Why We Should Give
Giving acknowledges
God’s ownership.
God has created and still owns
all things. “The earth is the
Lord’s and everything in it, the
world, and all who live in
it” (Psalm24:1) We are manag-
ers of all that God entrusts to us.
When we give, we are merely
returning a portion of what God
has already given to us
(1 Corinthians 4:7).
Giving expresses our grat-
itude and thanksgiving to
God.
King David wrote, “Now, our
God, we give you thanks and
praise your glorious name. But
who am I, and who are my peo-
ple, that we should be able to
give as generously as this? Eve-
rything comes from you and we
have given you only what comes
from your hand” (1 Chronicles
29:13-15) David understood
God’s awesome love and gener-
osity. David saw the joy that his
people had in responding to
God’s love and care by giving
the to the building of the tem-
ple. It was his prayer that their
commitment and generous giv-
ing to the Lord would continue
forever.
(More reasons next month)
Failure to Believe God is the number one reason why people do not give as they should.
God says that it is impossible to out-give him. “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will
be measured to you” (Matthew 7:2)
God says that the soul that “waters” will be “watered” in return. “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be re-
freshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)
God says tht the one who plans few seeds will have a small harvest, but the one who plants a lot will have a big harvest. “Remember this:
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and who ever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 Corinthians 9:5)
We should always endeavor to make those who can’t be with us at church know that they are still part of us. Sometimes we find ourselves dealing with difficult and challenging seasons when it’s not easy to be out and about. Perhaps it’s due to the aging process or debilitating ill-ness. Let’s remember to always be present with our prayers, phone calls, cards, and visits. We are the body of Christ, members of one an-other.

prayed for you.
Red Cliff Volunteers in Mission Trip
June 18-23 Lori Rowe and Jesse Rowe
Driving up to Red Cliff was a trying experience as the area had over 12 inches of rain with more on Sunday night. We drove through high water in a few locations and managed to get through before they closed Hwy 13 just north of Ashland! Our home for the week was the Red Cliff AODA Program Mishomis House- means "grandfather" in
Ojibwa. On Monday, we went to work to deconstruct a broken wooden sidewalk that was ruined over the winter from a snowplow. Our group built a new boardwalk for Marlene. On Tuesday, we were sent over to Kenneth S.'s home to build him handrails for his porch. While there, we had a four-legged visitor. Yes, we saw a bear! We finished this job and were sent over to Vickie's house to replace and rebuild a new handrail on her deck that was rotten. For the rest of the week, we worked on several projects at the Early Childhood Center replacing some handrails with composite boards, sanding handrails as well as sanding and power washing their outdoor porches and stage areas. We then treated them with water seal to protect them longer.
On Wednesday afternoon, we were able to explore
our beautiful surroundings. We found a small
waterfall near Cornucopia (the northernmost Post
Office in WI). We had ice cream and supper in
Bayfield. Tribal members provided three meals for
us during the week- Indian Frybread Tacos, Chicken
Wildrice Vegetable Soup, and Fish Dinner (Grilled
Whitefish and Lake Trout) cooked over the campfire
at the area campground. Thanks for all of your
prayers during the week as it was a great experience!

Dear Friends,
The month of July has certainly begun with some very high dew points, eh? We have such a short sum-
mer season in which to enjoy the warmth that we crave during the long, cold winter months.
Now that the weather’s warmer, lots of folks are enjoying water activities from swimming to fishing to
boating to floating. There’s something about the water that is calming and peaceful. That is, of course,
unless you find yourself in a sudden squall and the water is anything but calming! When I was in 4th
grade, our 4-H group took a boat ride across Lake Erie to the Bob-Lo island amusement park. Every-
thing was fine . . . until the horrifying boat ride back home. I was terrified! There was a sudden storm; the waves and
the wind were mighty! I knew we were gonna DIE!! I went off by myself and cried and begged God not to let us die.
That was a very long time ago, yet I can still taste the all-consuming fear.
That reminds me of the account of Jesus stilling a storm in the Gospel of Mark 4:35-41. Jesus gets into a boat
with His disciples. It’s evening and He soon falls asleep on a cushion in the stern. “Now a great squall developed, and
the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was nearly swamped” (vs. 37). Have you ever wondered how
Jesus slept while the boat was nearly swamped in the gale storm? I mean, He must have gotten soaked as He rested on
the cushion in the back of the boat. Here they are in the middle of a windstorm. The boat is tossed and “nearly
swamped” – which implies that Jesus is getting pretty wet in this stormy scene! Yet, He was in the back of the boat,
sleeping. Oh, but not the disciples! They finally woke Jesus up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are about to
die?” What a sight! Jesus, peacefully sleeping. The disciples? They’re convinced that they’re about to die! As the story
continues, Jesus told the wind and the sea to “Be quiet! Calm down!” And the wind stopped, and it was dead calm. That
commercial comes to mind: “When E. F. Hutton talks, people listen.” Well, E.F. Hutton has nothing on Jesus Christ, Son
of the living God who created the winds and the seas!!
How does this account of Jesus calming the storm apply to you or me, you may be wondering? I don’t believe
that we have anything to fear when we remember we’re in the same boat with Jesus. Oh, we may “think” we’re about
to die. Our boat of life may look like it’s taken on about all the water it can without sinking, that’s true. In the turbulent
squalls of life, we must take our eyes off the conditions surrounding us and fix our eyes on who’s in our boat – JESUS!
And when JESUS talks, the winds and the squalls listen! Yes, we’ll have nasty, dangerous, and heartbreaking storms
throughout our lifetimes. But, YES! Because Jesus is in our boat, when we cry out to Him, He will speak His words of
calm and quiet to the tempest all around us!
The next time you find yourself on a death-defying boat ride being tossed all over the place, remember who’s in
your boat, and cry out to JESUS!!!!
There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus
--from lyrics “Cry Out to Jesus” by Third Day
Till next time,
