Dear Parish Family, I am sorry that I needed to be out of town on this weekend of our school’s Germanfest! I had long ago committed to being at a very close friend’s priestly ordination this Saturday in Kansas (one of the monks whom I lived with for almost 4 years). By the time you read this, his name will be Fr. Simon Baker. Please say a prayer for him (and all priests)! Please keep our second graders in your prayers as they prepare to receive their first Holy Communion next Sunday at the 10:30 AM Mass. May their joy and enthusiasm for the Eucharist renew is us adults an awe and wonder at so great a mystery and blessing!
Mark your calendars!! We are blessed to have a wonderful couple coming to our parish to make a presentation on Natural Family Planning. Dr. Mark and Debra Kummers will be here on Tuesday evening, May 5th, at 7:00 PM. It is an important topic on which all Catholics should be informed and knowledgeable. Finally, a number of people have asked about the series that I recorded with Sarah Swafford last summer (“At the Heart of Relationships”), it will air on EWTN from May 11-15, 2015 (five episodes) at 5:30 PM each evening. I have just a small part – Sarah is the star!
In Christ, our Risen Lord, Father James Dean

St. Benedict School News….
The Saint Benedict Catholic School year is on a roll to the end. The Benedictine Council Meeting held at Our Lady of the Gulf was a celebratory event with Mrs. Barbara Carter receiving a special award for her many years of service to the school. German Festival was a smashing hit for all students and participants. Thanks to the Blanchards and Gulf Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, a car now has a new owner (or the winner is $20,000 richer) and all the gift baskets and raffled items have found their homes. Now, at the middle of the final quarter, students are preparing for Field Day, the Medieval Faire, a Mary Celebration, and graduations while at the same time continuing to complete their curriculum. It is a rich life here at SBCS!
Pictures of Parish Functions The Parish Council has requested pictures of parish functions to post on the bulletin board in the parish hall. Examples of the type of functions are as follows: First Communion, Confirmation, Vacation Bible School, church dinners and summer fun days. In order to facilitate this effort, it is requested that anyone in the parish who takes pictures of one of these events and would like to share the picture with the parish; please send an email with the picture attached to either Carl Klingelberger ([email protected]) or Erin Faulk ([email protected]). We will then print out the pictures and post them periodically on the bulletin board for everyone in the parish to see.

Life Line Screening
St Bartholomew Catholic Church is pleased to offer a preventive health event. Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on 6/17/2015. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete Also, we are happy to announce that Life Line Screening is working with us to provide our members $10 additional discounts off of a screening package in addition to a $10 donation to St Bartholomew Catholic Church. Please note that you must sign up on either the provided registration sheet (available on the flyers) or by calling the special Helping Hands registration number, which is 1-800-324-9458, in order for us to receive our $10 donation as well. If you prefer to visit the exclusive Helping Hands website to register, you may do so by visiting www.helpinghandsforhealth.com.
