October 2012: A Message from the CEO As Hope volunteers, you know that our work is a calling – a passion that is rewarded with warm smiles, notes of appreciation and, most importantly, the satisfaction that we have helped someone in need. Working together we fulfill our very important mission. Every day we are asked how Hope can help. We have developed a special plan to help us better reach out to people in need. We will be more easily able to share our passion with those outside of Hope. There are many people in our community who need comforting care and it is our goal to give them Hope. The campaign called “Give Hope” has just been launched and you will hear more about it in the near future. Through this affirmation of our programs, I believe that we will all feel more confident about sharing information and reaching out to everyone who needs our care. Just imagine how many lives we will touch when 2,000 volunteers and staff members begin sharing messages of Hope throughout our community. Each of us serves as an ambassador of Hope – empowered to make a difference in the lives of those around us. In the coming weeks, you will receive more information and tools to help you Give Hope to others. It will be rewarding for us to see what our organization can do when we all reach out to our community. Thank you for all that you do. Samira K. October 2012: A Message from the CEO

As Hope volunteers, you know that our work is a calling – a passion that is rewarded with warm smiles, notes of appreciation and, most importantly, the satisfaction that we have helped someone in need.

Hope Volunteer Stories Hardcover Book AvailableDozens of volunteers contributed stories of their experiences at Hope for a special collection that has been made into a hardcover book. To learn more about purchasing a copy, please contact Bob Sheehan at 489-9188. Below is one of the stories featured in the book:

An amazing thing happened one day at Hospice House, although those of us who were fortunate enough to witness the event were not surprised. A man in one of the rooms was in a coma. A beautiful black and yellow swallowtail butterfly flew into the room and lit on his shoulder. Whenever someone would come into the room to change linens or check on him, the butterfly would fly to the corner of the ceiling. As soon as the person left, the butterfly flew back to sit on the man’s shoulder. I understand this event lasted two days until the man passed away.-by Hope Volunteer Betty Galvano
