About INFLIBNET

About Workshop

Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) is an autonomous Inter-University Centre of the University

Grants Commission (UGC). The objectives of the Centre are to modernize libraries and information centres

for information transfer and access, to support scholarship, learning and academic pursuit by establishing a

national network of libraries and information centres in universities, institutions of higher learning and R &

D institutions in India. Creation of national union database (IndCat), development of an integrated library

management software (SOUL 2.0), human resource development, on-site training, providing

bibliographic information services, extending technical help and guidance from time to time to academic

libraries in automation and networking are some of the major activities of the Centre. The Centre provides

access to e-resources to universities under the UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium. The Centre also

provides access to 6500+ e-journals and 97,000+ e-books to the colleges in India though programme

titled "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)".

Joomla is one of the open source content management system available in the market. It is an award-

winning content management system (CMS), which enables users to build library web sites, portals and

blogs. Many aspects, including its ease to use interface and extensibility, have made Joomla the most

popular web site building software available at zero cost. Best of all, Joomla is an open source CMS with

backend in MYSQL and server side scripting in PhP. The INFLIBNET Centre is organising three day

th thworkshop on Content Management System using Joomla during April 08 -10 , 2015 at INFLIBNET

Centre, Gandhinagar. The workshop includes lectures as well as extensive hands-on training which will

provide both theoretical as well as practical exposure to the participants. The participants will get fair idea

with ability to develop their own library website. The workshop will provide extensive training on

installation, configuration, creation of menus and content as well as changing the themes. Moreover, the

workshop will help participants in creating multi-lingual websites using Joomla.

Following topics will be covered in the workshop

Ø?Introduction to Content Management System;

Ø?Joomla: fundamentals and features (Theory);

Ø?Installation and configuration of web server (XAMPP/WAMP);

ØJoomla installations and basic configurations (theory and practices);

ØBasic configuration in php, css and html for template customization in Joomla;

ØIntroduction to control panel and different options available for Administrator;

ØCreating Articles, Menus, Sub-Menus and Contents;

ØAdding modules and plug-ins;

ØUser and Content Management;

ØManaging Articles, layouts and themes;

ØAdvanced concepts – Multilingual website, Discussion Forum; and

ØWebsite hosting & backup

Eminent experts of LIS profession from within INFLIBNET as well as external experts working in the field.

Library professionals working in university/colleges who are interested in developing a website/portal for

their library, students, information scientists, system administrator, content developer and others with

similar domain.

Participants should be conversant with basic ICT terminologies, should possess basic skills such as HTML,

CSS, etc.

The Training programme will be conducted at Information and Library Network Centre, An IUC of

UniversityGrants Commission, Infocity, Gandhinagar-382007, Gujarat, India.

The registration fee is ̀ 3,000.00 (Rupees Three Thousand only) per person without accommodation and

` 5,000.00 (Rupees twenty two thousand only) with accommodation and @12.36% service tax extra as

applicable on registration fee and accommodation charges. It covers the cost of training programme kit

containing training materials, breakfast, lunch and dinner during the training period. The payment should be

made through Demand Draft in favour of INFLIBNET Centre payable at Gandhinagar along with filled-in

registration form. Fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
