INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL DAY
SATURDAY, JULY 30
How You Can Help:
On Saturday, July 30, we will have an
opportunity to share Christ’s love with people from around the world. That is the day we
serve lunch and offer Bibles to the Folkmoot
Dancers.
You can volunteer to help with food prepa-
ration, set up, serving the food and clean up.
8:00am—10:00am—Prepare Food
11:30am—1:30pm—Serve Food
1:00pm—2:00pm—Clean Up
Pray that the dancer’s learn of Christ’s love.
If you have any questions or want to help
with lunch call Nancy Fish at 828-768-1344.
You can also make a donation to help
offset the cost of the food and Bibles by in-cluding a separate check with your regular
offering and/or leave a cash donation in the church office by July 15-cash donations will be used to purchase food at the
Farmer’s Market.

Please continue to donate food this sum-
mer. Any and all non-perishable food is ac-
cepted and is given to the Food Pantry at
Haywood Christian Ministry. Families of
the very children our church helped at
Waynesville Middle School may be depend-
ing on Haywood Christian Ministry for food
during the summer months. Place your generous donations of
food in the boxes provided in the fireplace area. Thank you for
your faithfulness in ending hunger in our community!

Red Clover is the State Flower of VERMONT
We’ve had a tremendous week of Vacation Bible
School (VBS)! Each year I’m blessed and amazed at all
the hard work that goes into our VBS efforts. Lisa Fleenor, Faith Woods, and all our other workers do a tre-
mendous job transforming our Ministry Activity Center
into a bright, colorful, wonderful children’s learning area.
All our workers do a great job of teaching as well.
As I’ve watched young children and their parents
this week, I’ve been reminded of how important it is to reach them with the good news of Jesus Christ. The reli-
gious landscape of our country is changing rapidly. The
Pew Research Center reports that just in the 7 years be-
tween 2007 and 2014, the number of people claiming to
be Christians in our county declined by nearly 8%. While
we evangelicals did better than Churches as a whole, we declined by nearly 5%.
Where are those people going? While we think
they’re going to other religious groups, they aren’t. The
number of people saying that that they hold to non-
Christian faiths grew by only about 1%. The group that
grew was the “Unaffiliated,” including atheists, agnostics, and the like. It grew by nearly 7%.
When you study the numbers further, you find
that the change isn’t evenly distributed. What’s happen-
ing is “Generational Replacement.” 85% of people born
between 1928 and 1945 claim to be Christian. But
among those born between 1990 and 1996, that number is 56%. Those born in those years are called
“Millennials.”
I don’t know the statistics for Haywood County.
They probably aren’t quite as dire as those nationally,
but I imagine they’re not too far off. Our Millennials tell me that many of their peers see no need for church at all.
This is why our efforts at children’s ministry and
reaching younger people are so important. When you’re
in our worship services, particularly when we start our
new schedule, be on the lookout for younger people. Talk
to them, engage them, and let them know how glad you are that they’re here!
See you Sunday!
Robert
