The purpose of this presentation is to provide immigrant parents the
opportunity to discuss some of the standards that parents must meet
in order to reach parental proficiency.
Provide for their children’s physical,
emotional and social needs
Overcome immigrant-
related challenges
Assume an “I can” attitude – victorious vs.
victim
Know that a quality education leads to a
“quality life”
Know the role they need to play in their children’s education
Have high academic expectation for their
children
Know that academic proficiency is the
result of commitment, focus,
feedback and strategy formulation
See “failure” as a source of information on how to get better
Establish a positive and productive
connection with their children’s teachers
Make reading a “life style”
Make homework part of the daily routine
and not a “battle field”
Build a strong character in their
children’s life
