Our Lord Jesus Christ , King Of The Universe

THEME: The Leadership of Our Lord.

In our democratic culture, we know about kings and emperors

only from television and picture magazines. But we believe in

leaders, “deriving (though) their just power from the

consent of the governed” (Declaration of Independence).

Enlightened and reliable leadership is a great benefit to any

society. We expect our leaders to be conscientious people,

responsible to God, since we are “one nation under God.” Our

leaders must be equally concerned about all, since “all men are

created equal.”

If we had to describe what Jesus Christ means to Christians,

we would most probably do so with this familiar terminology

of the founding fathers. Hence, we should not be amazed that

the Bible describes Jesus as a king, since leader and king were

identical in Biblical culture. The Hebrews knew about the

splendor of King Solomon, the heroic dedication and courage of

their “founding fathers,” King David, and the might and pow-

er of the kings of Egypt and Babylon; hence, they used these

familiar images to describe Jesus’ relationship to the people he

consecrated “by his own blood” (Heb13:12).

Leadership is an alternative to a warped kind of freedom ,

which results in chaos and disaster. We experience it daily

around us. Let us submit to Jesus’ leadership.
