another, and with our community following the example of Jesus
Christ.
GATHERING
PRELUDE
COMMUNITY CONVERSATION & PRAYER REQUESTS
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, who spoke light into creation, who
calls us to listen and follow, who sends us to shine like stars.
C: Amen.
P: Let us come before God, confessing our sin. Holy and merciful God,
C: we confess that we have sinned against our sisters and brothers
and against you. We cherish the values of this world. We cause
others to stumble. The earth is wounded by our excess. Have
mercy, O God. Forgive us, renew us, and raise us up on eagles'
wings, that we may do your will with courage and delight. Amen.
P: Hear the voice from heaven: "You are my own, my beloved." God gives
power to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Be cleansed, be healed,
for in the name of + Jesus Christ, I declare to you the forgiveness of your sins
and the revealing of God's reign.
C: Amen.
WE WELCOME ALL in Christ’s name to our worship service today. All
baptized Christians who believe the bread and wine are the body and blood of
Christ for the forgiveness of sins may receive the sacrament. Communion is by
common cup (for drinking only), or with individual glasses, the center rings are
grape juice and the outer rings are wine. Young persons not yet instructed in
the meaning of the Sacrament are invited forward for a blessing.

WORD
FIRST LESSON Jonah 3:1–5, 10
The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time, saying, 2Get up, go to
Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you. 3So
Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now
Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days' walk across. 4Jonah
began to go into the city, going a day's walk. And he cried out, "Forty days
more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!" 5And the people of Nineveh
believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on
sackcloth.
10When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways,
God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring
upon them; and he did not do it. Word of God, Word of Life.
C: Thanks be to God.
SECOND LESSON 1 Corinthians 7:29–31 29I mean, brothers and sisters, the appointed time has grown short; from now
on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, 30and those
who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as
though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no
possessions, 31and those who deal with the world as though they had no
dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. Word of
God, Word of Life.
C: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia Lord, to Whom Shall We Go?

GOSPEL Mark 1:14–20
P: The holy gospel according to Mark the first chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
P: 14Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the
good news of God, 15and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of
God has come near, repent, and believe in the good news."
16As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his
brother Andrew casting a net into the sea — for they were fishermen. 17And
Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you fish for people." 18And
immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19As he went a little
farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in
their boat mending the nets. 20Immediately he called them; and they left
their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him. This
is the gospel of our Lord.
C: Praise to you O Christ.

SERMON Pastor Kristin Berglund
HYMN OF THE DAY Will You Come and Follow Me ELW # 798
(Red Hymnal)
APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he
descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended
into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will
come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness
of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS (Time for silent prayer & meditation – See Yellow Prayer Sheet)
AM: Lord, in your mercy, C: hear our prayer.
MEAL
THE PEACE
P: The peace of Christ be with you always.
C: And also with you.
10
OFFERING I Offer My Life
11
12
OFFERTORY PRAYER
AM: Let us pray. Merciful God,
C: as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills were gathered
together to become one bread, so let your church be gathered
together from the ends of the earth into your kingdom, for yours is
the glory through Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.
SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Lift up your hearts.
C: We lift them to the Lord.
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in
all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through
our Savior Jesus Christ. By the leading of a star he was shown forth to all
nations; in the waters of the Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son;
and in the miracle of water turned to wine he revealed your glory.
Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In
great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick
and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross,
opened his arms to all.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave
thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my
body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper,
he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is
the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
13
Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await his
coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite
the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of Jesus
Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and
glory, now and forever.
C: Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
P: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us.
C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom
come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our
daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against
us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the
kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.
Amen.

Kits.

TOOTHBRUSHES FOR EL SALVADOR Calling all
(new) toothbrushes!
Time to talk about something we almost never think
about: TOOTHBRUSHES! Our Greater Milwaukee
Synod is planning a Mission of Healing to El Salvador,
including the area of our partner congregation Apostles
of Christ. We want to collect new children’s and adult
toothbrushes (soft bristle) to send along! Picking up an
extra toothbrush at the store is such a small thing to do,
but can have such a big impact in the life of a child or
adult.
We are collecting toothbrushes from now until Sunday, February 1st. That
gives us just over a month, so let’s see how many smiles we can brighten in
El Salvador with new toothbrushes! Look for the “toothy” container in the
Narthex !
WEATHER CANCELLATIONS When it is necessary to cancel services
due to weather this information will be posted on our St. Peter website:
www.stpetersheboygan.com as early as possible after the decision is made
by Pastor Kristin and the Executive Team. The information will also be
communicated in a mass e-mail, when possible, to members we have email
addresses for, and through local TV and radio stations such as WTMJ-4,
WHBL, and WISN.
