The estimate for disability is on the rise due to:

1. Population ageing;

2. Rapid spread of chronic diseases.

• 15% lives with some form of disability;

• 2-4% have significant difficulties in functioning.

DISABILITY – MAIN OBSTACLES

HF in the framework of international projects have been developing and testing

solutions to promote accessibility to public transport services

• Renovations in the Urban Fleet;

• Improvements of Information Systems;

• Improved nformation to passengers;

• Renovations of the selling points;

• Improvements in the bus stops.

HORÁRIOS DO FUNCHAL

SPECIAL TRANSPORT SERVICE

The Special Transport service works by appointment.

The service is provided to passengers with reduced

mobility and their companions.

HF provides a regular service in public transport routes

in the area of Funchal, a Special Transport Service

(PMR People with Reduced Mobility)

MUSA Project – Approved on 11/2019

Sustainable and Accessible Urban Mobility

Goal: Is the implementation of a partial renewal of the urban fleet of

Horários do Funchal, in order to guarantee greater energy efficiency of

the mobility system in Funchal and greater accessibility for the resident

and tourist population.

The project allows the partial renewal of its fleet, through the acquisition of:

5 electric minibuses

25 EURO VI buses

The percentage of vehicles

with access by wheelchair

goes from 26.7% to 43.2%

(2020).

1 bus dedicated to users with reduced mobility (capacity for 9 wheelchair users).

• “The HF PMR bus was the best adapted bus I've ever been at.”

• “I’m amazed with the HF PMR bus. In UK there is no bus like

this to transport people with reduced mobility.”

• “The HF PMR bus is the best one where I've ever been. The

best dedicated bus. They are easy and safe. Perfect!!”

31% of the tourists evaluated the PT adaptation to people with

reduced mobility with 3,86;

20 tourists with physical limitation evaluated the PT adaptation to

people with reduced mobility with 4,15;

The 5 tourists that used the PMR bus, all evaluated the new

service with 5,00. Some of them shared the following comments:

Photovoltaic Information Panels

Modern design and an autonomous infrastructure, includes a

photovoltaic solution to feed the equipment.

Includes mechanisms that facilitates the reading of information by

people with disabilities and a speaker incorporated.

CONCLUSIONS

• Acessiblity is a crucial issue in sustainable mobility due to the agening

of the population.

• Horários do Funchal have been sucessfully testing and implementing

several solutions that contribute to greater accessibility for tourists and

residents;

• Great oportunities to verify the receptiveness of the solutions within the

residentes and tourists;

• With the support of additional funding sources it will be possible to move

forward and progress into more accessible operations.
