Theatre Improvisation Workshop - ISPIM - Connecting...

! …a workshop on... " Theatre Improvisation to Improve Processes of Innovation Exploring the fuzzy interactions in innovation About the play Looking back on our experience with innovation in organisations we have again and again been struck by the fact that the way we in retrospect speak about what has happened, usually does not reflect the messy relational processes in which the emergence of novelty actually has taken place. In this workshop we are interested in exploring experiences of taking part in processes of innovation, participants as well as ours; where small openings and changes in the communicative interaction may have lead to innovation. We will be using theatre methods to explore these improvised interactions, drawing on our experience from 15 years of research using such methods in organisations. About the facilitators Prof Henry Larsen, Participatory Innovation, SDU Design Research, University of Southern Denmark Preben Friis, MARes., Theatre Lab, SDU Design Research, University of Southern Denmark Henry focuses on human interactions involving conflicts, power relations, politics & on theatre improvisation enabling innovation and stability in organisations Preben is a theatre actor and director, has been worked for 20 years using improvisational theatre methods in change and innovation processes in business Venue ISPIM in Budapest, Session 5.4, Tuesday, 16/06, 13.3015.30, Marriott Hotel, Apáczai Csere János utca 4. IT Product Design - Project guide

Object Theatre in DesignSeptember 15-24, 2014

To anticipate product ‘use’, and in particular how new products influence our social relations and how we act with our bodies is very difficult. The very thought of actually ‘designing’ social relating and body movement is a dilemma, in particular if we think that thinking, discussing and drawing will do the trick. Theatre has something to offer, in particular the genre called Object Theatre. In this project we will focus on how formats and activities known from theatre may help understand product interaction, and ultimately help us ‘design’ interactions. As a case we will work with four IT-products located in the new university building and work out how they might better support the new practices emerging here.

ProgrammeWe will work our way through four perspectives on objects: Agency, people, space, and movement. For each, the theatre activities will help us see the IT-product in a broader light, and discover new opportunities. As a result, we will be able to re-design the products and to present product mock-ups and scenarios of use.
