Infosys went publicin 1993. Interestingly, Infosys IPO was under subscribed butit wasbailed outby US investment bankerMorgan Stanley which picked up 13% of equity attheoffer price ofRs. 95 per share.[8] The share price surged to Rs. 8,100 by 1999. By the year

2000 Infosys's shares touched Rs. 110 before the catastrophic incident ofSeptember 11th,changed allthat.[9]

According to Forbes magazine, since listing on theBombay Stock Exchangetillthe year

2000, Infosys' sales and earnings compounded at more than 70% a year.[10]

In the year 2000,President ofthe United StatesBillClinton complimented India on its achievements in high

technology areas citing the example of Infosys.[11]

Infosys willinvest $100 million (Rs 440crore) on establishing a 20,000-seater campus in Shanghai.

In 2001, it was ratedBest Employer in India by Business Today.[13] Infosys was rated bestemployerto work forin 2000, 2001, and 2002 by Hewitt Associates. In 2007, Infosysreceived over 1.3 million applications and hired fewerthan 3% of applicants.[14]

In 1996, Infosys created the Infosys Foundationin the state ofKarnataka, operating in theareas ofhealth care, social rehabilitation and rural uplift, education, arts and culture. Since 2004, Infosys has embarked on a series ofinitiatives to consolidate and formalize itsacademic relationships worldwide underthe umbrella of a program called AcE - AcademicEntente.

components ofthe Academic Entente initiative. It offers live projects to interns from theuniversities around the world. InStep recruits undergraduate, graduate and PhD students from

business, technology, and liberal arts universities to take partin an 8 to 24 weekinternship atone of Infosys' global offices. InStep interns are also provided career opportunities withInfosys.

In 1997, Infosys started the "Catch them Young Program", to expose the urban youth to theworld of Information Technology by conducting a summer vacation program. The program isaimed at developing an interest and understanding ofcomputer science and informationtechnology. This program is targeted at students in Grade IX level.[20]

In 2002, the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and Infosys startedthe Wharton Infosys Business Transformation Award. This technology award recognizesenterprises and individuals who have transformed their businesses and the society leveraging

information technology. Past winners include Samsung, Amazon.com, Capital One, RBS andING Direct.

Infosys has the largest corporate education center in the world in Mysore. It canaccommodate 14000 candidates at one time.[21]

Infosys's intranet, called "Sparsh" after the Sanskrit word meaning "touch," supports over114,822 employees across 26 countries in which Infosys operates. Sparsh has today becomethe company's primary channel for news and official information, created a communication

platform and opened up networking avenues for its employees.

In 2007, Sparsh was selected as one of "The Year's 10 Best Intranets" by theNielsen NormanGroup, a user experience research firm that advises companies on human-centered productand service design.[23] Infosys is the first Indian company to be selected for the group'sIntranet Design Annual Award.

Infosys developed a corporate R&D wing called Software Engineering and Technology Labs(SETLabs). SETLabs was founded in 2000 to carry out applied research for the developmentof processes, frameworks and methodologies to effectively capture customer requirementsand to iron out common critical issues during a project life cycle.[24] Various broad groups areSoftware Engg Lab, Convergence Lab, Innovation Lab, Center for KDIS, Security andPrivacy Lab and Distributed Computing Lab.

In 2005, Infosys donated 10m rupees (about $226,000) to help with the effects of the 2005Kashmir earthquake in Pakistan.[25] Infosys does not currently have an office in Pakistan.

HistoryInfosys was founded on July 2, 1981 in Pune by N. R. Narayana Murthy and six

Dinesh and Ashok Arora,[4] with N. S. Raghavan officially being the first employee

of the company. Murthy started the company by borrowing INR 10,000 from his

wife Sudha Murthy. The company was incorporated as "Infosys Consultants Pvt

Ltd.", with Raghavan's house in Model Colony, north-central Pune as theregistered office.

In 1982, Infosys opened an office in Bangalore which soon became its
