Research CentersResearch Center Program MissionWichita State University, Center of Excellence for Composites and Advanced Materials
To provide the nation with a center for the validation and quality assurance of composites and advanced materials to be applied in the construction of aircraft through: (1) research, testing, certification and technology transfer; (2) coordination and cooperation with the FAA, aircraft manufacturers, materials suppliers and airline companies; and (3) education of the aircraft manufacturing and maintenance workforces.
Wichita State University, National Center for Advanced Materials Performance
To provide the nation with a center for the validation and quality assurance of composites and advanced materials to be applied in the commercial and military aviation industry through (a) data-sharing among multiple users, (b) statistical continuity from one length-scale to another and (c) reduced testing via increased capability and use of numerical/analytical simulation tools.
Via Christi Regional Medical Center, Orthopaedic Research Institute
Research: Application of engineering methods, techniques, and procedures to the solution of problems in clinical orthopaedics; resulting in new devices, systems, materials, and procedures. Further, the application of biocompatibility testing using cutting edge in vitro and in vivo model systems to enhance safety assessments.Development: Applied research in the laboratory and in clinical settings to enhance the understanding of orthopaedic-musculoskeletal diseases, their prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Also, pre-clinical evaluation of pharmaceutical drugs and biological response modifiers for the treatment of arthritis and bone disease
Pittsburg State University, Kansas Polymer Research Center
Established in 1994 to carry out research in the polymer/plastics area and to complement the educational program offerings in the College of Technology. The PSU Polymer Lab is primarily engaged in applied research. The mission of the Polymer R&D Lab is to help clients solve development and production problems in the field of polymers and plastics.
