Theme determination / character that shows determinationThe story of qwertyuiop tells of a young secretarys struggle with her

predecessor to hold on to her job by communicating through electric typewriter.

The theme/ character that show determination in this novel is Lucy Berk.

Lucy is tired of being poor and she is fed up with macaroni cheese and baked beans.

She is also sick of wearing second hand clothes. She gathered her strength anddetermined to get a job to get out of poverty.

Lucy got a job at Ross and Bannister , a small firm with a factory just outside

the town. She is so excited came to her work place on Monday morning , at ten to

nine and waited as the door to the office is closed. She starts her work in Ross and

Bannisters and meet with the spirit of Miss Broome who refuses to give up her

position as the company secretary. She haunts the typewriter and frighten away the

new secretaries. But, Lucy is determined to suceed in her first job and so battle it out

with Miss Broome. She succeed in appeasing the spirit of Miss Broome and so is able

to hold on to her job.

The theme /character that determination in this novel runs throughout thestory and this is why i feel it is main theme.

The character that i like most

The story of qwertyuiop tells of a young secretarys struggle with her

predecessor to hold on to her job by communicating through electric typewriter.

The character that i like most is Lucy Berk. Lucy is young seventeen years old ,

small in stature and easily overlooked. She graduates from Belmont Secretarial

College with a very slow typing speed and has onlo one O level.

Lucy has no confidence in her own capabilities especially in getting a job. As

she herself puts it whoever would want to employ me? who in their right mind will

choose me ?. she does not inspire others to have confidence in her. The principal of

the college wishes her luck in an unconvincing way while her mother is extremely

suprised when Lucy is offered a job at Ross and Bannisters. Harry Darke regards her

with pity and is very sure she will not stick it out at Ross and Bannisters.

In the office, Lucy had to contend with the spirit of Miss Broome haunting the

typewriter and interrupting her letters. She is brave and does not give in although the

typewriter stares at her with diabolical eyes and the keys leap up and down of their

own accord. She may be young , shy and a little slow but she is not a coward. As she

says to Harry Darke , its my job now. I need it. She cant have it forever, its not fair.

Its my turn now. So she fight to keep the job. This is change from her initial lack of

confidence in herself.

She shows initiative by finding out about Miss Brroome and making a visit to

her grave. She resolves theprob of Miss Broomes feeling of loneliness and not being

wanted by telling her about Mr bannister needing Miss Broome in the other world. In this

way, she is able to hold on to the job

I think Lucy Berk is the character that very effective by giving moral to me.

Lesson loyalty

The story of qwertyuiop tells of a young secretarys struggle with her predecessor to

hold on to her job by communicating through electric typewriter.

Harry Darke is an elderly man with small dark eyes like currants and a thick icing of

white hair. He worked with Ross and Bannisters for thirty years and had retired. But, now heis rehired as a part time messenger , office boy , tea maker and mender of duses. In other

word he is the office handyman.

I have learnt a great loyalty to company from Harry Darke.

Event that effect the life of main character

The story of qwertyuiop tells of a young secretarys struggle with her predecessor to

hold on to her job by communicating through electric typewriter.

In the office Ross and Bannister , Lucy has to contend with the spirit of Miss Broomehaunting the typewriter and interuppting her letters. Lucy initiative by finding out about

Miss Broome history from Harry Darke. She making a visit to her grave. Lucy resolves the

problems of Miss Brooomes feeling loneliness and not being wanted by telling her that

Mr Bannisters is need her now in the other world. Finally she is convinced that she

should leave as her help is needed. Miss Broome leaves the office permanently after

Lucy managed to convince her that Mr Bannister needs her help afterlife. The typewriter

become silent, sunlight glittered on its keys making them looked wet. Lucy ia able to hold

on to the job.

This event truely not haunting the typewriter and interrupting her work. Now, Lucy

Berk can work comfortably.
