Thank Thank YouYou
“I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to the QVCC Foundation for their continued support of QVCC and its students. Because of the generosity of the Foundation and their donors, I have been awarded the opportunity to graduate from QVCC debt-free. Moreover, it has always been my academic goal upon graduating from QVCC to attend the University of Connecticut and complete a bachelor’s de-gree. I now have the chance to continue my academic career and complete this goal because of the support and assistance of the QVCC Foundation.Thank you for this opportunity.”

Christian SarantopoulosPresident, The QVCC Foundation
Dr. Carlee DrummerPresident, Quinebaug Valley Community College
For the past two years, I have been blessed to serve as President of the QVCC Foundation and witness the incredible generosity of the people of Northeast Connecticut who truly understand the value of a Quinebaug Valley Community College education. Thanks to your generosity:
• The class of 2017 was the seventh class in a row to earn their degrees without any federal debt
• $135,000 in scholarships were given to deserving students
• $85,000 in block grants were provided to financial aid and continuing education offices
The best part of my role as President has been to be able to say “thank you” to all who have made the accomplishments of the Foundation possible over the last two years - my fellow board members, our wonderful volunteers and staff, our talented Executive Director, and most important, you. You are the people and the businesses of Northeast Connecticut who continue to support the Foundation’s primary mission to ensure that each and every resi-dent of our community has the opportunity to attend QVCC regardless of income. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the students at QVCC whose lives are made better through your donations and generosity, thank you!
What are we doing here? We’re reaching for the stars.--Christa McAuliffe
Our world is changing in ways that few of us could have predicted just one year ago. Yet, in spite of the uncertain times, the Quinebaug Valley Community College Foundation con-tinues to thrive.
Through the commitment of hundreds of donors who believe in the mission of QVCC, the Foundation made it possible for the College to reach new heights – from providing vital scholarship support to 230 students to enriching the learning and working environment for all members of our community.
Advancing the College lies at the core of the QVCC Foundation’s mission, and your support this year truly made a difference, helping us educate people of all ages from diverse back-grounds who seek a better life. Indeed this is a time to be glad of heart and justifiably proud that community colleges finally are being recognized for the work that we do together to make a better country and a better world.
As Jill Biden, Professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College, observes, “Community college students enter the classroom from many different educational, economic, and cultural perspectives . . . but the community college system puts them on the same path of opportunity, giving them a sense of confidence that they can achieve what they set out to achieve, and a marketable skill that will enable them to do it.”
Through this Annual Report, I invite you to experience how your gifts have afforded the “path of opportunity” for stu-dents to secure a promising future by beginning or continuing their education at QVCC. Thanks to your vision and commitment, we can inspire them to reach for the sky and accomplish the impossible. In the words of Langston Hughes, “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.”

$40,000 raised at our 3rd annual Tackle the Trail!
This annual event was founded in 2010 to provide Quinebaug Valley Community College students, faculty, staff and community members the opportunity to listen to and learn from a person of national recognition.
On March 23rd, 2017, a sold-out audience gathered to hear Waniya Locke and Jessye Stein speak on the instrumental roles they played in the No Dakota Access Pipeline (#NoDAPL) Movement. Guests enjoyed dinner, drinks and a silent auction.

Dr. Frank Aleman, professor emeritus of business, taught at QVCC for thirty-seven years. Frank inspired his students to pursue their educational goals. This year, Frank chose to endow a scholarship because he experienced first-hand the life changing opportunities scholarships can make in a student’s life, when he received a scholarship that changed his own. The QVCC Foundation expresses our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Aleman for his generous support.
