PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL UPDATE

The Parish Pastoral Council had its regular meeting on February 9. The Council met with Bernadette Rudolph from the

Office of Parish Life who will be our facilitator for the coming year. After prayer and faith sharing, Bernadette led us

in a reflection on Bishop Bambera’s pastoral letter, Wounded and Loved, Regathering the Scattered. We shared our

perspectives on “servant leadership” as called for in the letter, and on words used in the letter, such as collaboration, co-

responsibility, and strategic pastoral planning.

Bernadette then showed us the movement from “parish council” which oversaw ministries, did crisis management, and

maintained structures; to “parish PASTORAL council” which does pastoral planning by articulating a vision through

listening, prayer, discernment and then empowering the parish in its activities.

The next scheduled meeting is March 9 and Bernadette will review various methods of listening to the parish for future

planning.

CCD NEWS Classes continue today (Sunday) from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

SUNDAY-Pre K ~ Our Seasonal Sunday Pre-K sessions for our parishioners began last Sunday and will continue until March 20. Registrations are still being accepted—just bring your child on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

MONTHLY YOUTH MASS ~ Today (Sunday) our 4th grade students from both our Catholic and public schools will assist in the 11:15 a.m. Mass. “THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU” ~ Confessions will be heard in the Convent on Monday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. During this time we also have Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament concluding with Benediction. Confessions are also heard in each parish in Our Diocese on Monday’s from 5:30-7:00 as part of this program.

Lenten / Year of Mercy Series: ~DOORS OF MERCY~ We meet each Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the prayerful and comfortable space of the Convent, 110 ½ Stephenson Street (across from the school). AREA LENTEN ECUMENICAL SERVICE – Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. according to the following Schedule: Feb. 23: Moosic Assembly of God Mar. 1: Queen of the Apostles, Avoca Mar. 8: Full Gospel Church, Avoca Mar. 15: Moosic Presbyterian Church NOTE: In case of inclement weather, the service for that Tuesday will be cancelled. The weekly collections will benefit the emergency fund.

HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL GIFT CERTIFICATES ~ The gift certificates that support Holy Rosary School and our other Diocesan schools may be purchased Thursday from 8:00-10:00 a.m. in the Church Hall. As always, the students are grateful for your cooperation!

EASTER CANDY FOR FRIENDS OF THE POOR ~ Holy Rosary School students and Nativity of Our Lord Parish are collecting monetary donations to help fill Easter baskets for area kids who might not be able to enjoy Easter in the customary way. Can you please help with this worthy cause? Anyone who would like to make a donation is asked to place the money in an envelope marked “Easter Baskets” to the attention of Mrs. Casey and send it in by March 14. We will

purchase Easter baskets and candy for less fortunate children with the money that is collected. The sixth grade students will donate their time after school to fill the Easter baskets for the children. Please make checks out to Holy Rosary School. Please do not send in candy.

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, DD, JCL, Bishop of Scranton, and the Office for Parish Life wish to invite couples celebrating their 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in 2016 to a Diocesan Wedding

Anniversary Mass on Sunday, June 5. The event includes a 2:30 p.m. Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral followed by a reception. Requests for an invitation, with a mailing address, should be made through our rectory office before March 7.

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATION AND DINNER

on Sunday, March 6, at Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Avenue in Scranton. The event will begin with mass at 11:00 a.m. followed by the dinner and entertainment from 12-4:00 p.m. in the auditorium. The menu includes ham and cabbage with potatoes and carrots, rolls and butter, vanilla ice cream with mint or chocolate syrup and beverages. SS Peter & Paul Parish LENTEN BUFFET , Friday, March 11, in Bernardine Hall (formerly the School Hall), 13 Hudson Road in Plains. Dinner and takeout from 4:00-6:30 p.m. Stations of the Cross will take place in the church at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $12/adults and $6/children 12 and under. Ample free parking is available. VIRTUS TRAINING SESSION

There will be a VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children for Adults Program on Monday, March 14, at 4:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Hall, Room 219 (Alden Room) at Misericordia University in Dallas. During the 3-hour training, a facilitator who will teach you the tools and show you the resources to maintain a safe environment for all children, will incorporate techniques in a discussion-format to help you recognize the warning signs of child sexual abuse and how to respond to it appropriately and effectively. This training session is required for all adult employees and volunteers who have direct contact or routine interaction with children.
