  • 3/4 NEWS As Term 2 comes to a close, 3/4H has finally got some completed dragon sculptures appearing in the classroom. They have taken all term but it was worth it. The 3/4 Heroes have come up with many great sculptural ideas to represent dragons in a variety of forms. All of them have a wire frame. Some of them have been sculpted completely from wire, other students have used plasticine and others have used fabric in creative ways. When’s the art exhibition this year? Mr Hieke

    COURAGE TO CARE EXHIBITION

On Tuesday 18 June, our 5/6 class attended the Courage to Care travelling exhibition at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery. This is a student-centred program conveying the messages of social tolerance and of living in harmony. It emphasises the importance of standing up to racism, persecution and any form of prejudice. The World War II Holocaust is used as an example of a time when ordinary people had the courage to care and helped Jewish people to escape the Nazi regime, despite great danger to themselves and their families. Hinton students visited an exhibition of artefacts relating to this time in history, met Holocaust survivors who shared their stories, and discussed what they could do to stand up to bullying and discrimination today. I was extremely proud of our students who listened respectfully and showed a high level of empathy, understanding and curiosity. On several occasions I was complimented on the behaviour of our children which is always great to hear! Well done 5/6 and thanks to the parents who assisted in transporting them to and from the venue. If you can, please take the time to visit the exhibition yourselves during the holidays as it is a very worthwhile and enlightening experience. The following video on one of the Courage to care heroes we heard about, Sir Nicholas Winton, is also extremely interesting to watch.
