are used in that calculation when it is only supposed

to be three days and three nights. (Mt. 12:40)

#2 Although saying that our savior died on Wednesday could seemingly fit the prophecies that say

our savior will be resurrected, “after three days” (Mt. 27:62-64; Mk. 8:27-31), Friday doesn’t.

Sunday clearly cannot be counted as being “after three days” from Friday.

#3 Although saying that our savior died on a Friday could seemingly fit the prophecies that say our

savior will be resurrected “in/within three days” (Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58; 15:29-30; Jn.

2:19-21), Wednesday doesn’t. Many who teach the Wednesday theory also teach a 72 hour theory,

which if our savior was in the sepulcher for 72 hours THE THREE DAYS ARE FULLY

USED UP, and that leaves no room for his resurrection to be in/within those three days.

#4 Although Friday could seemingly fit the prophecy that says our savior will be resurrected on the

third day (Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31; 10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33;

24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4) Wednesday doesn’t. Because of the 72 hour theory

that is taught by those who teach our savior died on a Wednesday leaves our savior in the

sepulcher throughout the whole third day period of time. Thus, Wednesday doesn’t even

seemingly fit this prophecy.

#5 Neither Wednesday nor Friday fit what is described in Luke 24:1, 13, 20-21, that “the first day of

the week” (vv. 1, 13) was “the third day since” (v. 21) “the chief priests and… rulers delivered

him (our savior) to be condemned to death.” (v. 20)

With the teaching that our savior died on a Wednesday it appears to fit 1 of the above-mentioned

possibilities and Friday appears to fit 2, so is 1 out of 5 good enough for you? How about 2 out of 5? Or

would even 3 or 4 out of 5 be good enough for you? Whichever the case, Thursday fits all of the above-

mentioned possibilities. Therefore I believe that the truth of the matter concerning what day it was our

savior laid down his life for us was Thursday.

Conclusion

Thursday is the only day that fits all the prophecies concerning what day our savior died and it is the only

day that lines up with what is said in Luke 24:15-21, that “the first day of the week” (vv. 1, 13) was the

third day since the chief priests and rulers delivered him to be condemned to death and had him hung on a

tree. However, neither Wednesday nor Friday falls in line with these verses of Scripture nor does

Wednesday or Friday coincide with the Prophecies that say:

#1 he was to be in the heart of the earth “three days and three nights.” Mt. 12:40

#2 he will rise again, “after three days.” Mt. 27:62-64; Mk. 8:27-31

#3 “the temple of his body,” will be reared up, “in three days.” Mt. 26:61; 27:39-40; Mk. 14:58;

15:29-30; Jn. 2:19-21

#4 he was to rise from the dead on “the third day.” Mt. 17:22-23; 16:21; 20:18-19; Mk. 9:31;

10:32-34; Lk. 9:18-22; 13:31-32; 18:31-33;

24:6-7, 45-46; Acts 10:39-40; 1Cor. 15:3-4

And Scripture tells us:

#5 “the first day of the week” (vv. 1, 13) was “the

third day since” (v. 21) “the chief priests and… rulers

delivered him to be condemned to death.” (v. 20) Luke 24:1, 13, 20-21

Thus, Thursday was the day our savior died and “the first day of the week” was the day he rose from the

dead. Out of 5 different ways Scripture speaks about our savior’s death and resurrection Wednesday only

seemingly fits 1 of them and Friday only seemingly fits 2 of them. However, Thursday fits all 5 points

concerning what day our savior’s death and resurrection was on. (Also, see the above chart on page 45)

It is my prayer that we all continue to study with the desire to come to the knowledge of the truth (Hos. 4:6;

Jn. 4:23-24) so we can apply it to our lives (2Pet. 3:18) and teach it to others (Mt. 5:16). If what is reveled

Appendix 1

The Year In Which Our Savior Died

From knowing the truth concerning what day our savior died some believe helps determine whether the

Scriptural year can or can’t begin on or before the vernal equinox. Some have determined that the

Scriptural year cannot begin until after the vernal equinox from a misconception that our savior died on

a Wednesday, which leads them to believe that our savior died in the year 31 C.E. The reason that

information tells them that the Scriptural year cannot begin until after the vernal equinox is from the

understanding that Scriptural months are based on the moons cycle and that the Passover is always on, or

just prior to the full moon. Passover day is never after the full moon. From this understanding they find that

in the year 31 C.E. the moon’s cycle that has the full moon on a Wednesday is the moon’s cycle that has its

new moon first after the equinox. However, there are those who believe that the Scriptural year can begin

before the vernal equinox.

One school of thought teaches that the new moon of the first Scriptural month cannot be before the vernal

equinox while another school of thought teaches that the full moon of the first Scriptural month cannot be

before the vernal equinox. Whichever the case may be it is evident that our savior did not die in the year 31

C.E. because the 14th day of the first Scriptural month’s moon’s cycle did not land on a Thursday in that

year. The evidence is truly overwhelming that our savior did not die on a Wednesday or on a Friday.

Because the moon’s cycle can be traced back thousands of years it can be determined what day of the week

the Passover was on in nearly any given year. Thus, because it can be traced back to the time when our

savior walked the face of this earth as a mortal man some years thought to be the year our savior died are

discovered to be false. Below are some charts that were taken from the website, http://aa.usno.navy.mil/,

which lists the full moons that were on or next after date of equinox, and the new moons that were on or

preceding date of equinox, and the new moon following equinox. The years that are charted out on the

website are from the year 25 B.C.E. to the year 38 C.E. However, the only years that I know of which are

believed to be the year our savior died in are: 30, 31, and 33 C.E. Therefore, the only years that I will be

dealing with will be the years 28 – 34 C.E. I trust that the span of these years will be sufficient for this

article.

Passover In The Year 31 C.E.

Because of the belief that the Passover must be observed in accordance to the second full moon after the

vernal equinox, when the previous month’s new moon is before the vernal equinox but its full moon is after

the equinox, in such cases both months (a moon’s cycle) will be dealt with. However, sometimes the

moon’s cycle that is first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox is the same moon’s cycle that is first

to have its new moon after the vernal equinox. In such cases there is no controversy and only one moon’s

cycle will be dealt with. The year 31 C.E. is a year where the moon’s cycle that is first to have its full moon

after the vernal equinox and the moon’s cycle that is first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox are

different. However, the 14th day of both of those moons cycle is not on a Thursday, which makes it evident

that our savior did not die in the year 31 C.E.

From the above information listed in the table for the equinox we see that in the year 31 C.E. the equinox

was on March 23 at 3 A.M. (see table under, Vernal Equinox), and the new moon prior to that date is

recorded as being on March 11 at 11 P.M. (see table under new moon), which puts the first full moon that

is after the equinox on the date of March 27, which is a Tuesday (see table under, Full Moon). Therefore,

because it is believed by some that the day when our savior died was on a Wednesday, information such as

this is used for proof that the Scriptural year cannot begin until after the vernal equinox because the

following month indicates that the full moon was on Wednesday, April 25th (See chart below with dates

highlighted. The last date highlighted in the chart below is the full moon of the moon’s cycle that was first

to have its new moon after the equinox). However, when fully investigating the Scriptures concerning the

death and resurrection of our savior it is obvious that he didn’t die on a Wednesday. Therefore, THE

BELIEF THAT THE PASSOVER MOON WAS THE SECOND FULL MOON AFTER THE

VERNAL EQUINOX IN THE YEAR OUR SAVIOR DIED IS INCORRECT and cannot be used for

proof that the Scriptural year cannot begin until after the vernal equinox.

Although the tables above do not list the visible new moon (the conjunction of the moon likely is what is

used as being new moon day which isn’t a Scriptural new moon) but the full moon that is listed is, as

already stated, “accurate to within… one or two hours.” And from knowing that a moon’s cycle is

approximately 29 ½ days long it becomes obvious that the full moon is always on the 14th or 15th day of

each moon’s cycle. Thus, from dating back it is evident that the month does not begin at conjunction,

because when dating back from the full moon to the conjunction of the moon it usually is 15-16 days rather

than 14-15. Therefore, without getting too technical, Passover day (the day our savior died) can be easily

pinpointed as being on one day or the other in nearly any given year.

Again, something to note is: because a moon’s cycle is always approximately 29 ½ days long the full moon

will always be on the 14th or 15th day of every moon’s cycle, and because the Passover is always on the

14th day of the moon’s cycle, Passover day will never extend past the date of a full moon. Passover day

is always just one day prior to or on the same day when the full moon occurs.

Also, because the tables above do not list the date for the full moon in the month of April 31 C.E. below is

a Calendar that is charted out which lists the quarterly occurrences of the moon’s cycle. It should be noted

that depending on the location from which the moon is calculated it will make a difference in what time the

moon’s quarterly activities are recorded as being because of the different time zones around the world. The

chart below is calculated according to the time in Israel and will vary slightly from the dates listed in the

above tables because the time zone that the moon was calculated from in them is not the same as in the

charts below.

Although I have noticed that some of the days listed for the new moon differ in the charts below from the

tables above I haven’t noticed a difference in the day listed for the full moons. The chart below was taken

from the website, http://www.timeanddate.com/. In order to locate the link for the calendar charts from this

website click on the link, Calendar for Any Year, then find the box for the year of the calendar and insert

whatever year you wish to view.

Listed below are three calendar months. The first month (March) is the month when the vernal equinox

appears. The first occurrence of a full moon after the vernal equinox also is in the month of March, but that

moon’s cycle began before the vernal equinox. The moons cycle that is first to begin after the vernal

equinox has its full moon in the month of April. The month of May is just there for good measure.

Beings how there are approximately 29½ days in a moon’s cycle the full moon is always on the 14th or the

15th day of the moon’s cycle. Thus, Passover day is always observed just a day prior to the full moon or on

the day when the full moon occurs, because Passover is on the fourteenth day (Ex. 12:6; Lev. 23:5; Num.

9:2-3, 5, 10-11; 28:16; Josh. 5:10; 2Chr. 30:15; 35:1; Ezra 6:19; Eze. 45:21). Thus Passover day can never

be observed after the day when the full moon occurs. Therefore, if Passover is to be observed in the moon’s

cycle that is first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox (which will never give allowance for the

Passover to be observed before the vernal equinox) then the Passover that was observed in the year 31 C.E

would have been on either March 26 or 27. Because the first full moon after the vernal equinox in the year

31 C.E. was on a Tuesday shows that the Passover in that year would have been on a Monday or a Tuesday.

However, if the Scriptural year can’t begin until the new moon is past the vernal equinox then in the year

31 C.E. Passover would have been observed in the month of April, on either the 24th or the 25th, which

would put Passover day on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday because the full moon of that month was on a

Wednesday. And, of course, those who believe our savior died on a Wednesday believe that the Passover

was on a Wednesday in the year 31 C.E. and believe that proves that this was the year he died. And with

that belief it is determined that the Passover isn’t always observed in the moon’s cycle that is first to have

its full moon after the vernal equinox but is always observed in the moon’s cycle that is first to have its new

moon after the vernal equinox. However, I disagree with that theology for many reasons. One such reason

being: our savior didn’t die on a Wednesday! Nor did he die on a Monday or on a Tuesday. However, those

are the only possible days that the Passover could have been on in the year 31 C.E., thus, our savior did not

die in the year 31 C.E. Those who say our savior died on a Friday also should take note of these facts.

Because the only possible days that the Passover could have been on in the year 31 C.E. are: Monday,

Tuesday, or Wednesday, it is obvious that our savior did not die in that year. The year when our savior died

the 14th day of the first Scriptural month, Passover day, was on a Thursday.

Passover In The Years 28 – 34 C.E.

Because a Scriptural month is based on a moon’s cycle and because the moon’s cycle is always

approximately 29 ½ days long it becomes obvious that the full moon is always on the 14th or 15th day of

each moon’s cycle. And because Passover day is on the 14th day of the Scriptural month (Ex. 12:6; Lev.

23:5; Num. 9:2-3, 5; 28:16; Josh. 5:10; 2Chr. 35:1; Ezra 6:19; Eze. 45:21) Passover day itself will always

be just one day prior to or on the same day when the full moon occurs. Thus, Passover day can easily

be pinpointed within a day or two of the moon’s cycle in any given year.

28 C.E.

In the year 28 C.E. the moon’s cycle that was first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox and was

first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox are not the same month. Therefore, if Passover is to be

observed in the moon’s cycle that is first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox then the day when

the Passover would have been observed in the year 28 C.E. would have been either March 28 or 29,

because March 28 was just one day prior to the full moon of the moon’s cycle that was first to have its

FULL MOON after the vernal equinox and March 29 was full moon day itself. And those dates landed

on a Sunday and Monday. (See chart below)

However, if Passover is to be observed in the moon’s cycle that is first to have its new moon after the

vernal equinox then the day when the Passover would have been observed in the year 28 C.E. would have

been either April 26 or 27, because April 26 was just one day prior to the full moon of the moon’s cycle

that was first to have its NEW MOON after the vernal equinox and April 27 was full moon day itself.

And those dates landed on a Monday and Tuesday (see chart below). Therefore, it is clear to see that our

savior did not die in the year 28 C.E. because Passover day couldn’t have been on a Thursday.

In the year 30 C.E. the moon’s cycle that was first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox and was

first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox was the same month. Therefore, because this moon’s

cycle was not only the moon’s cycle that was first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox but also it

is the moon’s cycle that was first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox the date for Passover

would be the same for these two schools of thought: that the Passover must be observed in the moon’s

was the moon’s cycle that was first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox the date for Passover

would be the same for these two schools of thought: that the Passover must be observed in the moon’s

cycle that is first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox or that the Passover must be observed in the

moon’s cycle that is first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox. Whichever the case may be, the

day when the Passover would have been observed in the year 32 C.E. would have been either April 13 or

14, because April 13 was just one day prior to the full moon of the moon’s cycle that was first to have its

full moon and new moon after the vernal equinox and April 14 was new moon day itself. And those dates

landed on a Sunday and Monday (see chart below). Therefore, it is clear to see that our savior did not die in

the year 32 C.E. because Passover day couldn’t have been on a Thursday.

In the year 33 C.E. the moon’s cycle that was first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox and was

first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox was not the same month. Therefore, if Passover is to be

observed in the month that is first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox then the day when the

Passover would have been observed in the year 33 C.E. would have been either April 2 or 3, because April

2 is just one day prior to the full moon of the moon’s cycle that was first to have its FULL MOON after

the vernal equinox and April 3 is full moon day itself. And these dates land on a Thursday and Friday.

(See chart below) Nonetheless, from the time of the conjunction of the new moon I would agree that the

14th day of the moon in this moon’s cycle was likely on Friday.

However, if Passover is to be observed in the month that is first to have its new moon after the vernal

equinox then the day when the Passover would have been observed in the year 33 C.E. would have been

either May 2 or 3, because May 2 is just one day prior to the full moon of the moon’s cycle that was first to

have its NEW MOON after the vernal equinox and May 3 is full moon day itself, and these dates land on

a Saturday and Sunday (see chart below). With this information I believe it is clear to see that our savior

did not die in the year 33 C.E. because Passover day likely was not on a Thursday, but because the

Passover could have been on a Friday many Christians say this year was the year our savior died.

Something to note about this year is that in some Bibles that give the date for a timeline in Scripture the

year 33 C.E. is the year that is said to be the year our savior died. Likely this year was chosen because the

Passover in this year was likely on a Friday and thus it backs the false teaching that it was a Friday when

our savior died. However, that teaching cannot be held up with Scripture and it does not reflect what was

recorded in history. (See below on page 57 what the historian, Flavius Josephus, records in history)

However, an interesting side note to this is that in order for the Passover to be on a Friday in the year 33

C.E. the moon’s cycle that would have Passover on a Friday isn’t the one that is first to have its new moon

after the vernal equinox, it is the one that is first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox with the

allowance of its new moon being before the vernal equinox. Thus, the key to when the Passover is to be

observed is that it is to be observed in the moon’s cycle that is first to have its full moon after the vernal

equinox but the new moon of that moon’s cycle does not have to be after the vernal equinox, although it

can be.

34 C.E.

In the year 34 C.E. the moon’s cycle that was first to have its full moon after the vernal equinox and the

moon’s cycle that was first to have its new moon after the vernal equinox might be the same month,

because the vernal equinox is listed as having its time at 9 P.M. on March 22 (see above table under,

VERNAL EQUINOX, p 50), which according to Scripture actually places this time on the 23rd (because

Scriptural days begin with the evening, at sundown). Therefore, the full moon that is on March 23 is

actually on the same day as the vernal equinox, although the full moon does occur later than the equinox is

recorded as occurring. Nevertheless, when a full moon lands on the day of the equinox and it is only 14

days old then Passover day itself too can be on the same day of the equinox, depending on if the equinox

occurred prior to the occurrence of the full noon as is the case in this instance, but if the full moon that

lands on the day of the equinox is 15 days old then the Passover must be observed in the next moon’s cycle

because the Passover cannot be observed on the day prior to the equinox.

This seems to be a very difficult year to calculate which moon’s cycle the Passover would be in without

digging deeper and getting more technical details. Whichever the case may be, although one might be able

to argue that the Passover in the year 34 C.E. could have been on a Wednesday or Thursday (April 21 & 22

[see chart below]) I don’t know of anyone proclaiming this year to be the year that our savior died.

Therefore, there is no need to go further into detail concerning this matter at this time.

History Records The Year In Which Our Savior Died

In the book, The Works of JOSEPHUS, Complete and unabridged in One Volume, Translated by, William

Whiston, A.M., this is recorded in the appendix of the book, Dissertation 1. The Testimonies of Josephus

concerning Jesus Christ, John the Baptist, and James the Just, Vindicated. Page 817: “P. 584, 586.]

Josephus relates, in the fifth book of the [Jewish] War, that Jerusalem was taken in the third [second] year

of Vespasian, as after forty years since they had dared to put Jesus to death: in which he says that James,

the brother of our Lord and Bishop of Jerusalem, was thrown down [from the temple] and slain of them, by

stoning.”

In the introduction of the above mentioned book (p ix) we read, “When Vespasian became emperor in A.D.

69 through rather extraordinary circumstances, Josephus was officially freed. He returned to Jerusalem with

Titus, Vespasian’s son and future emperor, where he served the Roman commander as interpreter and

mediator. Faced with the inevitability of the Roman forces’ ultimate victory, Josephus attempted to

convince the Jews holding Jerusalem to surrender and thus save the city. He was, however, unsuccessful

and in A.D. 70, the city fell to the Romans and was demolished.”

Because the year 70 C.E. (A.D. 70) is mentioned as being “forty years” since they had dared to put our

savior to death, this insight is another witness to the year being 30 C.E when our savior was put to death,

and it coincides with the Passover of that year being on a Thursday. (See above calendar chart: Calendar for

March – May, 30 C.E. ([time zone] Israel, p 54)

Appendix 2

The Preparation Day

It is assumed by many that our savior died on a Friday because of how some Scriptures read. Take for

instance Mark 15:42. Mark 15:42-43 reads, “And now when the even was come, because it was the

preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, 43

Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor,

which also waited for the kingdom of Yahweh, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body

of Yahushua.”

From the above quoted verses of Scripture it can appear that the preparation day being spoken of was a

Friday, beings how Friday is the day before the weekly Sabbath, and the same conclusion can be drawn

from Luke 23:54, which reads, “And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.” However, the

weekly Sabbath is not the only day that is identified as being a Sabbath in Scripture.

Clearly Leviticus 23:32 is not a reference to the weekly Sabbath, beings how the weekly Sabbath will not

consecutively be on the tenth day of the seventh month (Lev. 23:27), yet this day is identified as being a,

Sabbath. Therefore, just because the day is identified a being “the day before the sabbath” (Mk. 15:42) does

not assuredly mean that it is a Friday. Speaking of this Sabbath, in parentheses, John 19:31 reads, “for that

sabbath day was an high day.”

With the insight that other days aside from the weekly Sabbath are identified as being, Sabbaths, it is

evident that the Sabbath being spoken of in Mark 15:42 and in Luke 23:54 is something other than a regular

weekly Sabbath from what we read in John 19:31. Furthermore, it is evident that in connection to what was

written in Mark 15:42 and Luke 23:54 that the reference to the preparation day was a reference to Passover

day itself, which is on the 14th day of the first Scriptural month and is the day before the nation of Israel

keeps as a Sabbath and first day of unleavened bread, rather than being a reference to the day that precedes

the weekly Sabbath day.

The day of preparation that is mentioned in Scripture is reasoned to be Friday by many because it is

reasoned that Friday is the day used to prepare for the weekly Sabbath. However, although it is true that

Friday is used as a preparation day for the weekly Sabbath, Scripture does not identify Friday as being the

day of preparation that is spoken of in Mark 15:42 and in Luke 23:54. But Scripture does specifically

identify the day of preparation that is spoken of in Mark 15:42 and in Luke 23:54 as being, Passover day,

which can land on any day of the week but is specific to one day of the year.

The Preparation Was For Passover

Rather Than The Weekly Sabbath

In connection to what was written in Mark 15:42 and in Luke 23:54, being the preparation and the day

before the Sabbath, John 19:14 reads, “And it was the preparation of the Passover…” and John 19:31

reads, “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the

stake on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be

broken, and that they might be taken away.” Clearly this is a reference to the same day that is spoken of in

Mark 15:42 and Luke 23:54, so to put Mark 15:42 and Luke 23:54 in the proper context we see that the

preparation was, “of the Passover,” rather than for the weekly Sabbath, and the Sabbath being spoken of

was, “an high day.” Thus, the preparation wasn’t anymore for the weekly Sabbath than it was for the

national high day Sabbath that the nation of Israel keeps on the 15th day of the first month. The

preparation day being spoken of in these verses of Scripture is the day used for preparing the

Passover meal, and has nothing to do with the preparation of the weekly Sabbath. This truth is further

established in Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

In reference to the same day that Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, and John 19:14, 31 is referring to Matthew

26:17 reads, “Now the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Yahushua, saying

unto Him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the Passover?” Clearly this day of preparation

is identified as being the day on which the Passover is prepared; it is not a reference to a day of preparation

for a Sabbath. In fact, Scripture gives instruction that the Passover can be prepared on a Sabbath; it doesn’t

have to be prepared in advance because of the Sabbath. (Ex. 12:16)

Mark 14:12 reads, “And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the Passover, His disciples said

unto Him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the Passover?” Again, this verse

of Scripture is a reference to the same day that Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, and John 19:14, 31 is referring to

which identifies what the day of preparation is. The day of preparation being spoken of in these verses of

Scripture is the day when the Passover meal is prepared, which is always to be on the 14th day of the first

Scriptural month and is only on a Friday when the 14th day of the first Scriptural month is on a Friday.

However, in the year when our savior died the 14th day of the first Scriptural month was on a Thursday.

Luke 22:8 echo’s what we read in Matthew, Mark, and John in revealing that the preparation was for the

Passover. In Luke 22:8 our Savior sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare us the Passover, that we

may eat.” This verse of Scripture too is a reference to the same day that Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, John

19:14, 31 are referring to and identifies what the day of preparation is. The day of preparation is the day

when the Passover meal is prepared, which is always to be on the 14th day of the first Scriptural month and

is only on a Friday when the 14th day of the first Scriptural month is on a Friday. Scripture nowhere

identifies the day which Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, and John 19:14, 31 mentions as being the day before

the weekly Sabbath. Any such statement is read into the Scriptures and is wrongfully done so.

To say that when Scripture speaks of a preparation day it is a reference to a Friday is a private

interpretation and is only reasoned to be true. However, to say that when Scripture speaks of a preparation

day it is a reference to the Passover being prepared is a Scriptural interpretation. In 2nd Peter 1:20 we read,

“no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” Be careful of listening to interpretations that

are reasoned to be true (Pro. 14:12) over interpretations that are directly given by Scripture.

The word of Yahweh is consistent; the preparation day was a day on which the Passover was to be

prepared, it was not a day used to prepare for the upcoming weekly Sabbath. (Mt. 26:17, Mk. 14:12, Lk.

22:8-9, Jn. 19:14)

Appendix 3

Resurrection On The Third Day/Millennium

Many make the assumption that our savior could return on any day but that simply isn’t according to

Scripture. From what we are told concerning his body being raised on the third day tells us a lot when

understanding the spiritual aspect of that prophecy.

It is my understanding that the prophecies concerning the resurrection of the body of Messiah are duel

prophecies. One meaning is that his body will be raised on the third day but in a spiritual sense his body is a

reference to the believers that make up his body, he being the head (Rom. 12:4-5; 1Cor. 12:12-27; Eph.

4:15-16), and the third day is a reference to the third millennium from the time of his death, each day being

equal to 1000 years (Ps. 90:4; 2Pet. 3:8).

Although I do not know what the day or the hour is when the resurrection of the body of believers will be

but I am confident that the resurrection of the body of believers will not occur until the third day from the

time he died. With that being said, if he died in the year 30 C.E., then the resurrection can't take place until

after 2030 C.E., which would be in accordance to John 2:19-21 being a reference to when he will raise up

his body of believers on the third day. I believe Hosea 6:2 also is a reference to when the resurrection will

take place and it states that it will take place, after 2 days, which in turn will be on the third day.

Appendix 4

Two Suppers In Comparison

A key point in realizing that the supper in John 13 is not the last supper or the Passover supper (aside from

the plain words of Scripture which say it is BEFORE the feast of the Passover) is that it is AT THIS

SUPPER when Satan puts it into the heart of Judas to betray Yahushua. Notice that verse 2 reads, “And

supper being ended [served], the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to

betray Him.” Here we see that it wasn’t until ‘NOW,’ AT THIS SUPPER, that it was even put into the

heart of Judas to betray Yahushua.

Before the supper in John 13 was served, Satan had not yet entered into Judas; but ‘NOW,’ during this

supper, Satan put it into the heart of Judas to betray Yahushua. Satan however, still doesn’t ENTER into

Judas until near the end of this supper (Jn. 13:27). However, Satan had already entered into Judas

BEFORE the supper which Matthew 26:19-30, Mark 14:16-26 and Luke 22:13-39 records. It should be

noted that Matthew 26:14-16, Mark 14:10-11 and Luke 22:4-6 all make mention that Judas had already

covenanted to betray Yahushua BEFORE that supper. Satan entered into Judas at the supper which is

recorded in John 13, but that supper was on the night before the last supper.

This clearly is further proof that the supper in John 13 is BEFORE the last supper, the Passover supper;

which Matthew 26, Mark 14 and Luke 22 are speaking of. Satan had already entered into Judas to betray

Yahushua BEFORE the supper which they record (Mt. 26:14-16, Mk. 14:10-11 & Lk. 22:4-6). Note

especially Luke 22:3 is when Satan ENTERED into Judas. This was BEFORE the last supper, while

John’s account records this happening DURING that supper, even near the end of it (v. 27). Again, please

note that Satan enters into Judas near the end of one supper, but before the other supper. CLEARLY THEY

ARE DIFFERENT SUPPERS!

These are some notable conflicting differences which prove without a doubt that the supper recorded

in John 13 is, in fact, not the same supper which is recorded in Matthew 26, Mark 14 and Luke 22.

When we continue to compare these suppers to each other we will find even more conflicting

differences which prove these suppers are not the same supper.

Next I have listed 9 conflicting differences between the supper which is recorded in John 13 and the

Passover supper, the last supper.

Conflicting Differences Between

The Supper In John 13 And The Last Supper

#1 Matthew 26:18-21, Mark 14:13-18 and Luke 22:8-15 all identify that supper as being the Passover

supper; while the supper spoken of in John 13:1-2 is said to be before the Passover.

#2 Neither Matthew 26, Mark 14 nor Luke 22 make any mention of the foot washing; but John 13:3-7

does.

#3 Matthew 26:22, Mark 14:19 and Luke 22:24 all record that the atmosphere at that supper became

that of sorrow and strife; while John 13:23-25 reads, “Now there was leaning on Yahushua’s

bosom one of His disciples, whom Yahushua loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that

he should ask who it should be of whom He spake. He then lying on Yahushua’s breast saith unto

Him, ‘Master, who is it?’” The atmosphere at this supper was a relaxed one.

#4 In Matthew 26:26, Mark 14:22 and Luke 22:19 Yahushua passes out the bread to them ALL;

while in John 13:26-27 Yahushua only gives that bread (sop) to Judas.

#5 Matthew 26:26, Mark 14:22 and Luke 22:19 all use the word, ‘artos,’ (#740 in Strong’s) to

identify the bread eaten at that supper. John 13:18 does use this same word for bread, as spoken in

prophecy (Ps. 41:9), but in John 13:26, and 27 the bread that was eaten at this supper is the word,

‘psomion,’ (#5596 in Strong’s) and is translated as ‘sop’ not bread. Not once is this word used for

the word bread in Matthew 26, Mark 14 or Luke 22. Furthermore, the word, ‘psomion,’ can

nowhere be identified as being unleavened; which demonstrates further that the supper in John 13

was before the Passover supper that is recorded in Matthew 26, Mark 14 and Luke 22. This is

what John 13:1-2 told us; it’s before the Passover. However, the word that is used for the bread;

which was eaten in Matthew 26, Mark 14 and Luke 22 IS identified as being unleavened. In Luke

24:30 it is the 4th day of unleavened bread and the word, ‘artos,’ (#740 in Strong’s) is used which

was blessed by Yahushua Himself. Yahushua was without sin (2Cor. 5:21, Heb. 4:15, 1Pet. 2:22).

He wouldn’t have been passing out leavened bread and blessing it during the days of unleavened

bread.

#6 Matthew 26:27-29, Mark 14:23-25 and Luke 22:17-20 all make mention of the fruit of the vine;

which they all partook of, including Judas. In Luke 22:21 it can be noted that Judas was still with

them even after the fruit of the vine was divided among them in verse 17. However, John 13

makes no mention of the fruit of the vine whatsoever.

#7 Neither Matthew 26, Mark 14 nor Luke 22 make any mention about Judas leaving during that

supper; but the supper which John 13 records does (vv. 27-30).

#8 Matthew 26:14-16, Mark 14:10-11 and Luke 22:4-6 all record that it was BEFORE the upcoming

supper when Judas had conspired with the chief priests to betray Yahushua; while in John 13:30 it

was NEARING THE END of that supper when Satan entered into Judas to betray Yahushua.

#9 Matthew 26:17-19, Mark 14:12-16 and Luke 22:7-13 all make mention of the Passover being

made ready before they ate that supper; but in John 13 nothing is said about making ready the

Passover. When John 13 makes mention about preparing for the feast it wasn’t until near the end

of that supper when they thought Judas was going out to buy those things that they had need of

against the feast (v.29). Clearly, if the supper in John 13 was the Passover supper one would have

bought what was needed before the supper, not after.

Next I have listed some misconceptions that are thought by some to link the supper which is recorded

in John 13 to the last supper.

Misconceptions About These Two Suppers Being The Same Supper

Prophecy About Judas Betraying Yahushua

The prophecy about Judas betraying Yahushua is recorded in (1) John 13:21-31, (2) Matthew 26:21-25 and

Mark 14:18-21 and (3) Luke 22:21-23. This prophecy is thought, by some, to be given in a paralleled

fashion. However, within the chapters of Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22 and John 13 Yahushua prophesied

about his betrayal at least three different times. When trying to put a parallel of when this prophecy is given

it becomes evident that these prophecies are not given in a paralleled fashion.

First Time Prophecy Given

#1 The first time that Yahushua prophesied of His betrayal (within the chapters of Mt. 26; Mk. 14; Lk. 22;

Jn. 13) is found in John 13:21.

A. It can be noted at this supper when Yahushua prophesied of His betrayal, it is BEFORE (“a primary

preposition; ‘fore’, i.e. in front of, prior [figuratively superior] to:” Strong’s #4253) the feast of the

Passover (Jn. 13:1-2). Therefore, this prophecy was given at a supper before the Passover was eaten.

B. It can be noted in John 13:25 that only one said unto Him, “...Master, who is it?”

C. It can be noted in John 13:26 that Yahushua identifies the person who was going to betray Him by

saying, “He it is, to whom I shall give a sop...”

D. It can be noted in John 13:1-2 that this supper, which they were partaking of, was before the Passover.

This prophecy was given before the emblems of His body and blood were introduced; therefore, the

supper in John 13 makes no mention of the emblems whatsoever.

Second Time Prophecy Given

#2 The second time that Yahushua prophesied of His betrayal (within the chapters of Mt. 26; Mk. 14; Lk.

22; Jn. 13) is found in Matthew 26:21-25 and Mark 14:17-21.

A. It can be noted in Matthew 26:19-21 and Mark 14:16-18 that this prophecy was given during the time

when the Passover was being eaten.

B. It can be noted in Matthew 26:22 and Mark 14:19 that every one of them began to say unto Him,

“...is it I?”

C. It can be noted in Matthew 26:23 and Mark 14:20 that Yahushua identified the person who was going

to betray Him by saying, “It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with Me in the dish.”

D. Again, within these verses it can be noted that this prophecy is given before the emblems of His body

and blood were introduced. They were not introduced until Matthew 26: 26-29 and Mark 14:22-25.

Third Time Prophecy Given

#3 The third time that Yahushua prophesied of His betrayal (within the chapters of Mt. 26; Mk. 14; Lk.

22; Jn. 13) is found in Luke 22:21-23.

A. It can be noted in Luke 22:15-20 that the emblems, which represent the body and blood of the true

Passover Lamb (1Cor. 5:7) had already been passed out. This demonstrates that Yahushua prophesied

again of His betrayal after the Passover had been eaten.

B. It can be noted in Luke 22:23 that no one inquired of Yahushua who it was that was going to betray

Him. They inquired among themselves which of them it was that should do this thing.

C. It can be noted in Luke 22:21 that Yahushua identifies the person who was going to betray Him by

saying, “...the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.” Aside from everything else,

this is further proof that Judas was still with them after the emblems of Yahushua’s body and blood

were introduced. Judas did partake of the fruit of the vine as well as the body of Messiah.

D. It can be noted in Luke 22:17-20 that now it is after the emblems were introduced.

that this identifies that supper as being the last supper. Yahushua prophesied of His betrayal at least three

Prophecy About Peter Denying Yahushua

Here I have taken the prophecies about Peter denying Yahushua and have compared them with each other

in the same way that I compared the prophecies about Judas betraying Yahushua. I want to examine the

prophecy that Yahushua gave about Peter denying Him, because like the prophecy about Judas betraying

Yahushua, some also think that this prophecy is given in a paralleled fashion, and that this too is proof that

the supper which is recorded in John 13 is the same supper which is recorded in Matthew 26, Mark 14 and

Luke 22. However, within the chapters of Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22 and John 13, Yahushua, on at

least three different occasions, prophesies that Peter will deny Him. The prophecy about Peter denying

Yahushua is recorded in:

John 13:36-38, “The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.”

Luke 22:31-34, “the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.”

Matthew 26:34-35, “this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.”

And Mark 14:30-31, “before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.”

An interesting side note to all this is, after Yahushua was resurrected do you remember Yahushua asking

Peter, three times, “Lovest thou me?” (Jn. 21:15-17)

First Time Prophecy Given

#1 The first time that Yahushua prophesied about Peter denying Him (within these chapters) is found in

John 13:36-38.

A. Here it can be noted that this supper is BEFORE ("a primary preposition; 'fore', i.e. in front of, prior

[figuratively superior] to:" Strong's #4253), the feast of the Passover (John 13:1-2). Therefore, this

prophecy was prophesied at a supper before the feast of the Passover.

B. Here it can be noted that there is no day or night given telling when Peter will deny Him.

C. Here and afterwards, it can be noted that when Yahushua prophesied about Peter denying Him, Peter

does not argue about the matter.

D. In John 14:31 it can be noted that it is before they went out to the Mount of Olives.

B. Here it can be noted that now a day is given telling when Peter will deny Yahushua; it is this day.

Third Time Prophecy Given

#3 The third time that Yahushua prophesied about Peter denying Him (within these chapters) is found in

Matthew 26:34-35 and Mark 14:30-31.

A. Within these verses it can be noted that it too was after the Passover supper when the emblems of

Yahushua’s body and blood were introduced. (Mt. 26:19 & Mk. 14:16 show when the Passover Supper

was prepared)

B. Within these verses it can now be noted that not only is there a day given telling when Peter will deny

Yahushua; but also these verses are specific even to the night of when Peter will deny Yahushua; this

night.

C. Within these verses it can be noted that this time Peter does argue that he will not deny Yahushua

even though he should die with Him.

D. In Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26 it can be noted that this time when this prophecy was given; it was

after they had already gone out into the Mount of Olives.
