NEWCOMERS MEMBERS NEEDED

Page 2: Thursday folder 5/31/12

The Newcomers committee is looking for new members. There are 2 different roles that you may serve in as a member of this committee and both are very fun AND easy, with a minimal time commitment. The first is a Buddy Family, and in this role you serve as a mentor to a new family, get to know them, and serve as a resource if they have questions. You would be paired with a new family that has similar age kids. This is an excellent role for those families that are relatively new to Lumen Christi themselves. The second role is an Ambassador and in this role you give tours during the Open House (with a cheat sheet, of course!) and help to host prospective family events. This is a great role for the more "seasoned" parents who have a lot to share about their experience at Lumen Christi. We hope you will contact our Newcomers committee chair, Michelle Gruenwald at [email protected] and volunteer to help out in this very important area of service. Thank you!! DOES YOUR SCHOOL GROUP WANT TO HAVE A FUNDRAISER NEXT YEAR? If your school group hopes to have a bake sale, cookie sale, collection for the needy, or any other kind of fundraiser next year, please fill out a Fundraiser Request form which can be found on the parish website under “Stewardship”. ALL school group fundraiser requests must be submitted to Mrs. Fyfe for approval before the requests can be sent to the Stewardship Committee by June 4. Thank you! VOLUNTEER TO BE A PART OF SCHOOL COUNCIL School Council is looking for several new members for the 2012-2013 school year. If you have a passion for our school and for guiding it to be the best it can be, then please consider volunteering your talents and time to our School Council. School Council consults on a variety of topics including curriculum, faith formation, marketing, budget, communications, and technology. The time commitment is one monthly evening meeting, plus offline sub-committee work. If you'd like more information or are interested, please contact any of the members of the School Council or Joe Cesarz at [email protected]. Please respond by June 1st. FINAL CALL FOR MARKET DAY! Only a few more days to stock up with Market Day! The last Market Day for the school year will be on Wednesday, June 6th. Online orders are due Saturday, June 2nd. Now is a great time to start stocking up for the summer months! If you are a new customer ordering online, use the code FIVEOFF to save $5 off a $25 order at www.marketday.com. All profits made by Market Day sales go directly to LC Parents Association. Market Day Questions? email Katie Hartzheim at [email protected]. HELP WANTED Do you have a few hours available each week, would like to work at your child's school and would like to earn some extra money? Well look no more! Lumen Christi has openings for: two paid playground supervisors and one after care supervisor.

Playground Supervisor: serve as paid playground supervisor (one at each campus) during the lunch & recess hour for the 2012-2013 school year.

After Care Supervisor: serve as paid after care supervisor two afternoons a week from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

If you are interested please call (242-7960) or email Kelly Fyfe: [email protected]

Submit In-Brief info to Cindy King (262)-242-7965 E-Mail: [email protected] Deadline: MONDAYS by 8:00 a.m.

Please check our Parish School website at http://www.lumenchristiparish.org/school/ for more comprehensive information

Dear fifth-grade parents, As students transition between grade levels during their educational journeys, parents and students naturally want to know about the new grade before arriving to school on the first day. For this reason, Lumen Christi will conduct a 6th Grade Orientation for parents Monday, June 4th at 6:oo pm in the middle school science lab. This Orientation is an opportunity for parents to get an overview of the schedule, curriculum, and some practices and protocols that are unique to middle school.

Sixth grade students are invited to a special orientation program at Lumen Christi on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 8:10 am – 11:00 am. Students will be able to ride the bus to and from school that morning, if they chose. The purposes of the student orientation are:

• To practice what to do when students first arrive at school • To find their locker and get it set up/organized • To walk through their daily schedule • To learn the general rules of middle school • To meet their teachers • To learn middle school procedures and expectations

It is my sincere hope that all parents and students are able to attend the designated orientation session so our students get off to the best possible start next year. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) throughout the 2012-13 school year.

God Bless, Kelly Fyfe Principal

Summer Band Information To Parents of current and future band students: Summer band is an excellent way for students to continue learning and growing as young musicians. Please consider fitting music into your child’s schedule. It is my hope that current band members will continue to take lessons this summer in order to maintain the skills they have worked so hard to develop this school year. Third grade students that think they might like to learn a band instrument in fourth grade are encouraged to take lessons this summer in order to learn the basics of their chosen instrument prior to fourth grade. A little head start for the new school year is helpful. Call Mr. Murphy with any questions. Any student in 4th through 8th grade that would like to learn an instrument is encouraged to take lessons this summer. It is never too late to learn an instrument and to be part of the school band. Current students are encouraged to continue with lessons during the summer. Instruments Offered: Flute, Clarinet, Alto or Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Snare Drum (Percussion) Summer lessons will be held at four locations (five weeks):

• Mondays at Lumen Christi School in Mequon. Beginning June 18 and ending July 16, 2012, 8:30am – 1:30pm.

• • Tuesdays at St. Francis Borgia School in Cedarburg beginning June 19 and ending July

17, 2012, 8:30 am – 1:30 pm.

• Wednesdays at Holy Family School in Whitefish Bay beginning June 20th and ending and July 18th, 2012, 8:30 am – 1:30 pm. (4849 N Wildwood Ave.)

• Thursdays at St. Eugene School in Fox Point beginning June 21st and ending July 19,

2012, 8:30 am - 1:30pm (7600 N. Port Washington Rd.) Lessons are 30 minutes long, preferably with two or more students, or privately by request of parents. Friends taking lessons together is encouraged. Lesson Fee: $76.00 payable to Gayle Murphy should be sent to the school office by June 4, 2012 You must call Mr. Murphy at 262-241-4495 to reserve your lesson time and ask any questions you might have. Times fill up fast and will be scheduled on a first come basis. Call as soon as possible to assure the lesson time you want. Sincerely, Gayle Murphy Band Director
