What is S.W.A.RSouth West Animal

Rescue is a not for profit organisation

based in Bunbury, in the south west of Western

Australia. We are a charitable organisation, managed and operated by

dedicated volunteers. No one receives a salary or wage.

Our activities are motivated by the fundamental understanding that all animals are entitled to the same love and respect that they unconditionally give to us. South West Animal Rescue was established in November 2006 to address the lack of an animal shelter in the Bunbury area.

The primary goal of South West Animal Rescue is to rescue abandoned domestic animals, usually from pounds and vet clinics, foster them into homes temporarily while we look for their “forever home”. Since our establishment in November 2006 SWAR has saved over 700 domestic animals from euthanasia as well as rehoming a large number of dogs and cats who have been

surrendered to us.

Cats and KittensIf you’re a cat lover and want to help stray, abandoned and orphaned cats of Bunbury then please consider opening up your heart and your home to foster a cat or kitten.

As a foster carer you would look after the animal until a permanent home is found. All they need is your time and love.

To be a foster carer you need to meet the following criteria:• Have previous

experience with cats (although not essential)

• Own your own home or if renting, provide a letter from the landowner stating that you are permitted to have pets, and be able to either keep the cats/kittens indoors or in a cat run.

• If you currently have pets they must get along with other animals and have their vaccinations up to date.

• Be willing to allow perspective owners to visit the animal at your place of residence at a time that suits you.

• Take payment and have prospective owners fill out adoption forms if

needed, and then return said forms and money to the

coordinator.

How Can You Help?

HOW TO HELP

South West Animal Rescue operates entirely on volunteers. We are always seeking and welcoming people who are interested in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of abandoned domestic animals. From foster caring to fundraising, attending meetings and markets, SWAR has a role for you.

FOSTER CARERS

Caring for animals in your own home until they are ready for re-homing. This is a fantastic way to assist and a perfect way to have the love and enjoyment from a dog, cat, puppy, kitten or even rabbit, without taking on the lifetime responsibility. SWAR provides all vet work and where possible food donations. You will just need to open up your heart and homes to one of our loving animals.

VOLUNTEERS

Many volunteer roles are available. Our committee meets on a monthly basis. Guests are always welcome and there is no pressure to join, we just like to see new faces! Our volunteers assist at market days around Bunbury, perfect if you love to talk as people are always interested in finding out what we do. Perhaps you enjoy baking? SWAR volunteers bake dog biscuits to assist with fundraising. The list is endless, but we need volunteers to remain sustainable.

• Pet food/accessories - we give these to our foster carers who

voluntarily take in and care for our animals

• Volunteers for fundraising stalls

• Committee members to join our dedicated group of

volunteers who keep South West Animal Rescue running

• Placement of donation tins to help raise much needed funds

• Volunteers to make hand made items such as pet

blankets/beds/collars/etc.
