ABSTRACT

Page 4: Thesis portfolio_ Rohit jain

Transcripts always resuppose a reality already in existences, a reality waiting to be deconstructed and eventually transformed. The transcripts take elements from the city. Role of the transcript is never torepresent, they are not mimetic. They are very subjective.Reality of its sequences does not lie in the accurate transposition of the outside world, but in the internal of the outside world, but in the internal logic these sequences display. It attempts to play with the fragments of the given reality at the same time as the rational structure of abstract concepts.Transcript favors those activities generally considered negative and unproductive; mourning’s, wars, cults etc.

My experiences there fortified a conviction that architecture must address seemingly intractable problems like these,

First of all, because buildings were damaged or lost, and this directly impacts people’s lives.

It’s not hypothetical. They have to be repaired, rebuilt. Secondly,

the attack on Mumbai the attack on Mumbai was an attack on civilization. The aggressors wanted to destroy its urbanity, its tolerance, its complexity, its cosmopolitan spirit. So, it was an attack on the idea of the city, and therefore on cities everywhere.. If we, as architects, ignored it, we would be ill-equipped

to deal with the same sort of attack when it fell upon our city.I don’t think so. It is just architecture doing what it is

supposed to do—dealing with supposed to do—dealing with human conditions and problems.

Page 13: Thesis portfolio_ Rohit jain

My theory was clear: the siege, and the sixty-hours long war, changed everything. Socialism was out, and an uncertain privatization was in. The city was losing its ethnic diversityThe infrastructure of utilities and services was severely damaged,Buildings vital to the social and economic functioning of the city wwere damaged More than all this, the people of the city had suffered hours of deprivation, terror, and uncertainty, and many would be transformed by it.

A wound is a type of injury in which skin is torn, cut, or punctured (an open wound), or where blunt force trauma causes a contusion (a closed wound). In pathology, it specifically refers to a sharp injury which damages the dermis of the skin.

Wounds can be classified according to the object that caused the wound. The types of wound are:

Incisions or Cut wounds, caused by a clean, sharp-edged object such as a knife, razor, or glass splinter.

Lacerations, irregular tear-like wounds caused by some blunt trauma. Lacerations and incisions may appear linear (regular) or stellate (irregular).

Abrasions (scraping), superficial wounds in which the topmost layer of the skin (the epidermis) is scraped off. Abrasions are often caused by a sliding fall onto a rough surface. onto a rough surface.

Puncture wounds, caused by an object puncturing the skin, such as a nail or needle.

Classification

a.Cut b.Tear

c.Scrapping d.Puncture

There are many types of sutures patterns available to close the incisions and wounds encountered.selecting the appropriate type of pattern is important to achievenot only uncomplicated wound healing, but also good cosmetic appearance.

suture patterns are typically categorised as;1.continuous or interrupted2.inverting,appositional,or everting3.the effect the suture patterns has on wound tension.3.the effect the suture patterns has on wound tension.

Depending on that the there are nine different sutures pattern1.simple interrupted2.interrupted cruciate3.simple continous4.ford interlocking5.lembert6.cushing6.cushing7.connell8.interrupted vertical mattress9.interrupted horizontal matrtress.

How, I asked, could architecture play any positive role in all of this?

My answer was that architecture, as a social and primarilyconstructive act, could heal the wounds, by creating entirely new types of space in the city. These would be what I had called ‘freespaces,’ spaces without predetermined programs of use, but whose strong forms demanded the invention of new programs corresponding to the new, post-the new, post-war conditions. I had hypothesized that “90% ofthe damaged buildings would be restored to their normal pre-war forms and uses, as most people want to return to their old ways of living….but 10% should be freespaces, for those who did not want to go back, but forward

” The freespaces would be the crucibles for the creation of new thinking and social-political forms, small and large. I belie I believed then–and still do–that the cities and their people who have suffered the most difficult transitions in the contemporary world, in Mumbai and elsewhere, have something important to teach us, who live comfortably in the illusion that we are immune to the demands radical changes of many kinds will impose on us, too.

Criteria for theselection of the site was to identify the fault line in mumbai,Basically there Basically there were two option first was looking at the existing faultlines of mumbai which is probabletear or cut in theurban fabricurban fabricor movement of the event 26/11which caused the fault line between two differentsocieties.

PUNCTURE_STITCH AS STRUCTURAL SYSTEM_ FREE SPACE

One can see the glimpses of free spaces and breathing spaces within the hornimon cirlce so theidea was so the extend this and tear it within the urbanwithin the urbanfabric wheras the stitch acta as a structral sysytem for the insertion of free space.
