completing an online application to the
Young India Fellowship, Class of 2020-21

Dear Applicant,
This document aims to support your journey as you apply to the Young India Fellowship (YIF).
It contains a step-by-step walkthrough of the application form, along with important points to
keep in mind. We value and celebrate diversity and encourage all applicants to bring their
authentic selves as they work towards submitting their application. Since each candidate is
unique and also because there is no right answer, we have broad eligibility criteria. To be eligible
to apply for the YIF, you must:
a) Hold a recognized undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline. If you are a
final year undergraduate or postgraduate student, or are a working professional, you
may also apply.
b) Be no more than 28 years of age as on 15th July 2020. In other words, if you are born on
or after 15th July 1992, you may apply.
c) Have a good academic and extra-curricular engagement record and possess strong
communication skills.
What we look for through your application and the interview process, includes but is not limited
to, the following:
a) A clear idea of your journey so far,
b) How the YIF fits into the scheme of things,
c) What have been your successes and failures, how you learnt from them, and,
d) How you plan to utilize the resources at YIF to build your future.

POINTS TO REMEMBER
• A complete application consists of your online application form with following sections:
o Personal and Contact Details
o Academic Details
o Employment Details (Optional)
o Extra-Curricular Activities
o Parents/ Guardian Details
o Essays
o Referee Details
o Survey Details
o Honour Pledge
• All applications must be completed online at apply.ashoka.edu.in.
• Your email address is your username. When you register to create your online
application, record your password in a secure place. You can log in and out of your
application as frequently as you like using your username and password. If necessary,
you can reset your password by clicking the ‘Forgot Password?’ option on the login page.
• You are not required to complete the application in one session. You can re-enter at any
time and edit your application before you submit it. You will have to log out and login
again to resume your application.
• Once you submit your application, you can no longer make changes to it.
• Responses to questions on the application must adhere to established character limits.
• Prepare required documents and save them in a ‘.pdf’ format. To preserve any
formatting and special characters in your documents, it is highly recommended that you
upload them in a ‘.pdf’ format.
• Review the entire application before submitting it. The application should be free of
grammatical and spelling errors.
• Application deadlines (23:59:59 Hours IST on the said date)
o Round 1: 17th November 2019
o Round 2: 2nd February 2020
o Round 3: 31st March 2020

STARTING AND SUBMITTING AN ONLINE APPLICATION
1. To start, go to apply.ashoka.edu.in. You will see the login page as below.
2. You need to click on ‘New Registration’ tab to register yourself in order to generate your
username and password.
NOTE: Use an email address that you will be able to access for at least a year after submitting
your application. This is the email address you will use to login to your application portal.

3. Click on ‘Submit’ after filling in the relevant details. Following message will appear on
your screen.
4. You will receive an email ‘Registration: Ashoka University’ from [email protected]
confirming your registration. It will include your User ID and password. It will also give
you an option to verify your email address. You need to click on that link.

5. You will receive a message like the one below:
6. Click on the ‘click here’ option to login to your application portal. It will bring you to
following page:

7. You can now use your login credentials (Username and Password) received in the
registration mail to login to your application portal. Once you are logged in, you will see
following page. You can click on ‘Need Help with my App’ (on the left) if you are facing
any difficulties. There are also exhaustive ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ (on the left)
which will help you answer your questions.
8. You need to click on ‘Click here to Start Filling the Application’ under Action. Once you
do that, you will get on to the following page:

9. You are now ready to start filling your application. Click on the section you want to fill.
For example, click on ‘Personal & Contact Details’. You will see the following page to fill
all details:
10. Please enter all the relevant details and attach a recent color passport size photograph
(File size shouldn’t be exceeding 1 MB). If your State/ City is not there in the dropdown
list, you can select ‘Other’ and specify it in the text box. Once you are done, you need to
click on ‘Save and Continue’ to move to the next section.

11. Please enter your ‘Academic Details’ for Class X, Class XII, Graduation and Post
Graduation (if applicable). Kindly note that the CGPA/ grade conversion to percentage
will be according to the conversion parameters of your institution. Once you are done,
click on ‘Save and Continue’. You will see the following page.
12. Please enter your ‘Employment Details’. You can also add your internship experience in
this section. Once you are done, click on ‘Save and Continue’. You will see the following
page.

13. Please enter your ‘Extra Curricular Activities’. These can be activities you have
participated in apart from your academic curriculum. For example, if you studied
engineering and played cricket alongside, then cricket is an extracurricular activity. Once
you are done, click on ‘Save and Continue’. You will see the following page.
14. Please enter your ‘Parents/ Guardian Details’. Once you are done, click on ‘Save and
Continue’. You will see the following page.

15. Please write your ‘Essays’ within the given word limit (300 words) and attach any
supporting documents that would add to your candidature. Once you are done, click on
‘Save and Continue’. You will see the following page.
16. Please enter your ‘Referee Details’ to get your recommendation letter filled. Referee is a
person who has acted as your mentor academically or professionally. Once you are done,
click on ‘Save and Continue’. You will see the following page.

17. Please complete the ‘Survey Details’. Once you are done, click on ‘Save and Continue’.
You will see the following page.
18. Please check the box to take the ‘Honour Pledge’. Once you are done, click on ‘Save and
Continue’. You will see the following page.

19. You need to click on ‘Final Submit’ button to submit your application. You will be
prompted to confirm submitting your application. Click on ‘OK’ to confirm. You will be
able to view your application as follows.
20. Congratulations! You have submitted your application successfully. You will also receive
an email titled ‘YIF: Acknowledgment of application’ confirming the receipt of your
application.

21. If you want to log out and resume your application, log out and go to the login page and
login with your credentials again. You need to click on ‘Complete and submit your
Application Form to be evaluated’ to resume your application. You can only do this
before you have done ‘Final Submit’.
