Thinking of getting breakdown cover? First Call GB Ltd suggest you have your car serviced first
Many people don’t realise how important it is to have their car serviced before they apply for
breakdown cover from companies such as First Motor GB ltd. Many insurance companies will refuse to provide protection for cars which are not properly maintained.
Particularly during the icy winter months, many people begin to think about purchasing
breakdown cover, under the assumption that they’ll have peace of mind should they find themselves stranded on the motorway. However the fact of the matter is that if you’ve neglected to have your car serviced regularly, you may find yourself unable to find an insurance company
willing to provide you with cover. Even those that offer a policy may not have enough cover to protect you and your car if it breaks down frequently. Many companies have very strict limits on
how many call outs they offer their customers per year; in some instances it can be as low as four or five.
Getting your car serviced on a regular basis is the best way to ensure that you are covered if the
vehicle starts to play up. Furthermore, reports from some of the top breakdown cover companies like First Motor GB have revealed that more than half of all breakdowns could be prevented simply by having a regular servicing done, in addition to conducting weekly checks on the oil
and coolant levels, as well as the tyres.
Sometimes, having your car serviced is included as a condition of the breakdown cover policy; many companies insist that their customers provide proof that they are doing the necessary
checks to make sure that their car is in roadworthy condition. In these cases, the company will not normally ask for receipts of servicing history, but if they find the car to be in very poor condition during a callout, the motorist’s cover may be put in jeopardy. It’s also important that
motorists repair any reoccurring faults, as a number of insurance companies will refuse to repair a car fault which they have already been called out for in the past.
Before signing a breakdown cover agreement, make sure to check whether or not the coverage
imposes a limit on the amount of call outs per year, and enquire about what will happen if you go over that limit. With some breakdown insurance companies, you’ll have to pay a set amount per
extra call out, which could range from between 60 to 100 pounds. Other companies provide unlimited call outs; for those with temperamental cars, this may be the best option. The call out limit is also sometimes based on the breakdown package you choose; for more information on
which one might be right for you, get in touch with an insurance company such as First Motor GB Ltd.
