Introduction

Are there things that go bump in the night? A question that has been asked for

thousands of years. Many people shy away from this question, but we, asChristians, have the answers. God has not left us in the dark. He makes it

clear that in our world there are two forces at work; good and evil. Our

perception of evil, however, is very different from the reality. Evil is considered

to be grotesque, devil horned and, well, just plain evil. The reality of evil is very

different. In our world evil is portrayed very differently. The line between good

and evil is blurred.

The devils greatest trick is to make the world believe he does not exist, so

much so that when he is spoken of it seems preposterous to even consider that

he could be real.

Our aim is to present the Truth of the Bible on this subject and for us as young

Christians to become aware of the spiritual battle taking place. We dont

believe the devil is hiding under every rock, song or movie. However we do

believe he has a plan that we need to be aware of and protect ourselves

against his methods.

Many young people are going through challenges that are very difficult to deal

with. We know Christ is the answer and God wants to be our source of comfort

and strength. However young people are finding solace in movies and books,

where the source is questionable. We are not saying that we cannot watch

movies for entertainment, but we need to be careful that our entertainment does

not become an entrapment. Our Christian faith should not just be a part of life;

it is what makes life worth living. Movies entice us into thinking that life would

be different if we were in the position of the main character. We need to see life

from a Christian perspective and spend most of our reading time in Gods Word

so that we can discover and follow His will.

Our Battle

What is the Battle?

It is not physical It is a spiritual battle

For the MIND & SOUL

Who is the enemy?

Satan

What is his plan?

Build strongholds

Stop people from becoming Christians

Make Christians ineffective

This battle has been fought for thousands of years, however it is only now in the

21st century that the battle has moved to another level. Evil is totally running

loose. Evil is spoken of as good and good as evil.

More and more people are growing anti-Christian in the way they think, live and

talk. There is a driving force in our world that wants to get people thinking in a

certain way which will lead right into the enemys hands.

In order for the enemy to win the battle within our minds, we dont have to

believe that these things are real, we only have to wish that they were.

The Problem

We want to be realistic and not extreme - trying to find the devil behind every

bush, song or movie. The world we live in is losing touch with Christianity and

reality.

What are the main sources of information young people are exposed to:

Movies

Music

Television

Magazines

Internet

These are some of the real problems movies present:

The director, scriptwriters and actors want us to hand over our emotions

to them. They will then build our concepts and ideas about life, reality,

love, etc and give birth to our fantasies.

The line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred because althoughthe characters / story, etc are fictional, the love and challenges

presented are portrayed as real.

Movies are written to relate otherwise they would not be watched. The

characters are made to be real, which makes it very difficult not to be

sucked into believing that there might be a spin off in reality.

Movies distort our emotions and create emotional fantasies. This has

been likened to emotional pornography.

Our Defense

God has given us armour to protect ourselves with for this battle. Having the

armour available and USING the armour are 2 different things though!

The Armour of God: (Ephesians 6:10-17)

Belt of Truth

Breastplate of Righteousness

Feet fitted with the Gospel of Peace

Shield of Faith

Helmet of Salvation

Sword of the Spirit

We need to be careful of things that consume our thinking and lives that will

lead us away from the Lord. As Christians we must be wary of exposing

ourselves to things that will distract us and cause us to lose sight of who God is.

This is especially important in our teenage years, which is a time in our lives

when we are most vulnerable to experimentation and anything that tickles our

fancy. We need to put structures in place that will help us to grow spirituallyand sometimes that means that we have to make sacrifices with what we watch

and listen to.

These sacrifices must be made with the right mindset; not because we have to

or because God will punish us if we dont, but because we know it is the right

thing to do for our own protection and for Gods glory.

Glossary of Terms

Angel ............... a "messenger," any agent God sends forth to execute his purpose.

Antichrist........ultimate world leader that will arise in the end times. Political leader

from the European union. He will demand that the world worship him

as god.

Apocalypse.....the Greek name of the Book of Revelation.

Archangel .......the prince of the angels, (1 Thessalonians 4:16; Jude 1:9).

Demon ............an evil spirit without a body, most likely the spirits of the offspring of

fallen angels and people in Genesis 6.

Enchanter .......someone who casts spells.

Fallen angel ....part of the third of the angels that fell from heaven with Satan.

Familiar spirit .a demon that impersonates someone who has died to mislead people

into believing they can communicate with their loved ones who have

passed away.

Hell ..................a place of eternal separation from God, Hell was created for the devil

and his angels. Hell was never intended for people, however those

who reject Christ will go to hell. The devil is not in hell yet, he will be

there when God establishes His Kingdom.

Magic ..............the art of drawing on occult powers by using spirit forces - magic is

strictly forbidden by God.

Necromancer..a medium that speaks to impersonating spirits (deceased people).

Nephilim..........the offspring of fallen angels and woman. They were unnatural giants

and the cause of the flood.

Satan...............the word Satan means adversary or one who lies and waits. Satan

was Lucifer (carrier of light) an archangel. He became proud and

thought he could take Gods throne. God threw him out of heaven and

he became Satan. At the moment he is in the spirit world and not in

hell.

Witchcraft .......using potions and drugs to make people see things and believe things

that are of the spirit world.
