Dear Friends:

We are honored to share with you our annual report for 2018. It highlights the amazing work that we have accomplished together over the past year through the vital mission of The River.

2018 was a remarkable year for many reasons: • Last fall, we launched our new strategic plan

and vision for the future—A Fully Nourished Community—after a yearlong planning process.

• To align with strategic plan priorities for environment and facilities, we formed a building committee that began to examine ways to optimize our current facility and plan for a future home to house a holistic service hub.

• We had a record year in terms of community impact.

Thanks to your generosity and the support of hundreds of volunteers who con-tributed 49,145 hours of service, we were able to serve 192 more families than the previous year. We also distributed 2.7 million pounds of healthy, nutritious food, and $1,071,462 worth of clothing and household items. Through the quality and quantity of food and resources we shared, we also provided household stability for over 2,000 local, Dane County households. This is how we build community together, with the support of so many friends and partners!

Thank you for believing that food is a right and not a privilege. Thank you for sharing your abundant gifts and blessings with our friends and neighbors. Thank you for helping The River to continue to flow with food, resources and faith to build a stronger community.

Sincerely,

Jennifer ZisserChair, Board of Directors

Charles McLimansPresident & CEO

The River’s mobile lunch program, MUNCH, provides healthy lunches to children, teens, and their caretakers in low-income Dane County neighborhoods every non-school day, including all weekends, school holidays, and all of summer and winter break.

Every Friday at The River, clients may also take home two MUNCH lunches per child in their household for extra nutrition over the weekend.

Since its inception in 2016, MUNCH has served more and more lunches year after year. Throughout 2018, the annual total of lunches served grew by 15%.
