Going off on a sunny holiday somewhere? Or a longweekend away? Lucky you! But who will look after yourpet?

Holidays are great fun, but you'll need to consider what willhappen to your pet when you're away. Do you have friendsor family nearby that will be able to care for them? Arethere kennels or catteries in your local area you can use?

If you are planning to have children soon, will thatimpact your ability to care for a pet?

Starting a family is so exciting but of course it's a hugechange. For example, you might find you no longer have asmuch time to walk your dog, play with your cat, or cleanout your guinea pigs. You may also struggle with the cost ofa newborn and a pet.

Can you afford vet bills, pet insurance, pet food and accessory costs?

Many animals come to us because their owner canno longer afford to keep them. This isn't alwaysdown to expensive vet bills. Sometimes it's just thedaily costs of having a pet that people cannotafford.

What can you expect from a rescue animal?

All of the animals in our care are unique and have differentbackgrounds. Some have been through very tough timesand may need time to learn to love and trust someoneagain. So you may need to show a lot of patience in thebeginning with your new pet, but trust us it's well worth thewait!

These are just some of the important questions you need to think aboutbefore adopting.

Moving house or doing renovations soon?

If you’re moving or doing work to your home in the next 6months, we recommend you wait until after you've donethis before rehoming. Particularly with dogs, as it can takeseveral months for a rescue to completely settle in withit's new home and family. Changes in your new pet’senvironment can be very stressful for them.
