SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
This report discusses a program of grid establishment and
Humus geochem sampling carried out on the Oxaline Lake property
during October and November 1991,
Geological Mapping l Prospecting which was to have taken
place immediately following the Humus Sampling was cancelled due
to heavy snowfalls in the area starting on October 31.
Of 193 Humus samples taken in the program, 1370 returned
values of at least lOppb gold (maximum value returned was 25ppb).
In several cases anomalous values occur in groupings of two or
more contiguous samples and/or are coincident with the surface
trace of Fraser Filtered VLF-EM conductor axis.
It is recommended that detailed Geological Mapping t
Prospecting be carried out as previously planned, when conditions
permit, in order to further evaluate anomalous gold values and
their relationship to coincident conductors.
INTRODUCTION
The Oxaline Lake Property consists of 5 contiguous
unpatented raining claims located 3.5 km west of the town of
Jellicoe in the Thunder Bay Mining Division. Between October 29
and November 6, 1991 a program of recon grid establishment and
Humus Geochemistry sampling was carried out by the author to test
for the presence of gold mineralisation on the property. This
report presents the methodology and results of that program.
PROPERTY
The Oxaline Lake Property consists of 5 contiguous mining
claims located in Leduc Township, Thunder Bay Mining Division,
Ontario.
Claim Numbers: TB 1172950 - TB 1172953 inclusive
TB 1173785
The above claims were recorded by, and are currently held
by: Vernon Shein, 74 Partridge Street, Kitimat, B.C., V8C-1L5.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
The property is located in the southern part of Leduc
Township 3.5 km west of the Town of Jellicoe. The southwest
corner of the claims is approximately 400m north of the Trans-
Canada Highway //li, the southeast corner falls on the Northern
Ontario Gas Pipeline right-of-way.
GEOLOGY l M INERALIZATION
"The property is located in the Beardmore - Geraldton
Greenstone Belt at the boundary between the Wabigoon Metavolcanic
Subprovince to the north and the Quetico Metasedimentary Belt to
the south.
The property is underlain by eastwardly trending,
southwardly dipping, Archean epiclastic metasedimentary rocks.
The Solomon's Pillars prospect (INCO) located two miles to
the west has an estimated 100,000 tons grading 0.25 oz/ton Au

The Solomon's Pillars Fault (SPF), and east trending, south
dipping structure has been outlined by Morrison (1986) and
Mackasey (1976). It transects the Oxaline Lake Property at its
northern boundary." (V. Shein, March 1991)
CURRENT WORK PROGRAM
This subject of this report is a program of grid
establishment and Humus geochemistry carried out on the Oxaline
Lake Property between October 29 and November 6, 1991. All work
was supervised l performed by the author.
GRID
A total of 4.9 km of flagged gridlines were established
using hip-chain and compass. Lines are oriented north-south
(true Az. ) and are spaced 150m apart. Grid stations wero marked
in the field with heavy duty orange flagging tape clearly
labelled with line(easting ) and station(northing5 numbers.
In order to maintain good topographic control, and assure
that sample stations can be easily relocated, the ends of grid
lines were tied in to claim posts and/or adjoining grid lines.
The grid cut on this property in 1986-1988 by Seven Mile
High Resources (Morrison 1988) is not well preserved. Some
blazes and flagging tape from the old grid were noted in the bush
but attempts to follow the old lines were unsuccessful l and no
pickets were found.
HUMUS SAMPLING - METHODOLOGY l SAMPLE DESCRIPTIONS
Samples were collected using a 2 1/2 Ib. grubhoe (mattock)
and placed in 10cm x 25cm kraft paper sample bags. During the
later half of the sampling program a short handled shovel was
also used to clear away 15 - 25 cm of snow and icy crust before
samples were taken. Sample bags were labelled with line and
station number using a black felt-tip marker.
Notes were kept describing oach sample taken, a table
listing the definitions used in sample descriptions is given in
Table #1 below. A complete list of sample descriptions is given
in Appendix #1.
TABLE 1. CODES USED IN HUMUS SAMPLE DESCRIPTIONS IN APPENDIX ffi
Dominant tree type in area of sample.
sp = Spruce
ce = Cedar
bi - B irch
al = Alder
ba s Balsam
po - Poplar
bog = "bog", waterlogged spongy ground made up
primarily or entirely of sphagnum moss (peat).
swp - " swamp", low waterlogged ground, generally with
minor pools of stagnant surface water, */- muddy
stream channels, -W- sphagnum moss,
soc = " shallow outcrop", outcrop is less than 25cm deep
at sample site.
noc = " near outcrop", outcrop is visible within 3m
laterally from the sample site, depth of outcrop
below sample site not determined but is )25cm.
peat = " peat", an accumulation of partially decomposed
sphagnum moss formed by the growth and decay of
vegetation in place, in a water saturated
environment.
_7osa = "__ percent sand", the percentage of the
sample composed of mineral grains. Where
present in the survey area, mineral grains
consisted of well sorted, pale brown to light
grey, sand and silt.
Samples composed of peat (see appendix #1 ) from spruce bogs
or swamps ars composed entiroly of organic material, ("AO
Horizon") generally sphagnum moss, that has formed by growth and
.7
decay in place. Peat samples should generally be considered as a
distinct sample population and not directly compared to Humus
("Al Horizon") or Humus with a significant mineral component ("A2
Horizon") samples.
All samples were taken at depths between 5cm and 35cm below
ground surface. Peat samples were invariably taken at depths
greater than 20cm while Humus samples were from depths less than
20cm.
SIGNIFICANT RESULTS
Results of the Humus Geochem survey show 25 of 193 samples,
or 137o of samples, returned values of )9ppb gold (see Figure if2
and Appendix //l ).
Some interesting correlations can be seen when comparing the
plot of Humus Geochemistry results (Figure #2 accompanying this
report) to the 1988 Map of Fraser Filtered VLF-EM data from this
property by Seven Mile High Resources (see Morisson 1988). Table
112 below lists the sample stations which returned anomalous
geochem results and which correspond to the trace of VLF-EM
conductors.

follow-up occur on Line 350E at DOON - 025N and Line 1100E at

RECOMMENDATIONS
Detailed geological mapping t prospecting should be carried
out on the property in order to evaluate the anomalous gold
results returned from humus geochem sampling.
Particular emphasis should be placed on determining the
relationship between anomalous gold values and VLF-EM conductors
which run parallel to the Solomon's Pillars Fault.
