MOTHER LODE SWAP MEET On June 1, 2014 the Mother Lode Model T Club held its 38th Annual Swap Meet at the Fairgrounds in Auburn, California. Bill and Christian Finkbeiner headed up the striping of the field with help from Bruce lngram, John Boorinakis, Lewie Burcher and Dick Johnson. Kitty Goodell had a lunch for all the members that helped with set up and the field striping. Those that helped set up where, Gary Krezman, John Saylor, Darren Saylor, Richard Weitzel, Kenny Marriott, Vern Marriott, Lewie Burcher, Dick Johnson, Rich Instness, Bob McCoy, Joyce Weitzel, Kitty Goodell, Gordon Goodell, Susie Krezman, Jerry Moore and Les
Silveira. Joyce Weitzel Hosted the Potluck dinner. John Saylor BBQ'd Tri-Tip. Again Joyce had gift baskets for the winners of
the drawing. Thank you all who brought a dish to share. Richard Weitzel turned 70 and we all celebrated with a cake that his family brought. The day of the Swap Meet was cooler this year. Sunday morning we immediately had an electrical
T Diggins page 1
(Swap Meet - cont'd) problem, some of the field lights and the electrical to the food booth went out. Lucky for us we had two electricians on hand to fix the problem, Gary Krezman and Richard Instness. We did not sell out of spaces this year, but we did have a good stream of buyers coming in and most of the vendors we talked with had good sales. The food booth was busy selling coffee and donuts at 5:00 am. By 8:30 our customers wanted hamburgers , hot dogs, and pie. Gordon Goodell and Kenny Marriott manned the BBQ all day. Those helping in the food booth where, Joyce Weitzel, Junette Avey, Susie Krezman, Bobbi Machado, Kitty Goodell, Gina (Kittys sister), Lewie Burcher, Mindy lngram, Eula Marriott, Cindy Lindstedt, Toni Moore, Janice Saylor, and Olivia Marriott. Thank you to Richard Weitzel and Darren Saylor for patrolling the field all night. Vendor parking was
coordinated by Steve Short and crew of Darren Saylor, Chris Instness, Anthony Shasta & Alysa Moore and Kenny Marriott. A special thank
you to some of our youngest members, Shasta and Alysa Moore who helped out at the gate and where ever they were needed. These are very hard working young ladies. Our Club sends a big thank you to Vern and Eula Marriott for storing the food trailer for over twenty years. The trailer has found a new home at the Rice Ranch of Jerry and Toni Moore. Erik Barrett supplied the ice and provided us with a dumpster for the garbage. We, as a customer of the fairgrounds, are now required to provide for our own removal of garbage created by our event. A very big Thank you to John Saylor and Gary Krezman for co-chairing the Swap Meet. To everyone who helped, field striping, set up of food booth, manning the food booth, taking money at the gate, and for cleanup of the field, a job well done. Many hands make light work. --Gary & Susie Krezman
Tour to Maidu Indian Museum & Historic Site
June 21
We had five cars and ten club members join us on
our tour. Allen Koch had guest Topher Matson, (a
potential new
member) ride along
with him. We rode
through town and
down Indian Hill
Rd, to Newcastle
Rd. Turning on to
Brennans Rd.
we passed the Old
Shanghai Restaurant sign. It was perched on an old
flatbed truck along with other old farming
equipment scattered around it. We made a right
hand turn on to King Rd. taking it to Val Verde.
As we turned on to Val Verde the Horton Iris Farm
was on the right, unfortunately we did not see any
blooming Iris but they did have lots of Lavender
along the side of the road. After a nice long stretch
of country driving Val Verde becomes Wells Rd.
and dead ends at Barton Rd. Another short
distance on Barton we were soon cruising another
great Model-T road, Cavitt-Stallman Rd. Arriving
in Roseville we
were able to
avoid driving on
busiest major
streets to get to
the Museum.
When we
arrived Topher's
lovely wife
Kelly joined us for the tour.
When we reached the Indian Museum we had
a very informative docent who explained the
different displays. For 3000 years the Nisenean
Maidu prospered on the site, which has been since
1973 on the National Register of Historical
Places. There are walking paths which lead to rocks
with petro glyphs and areas the Maidu had used
for their daily activities.
After leaving the Museum we drove up a more
rural part of Eureka Rd. to Auburn-Folsom Rd. We
had a delicious lunch at Tratoria Deli then we all
headed different directions to home. Susie and I
thank those of you who came and we hope you
enjoyed the tour. --Junette Avey Brown

What's Happening at the CAM
“Selling the Dream:
Sacramento’s Early Car Dealers” On display from June 28, 2014 to November 30, 2014
The upcoming rotating exhibit, “Selling the Dream:
Sacramento’s Early Car Dealers,” is a completely
unique in comparison to our past exhibits. In
particular, we are focusing on the entrepreneurs
behind the
auto sales
industry in
Sacramento
rather than
just the cars.
The
experience
will include
images of historical Sacramento buildings that were
once vehicle showrooms, and an interactive display
for making your very own video advertisement after
a look at some of the local industry’s most clever
ads. The interactive addition will give visitors the
opportunity to become part of the exhibit!
Information in this exhibit has been curated
entirely in-house which makes it completely unique
to the Museum realm and the Sacramento
Community. “Selling the Dream” will span time
from the very first automobile dealers in the early
1900s into more recent years of the 1970s. Many
stories of the people who shaped Sacramento’s
culture and business, including many of whom are
still very familiar in today’s culture.
This exhibit has been developed in the midst of a
Museum renovation that is still in the planning
stages. Depending on
construction plans of our
building, this exhibit
could remain on display
for additional time.
Remember, every Mother Lode Member gets
one free admission per year. Just show you
membership card.
