would like to alert all parishioners to be

aware of an e-mail scam being spread

within our parishes where an e-mail,

supposedly from the “Pastor”, is sent requesting

gift cards. This e-mail has been sent to Parish Staff and

Parishioners. Please delete these e-mails immediately

without opening any attachments. Such a request would

never come through an e-mail.

pound bags of sugar for the Thanksgiving Baskets

Missions. Our goal is to collect at least 200 bags

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN is the program used by our diocese to care for our children and make them safe in our churches and church buildings. One of the directives given to us by our bishop is that no child may be anywhere in our buildings without adult supervision. Therefore, when your children need to leave Mass for the bathroom we ask that you accompany them. No child should be in the bathrooms alone or with other children without an adult present.

The pastoral team of the cluster of

parishes invites you to welcome Frater

Long Nguyen, SCJ. Pronounced Fra-ter

with a high pitched a as in Ah, and ter like

you would say turf you would say (frah-

tur)! Frater is the title of a professed

religious discerning a vocation to the

priesthood. A native of Louisiana, he is no stranger to the south.

Frater Long comes to us from the Dehon House of Studies in

Hales Corners, WI. Frater Long and Fr. Greg entered the

seminary together in 2003. Frater Long and Fr. Greg celebrated

the joyous occasion of professing their final vows in October

2010. After years of working as a religious brother in a variety

of ministries, including vocation ministry, Frater Long pursued

a new vocation of his own by discerning the possibility of

becoming a priest which prompted him to return to school to

pursue studies for the priesthood. After completing his

academic studies this past spring, Frater Long participated in a

Spanish immersion in Guatemala. Now it is with great joy that

we welcome Frater Long to Mississippi to pursue a variety of

parish ministries. Please pray for Frater Long as he works with

us this year discerning his vocation to the priesthood.

El equipo pastoral de todas nuestras parroquias les invita a dar la bienvenida a Frater Long Nguyen, SCJ. Frater es

un título religioso profeso que discierne una vocación al

sacerdocio. Nacido en Louisiana, Frater Long viene desde el

Centro Dehon en Hales Corners, WI. Frater Long y el padre

Greg ingresaron al seminario en 2003 y profesaron sus votos en

el 2010. Después de años de trabajar como hermano religioso

en varios ministerios, incluido el vocacional, Frater Long ahora

sigue una nueva vocación con la posibilidad de convertirse en sacerdote. Al completar sus estudios académicos la primavera

pasada, Frater Long participó en una inmersión en español en

Guatemala. Con gran alegría le damos la bienvenida a Frater

A CALL TO HOLINESS

BY POPE FRANCIS

110. Within the framework of holiness offered

by the Beatitudes and Matthew 25:31-46, I would like to

mention a few signs or spiritual attitudes that, in my

opinion, are necessary if we are to understand the way of

life to which the Lord calls us. I will not pause to explain

the means of sanctification already known to us: the

various methods of prayer, the inestimable sacraments of

the Eucharist and Reconciliation, the offering of personal

sacrifices, different forms of devotion, spiritual direction,

and many others as well. Here I will speak only of certain

aspects of the call to holiness that I hope will prove

especially meaningful.

111. The signs I wish to highlight are not the sum total of

a model of holiness, but they are five great expressions of

love for God and neighbour that I consider of particular

importance in the light of certain dangers and limitations

present in today’s culture. There we see a sense of

anxiety, sometimes violent, that distracts and debilitates;

negativity and sullenness; the self-content bred by

consumerism; individualism; and all those forms of ersatz

spirituality – having nothing to do with God – that

dominate the current religious marketplace.

LLAMADO A LA SANTIDAD

POR EL PAPA FRANCISCO

110. Dentro del gran marco de la santidad que nos

proponen las bienaventuranzas y Mateo 25,31-46,

quisiera recoger algunas notas o expresiones espirituales

que, a mi juicio, no deben faltar para entender el estilo de

vida al que el Señor nos llama. No me detendré a explicar

los medios de santificación que ya conocemos: los

distintos métodos de oración, los preciosos sacramentos

de la Eucaristía y la Reconciliación, la ofrenda de

sacrificios, las diversas formas de devoción, la dirección

espiritual, y tantos otros. Solo me referiré a algunos

aspectos del llamado a la santidad que espero resuenen de

modo especial.

111. Estas notas que quiero destacar no son todas las que

pueden conformar un modelo de santidad, pero son cinco

grandes manifestaciones del amor a Dios y al prójimo que

considero de particular importancia, debido a algunos

riesgos y límites de la cultura de hoy. En ella se

manifiestan: la ansiedad nerviosa y violenta que nos

dispersa y nos debilita; la negatividad y la tristeza; la

acedia cómoda, consumista y egoísta; el individualismo, y

tantas formas de falsa espiritualidad sin encuentro con

Dios que reinan en el mercado religioso actual.
