What’s   New   @   the   Pink   House   on   Pearl?! ! ! ! ! An update !om the Facility Board

A lot! We had an unexpected early departure of the previously announced House Mom just after Recruitment. To fill the gap some very special women quickly stepped in; Robin Cox, Facility Corp Board member, Karen Douglas, Jaymie Richard’s mother and the much loved former Facility Director Tena Broyles. On behalf of everyone involved with the chapter THANK YOU for staying at the house through the transition.

A new Facility Director, Patsy Fall, was recently hired and is already making herself at home with the chapter. Patsy previously held the Facility Director position for Sigma Phi Epsilon at MSU and has a strong background in property management. Patsy also has a keen eye for and a passion of fine antiques.

Patsy Fall is sitting on one of the chairs newly reupholstered this summer in the Trophy Room which is adjacent to the house entrance.

There were lots of other improvement projects completed over the summer. These included the addition of a deep countertop in the Lanai providing additional study space, a buffet area during Recruitment, and much more. The House Director’s apartment also had a significant remodel that included an entirely new bathroom including granite countertops and a built-in desk in the apartment.

The biggest project was the Red Room!  The room has all new furniture.  It looks great and also provides more study space.  The Facility Corp. Board worked very closely with the Chapter on all the furniture and finish

selections during the last Academic year.  The new look was “unveiled” this fall semester.  The FCB thanks the Chapter for their input and generous donation which covered the majority of the final room cost. It was a great experience for everyone and the girls are enjoying the new space.  We are already working with the Chapter on our next projects.

The women of Alpha Theta have been doing great things! We should be very proud of the women in the chapter. Here are some of their most recent accomplishments:

• Jenna Milani was selected as a Truman Scholar candidate. She competed with hundreds of others exceptional scholars from universities nationwide. Jenna was one of only 12 selected for a final interview in Fort Worth.

• Jessica Schwartz graduated in May and is attending Baylor School of Law.• Lindsey Moreland’s marketing proposal was selected by L’Oreal Cosmetics for presentation in New York

City, and then was selected to further present at its Paris headquarters.• CoCo Zentner and a fellow art student participated in an idea proposal which was funded by the U. T.

fine arts department. Their idea was chosen, and they went to New York City to interview a famous sculpture artist and visit a prestigious museum including their key operations personnel, and Sotheby’s Auction House. Their goal was an investigation into different commercial possibilities in the art field.

• Meredith Shank was selected for an internship with Christie’s Auction House last summer. • Marinna Seal enriched her experience with the architecture and artistic wonders in Italy by way of U.T.’s

valued fine arts course.• Three of the house girls, Janie DeVilbiss, Abby Spalding and Marissa Gaudet, are in the outstanding U. T.

College of Nursing.• Samantha Fuller graduated in May with a Petroleum Engineering degree.• Megan Wolfram was honored as Theta of the Year. Megan will participate in Teach for America in Dallas

next year.• Senior Kirby Cornelius is the new captain of the University of Texas Women’s lacrosse team. She is a

great player, and the perfect candidate for captain—we are so proud of her! • Sophomore, Brette Machiorlette, has a nonprofit organization that has really been kicking off. Her

organization, Reading Aces, is an after school program where high school and college volunteers help at-risk children improve their literary skills. Chapter members are volunteering with this great organization.

Alpha %eta Spotlights:

Parents’ Weekend was September 21-22. About 250-300 people participated throughout the weekend, which included a brunch in the house’s courtyard, attending the Texas vs. Kansas State football game, and lots of good visiting. Special thanks to Beryl and Jessica in the kitchen for making such delicious meals and snacks.

Theta Block Party 2013

The 3rd Annual Theta Block Party and Raffle will be held on November 8 from 5-8:30 p.m at the Alpha Theta House. Block Party benefits Travis County CASA, and we are excited to be a part of it. Highlights of the Theta Block Party will include a raffle, local food trailers, live music, and more.

Travis County CASA, our philanthropic partner, supports over 1,000 abused and neglected children in the court houses annua"y. Thetas make gi#s for these children, participate in volunteer activities, gain support, and raise money through the annual Pancake Party and Block Party. This year we can’t wait to get more support for CASA than ever before.

In order to make this event and raffle the best it can be, the actives need your help! CASA means so much to the Thetas and they hope to reach their goal to raise $15,000, as well as have 75% alumnae participation, through the Theta Block Party and Raffle.
