Dear parents and carers, Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter and I hope you all managed to enjoy some family time together during the half-term holiday. Before the break we held our Presentation Evening for Years 8-11 and it was a great opportunity to celebrate our students’ many successes. Certificates and trophies were presented for academic, sporting and musical achievements as well as attendance and the keenly contested Athletics Day Trophy was also awarded. We listened to some fantastic performances from our Lower School Choir and we were also delighted to welcome our guest speaker Kara Foley, from the National Citizen Service, who talked about the role that volunteering had played in her life. Thankyou and well done to our Deputy Head Boy Febi and Deputy Head Girl Alyssa who gave the vote of thanks at the end of the evening. Thanks to all the parents, carers and families who came along on the night and it was lovely to see so many of you there to support your children. We have an extremely busy term ahead of us and you can find out more about what’s going on in school through our newsletter, website and Twitter feed @StBenedictDerby. We also have a Facebook page now so please like and share the page if you can. Among the events coming up is our Sixth Form Open Evening on November 9th from 6pm to 9pm. Our Sixth Form has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and really is going from strength to strength. We were delighted to see the percentage of A/A* grades rise again this year up to 14.1 per cent. A total of 42 per cent of grades were A*-B and 69 per cent A*-C with an overall pass rage of 98 per cent. We had 100 per cent success rate with university applications and 20 per cent of our students achieved places at prestigious Russell Group universities. We were thrilled that two of our students, Joe Smith and George Lee, secured places at Cambridge University. Joe achieved three A* and a B and is studying Natural Science and George achieved three A* and is taking French and Russian. Just one change to make you aware of which is that school bus services 234, 239, 240, 255, 261 and 433 will be arriving five minutes earlier at their stops in the morning so please make your children aware of this.
