INTRODUCTION

• The thriller genre is a broad genre what tends to overlap into many different other types of genres

• They are usually fast paced and have frequent action

• Thrillers also usually have a villain and hero in the storyline

• To keep the audience interested in thriller films, there tend to be surprises and red herrings which misled the audience into thinking something what is later revealed in the film to be incorrect

DIFFERENT TYPES OF THRILLERS

• Spy thrillers (generally government involved)

• Political thrillers

• Military thrillers

• Conspiracy thrillers

• Medical thrillers

• Religious thrillers

• Forensic thrillers

• Psychological thrillers

• Disaster thrillers

• Legal thrillers

• Supernatural thrillers

CHARACTERISTICS OF THRILLERS

• Thrillers usually overlap with mystery genre (this tends to be criminal mystery e.g. a murder)

• They normally have a mass murder which creates a big story

• There is confrontation used in thrillers

• All thrillers have a similar storyline which is that they all have cliff-hangers or that the villain dies

• American thrillers have a bigger budget, therefore are less realistic and cost more

• British thrillers tend to be more realist

• Thrillers are usually set and take place in exotic areas
