Thriller

Thriller is a broad genre of film which has many subcategories within it. It uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements.

Thrillers heavily stimulate the viewer's moods giving them a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, surprise, anxiety and sometimes terror.

A thriller is a villain-driven plot, whereby he or she presents obstacles that the protagonist must overcome.

More likely to be based upon reality, which is how fear is conveyed as the idea is that it could happen to anyone.

The plot lines are generally very complex to draw in your attention.

They tend to focus on characters more and the main problem, rather than action such as car chases or explosions. 

Target audiences is both genders, aged around 18 - 30 years old.

Some directors have begun to challenge generic conventions and use females for lead roles (such Quentin Tarantino in his film ‘Kill Bill’, and Niels Arden Oplev in ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’)

Action Adventure

In action adventure films, usually one or more heroes is thrust into a series of challenges that require physical feats, extended fights and frenetic chases. They tend to feature a resourceful character struggling against incredible odds, which may involve life-threatening situations, an evil villain, or being pursued, with victory achieved at the end after difficult physical efforts and violence.

Story and character development are generally secondary to explosions, fist fights, gunplay and car chases, contrasting to thrillers.

Action Adventure

They contain characters that seem to break the laws of physics. Many include superheroes.

The target audience for this genre is mostly aimed at boys aged 12 – 18. It appeals to the video game fanatics and the fantasies of the storyline.
