Torrington High School Academics
At Torrington High School, students have many different opportunities to challenge themselves to grow academically through various classes. We even offer UConn ECE courses, which allow students to join the UConn community and earn college credit while still in high school. Not only does THS offer core
courses that provide students with a strong foundation, but we also offer
numerous elective courses. These courses are a great way to explore your interests, such as the arts, technology or even woodworking, in a school setting,
as well as explore possible career paths.
At Torrington High School, there are numerous opportunities for students. For those interested in in the military, we offer a great Air Force Junior ROTC program that promotes self respect and influences students to become better citizens. Not only do students have success and opportunities while at THS, many have been accepted into Ivy League schools, military academies,many other fine aprestigious institutions across the country.
Community EventsStudents at Torrington High School are involved in projects that help explore the community. One project is Empty Bowls, which students in ceramics classes handcraft bowls which are sold and used in a fund raiser to benefit local soup kitchens. Leo club also raises money for various
organizations. Through our clubs and advisory activities, students can find lots of opportunities to help those in need and go beyond a regular school day.
Extraordinary OpportunitiesThere are many opportunities for the students of Torrington High School to go beyond the school walls. Our school offers various programs such as job
shadowing and Northwestern Connecticut Community College connection. Students are able to earn college credits and observe
various jobs.
The Pride of TorringtonTorrington Public Schools were selected as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) in America for 2016” by the NAMM Foundation for its commitment to music education, marking the 16th consecutive year that the district has received the designation. The band, chorus, jazz band, and orchestra have won many awards for their achievements.
