The Wright Times Mini-Issue March The Outsiders: A Review By Spencer Mc Roy Books are something that everyone has an opinion on, whether it be a good opinion or bad one. Some people like books more than other people. A book that I recommend is The Outsiders. It is a shorter book that is only 153 pages, great for people who aren’t big on reading. It’s a book about a group of teenage greasers (the term greaser was used to describe men in the 50’s and 60’s who greased their hair back and wore leather jackets, which was a whole subculture). The group of 7 main greasers hang out and have a good time with each other but it all ends until a very serious event happens that changes Ponyboy’s and Johnny’s lives forever. There are 7 main characters, and some good supporting characters. The most important of the 7 is Ponyboy Curtis. He’s 14 in the events of the book, and lives with his two older brothers Sodapop Curtis and Darry Curtis after their parents died in a car crash. He is different from the rest of the greasers, not being interested in girls but rather liking sunrises and reading. He is the youngest out of the greasers. The next character is his older brother Sodapop. He is 16 in the book, and works at a gas station with his best friend Steve Randle. He is more relaxed and a very happy-go-lucky character, who is very charming and is able to win people over with his looks. The last of the Curtis siblings is Darell “Darry” Curtis. He is the oldest out of the greasers, being 20 years old. He is a very dad-like character, being very over protective and hard on Ponyboy, though he means it with the intention of love. He works 2 jobs to support his brothers, and is a very serious character. The next character is Steve Randle, who is 17. He works at the gas station with Sodapop, and is a cocky character who likes to work on cars. One of my favorite characters in the book is Johnny Cade. He’s 16, and is a shy and soft spoken person. He spends a lot of time with Ponyboy, and gets abused by his parents. Two-Bit is the next character, who is 18 and is a very fun and outgoing character. His real name is Keith, but has the nickname of Two-Bit. The last, and my personal favorite character, is Dallas Winston. He is 17 years old, and has a tough bad boy reputation, and has been going to jail since the age of 10. He was from New York, but moved to Oklahoma, where the book takes place.  The Outsiders: A Review

By Spencer Mc Roy

Books are something that everyone has an opinion on, whether it be a good opinion or bad one.

He’s 14 in the events of the book, and lives with his two older brothers Sodapop Curtis and Darry

The Outsiders: A Review Continued from Page 1….

If the book sounds interesting but you don’t feel like reading, you’re in luck! The Outsiders is also a movie, with some familiar faces if you’re into older movies. It includes actors Ralph Macchio who was in The Karate Kid, and Emilio Estevez who was in The Breakfast Club. With it’s good tone and setting, well casted actors, and gorgeous cinematography, it is definitely worth a watch. Just make sure to bring some tissues, because as fun and heart warming as it is, it has a rather sad ending.

A Very Peculiar Pup:  Young Puppy Found With a Strange Attribute,

an Extra Tail on his Forehead!

On November 10th, Narwhal the Magical Furry Unicorn, or Narwhal for short, was found by Mac’s Mission, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping dogs with unique traits. Narwhal got his name from the thing that caught everyone’s attention from

the start, an extra tail on the middle of his forehead. This strange attribute gained him viral fame across the internet and quite a following, with many wanting to take care of the ball of sunshine. But people still have many questions about him and his past, but Narwhal is still young and growing just like any other dog his age.

Narwhal’s tail does not move, and even though Mac’s Mission still wants to monitor Narwhal’s growth, the tail most likely won’t be harmful to him, and has no reason to be removed. But as cute as the horn may be, many people wonder why he got this unnatural trait. One theory on how Narwhal got his iconic tail is that the tail actually comes from a parasitic twin, which are very uncommon in dogs, due to them being born in litters. This theory is supported by the strange fact that the tail has no bones, because the bottom half of the body needs confirmation from the top half to form bones. Despite being full of energy today, Narwhal has a rough start to his life, being first found in the cold, frostbitten on one paw, and nobody really has much of an idea where he and his possible father, Poppa Smurf are from. But his popularity across the internet will be used for good as Narwhal will be adopted by his finder and become a spokesdog for Mac’s Mission. He is being adopted by the leader of Mac’s Mission herself due to her worrying about people using his popularity for profit or other purposes. But still, Narwhal will most likely live a happy life with his owner, bring smiles to peoples lives, and help improve other dogs’ lives like his own.

Kobe Bryant

The Investigation of Kobe Bryant And How People Reacted

By Angelica Henderson

Everyone's been buzzing about Kobe Bryant and his daughter’s death. But,

what happened? January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant and 8 others including his daughter died in a helicopter

crash. They were on his way to his daughter, Gia’s basketball tournament at Bryant’s

Mamba Sports Academy. Kobe said he likes to drive his own helicopter, but during this sad incident, he had a pilot who was taking them there. Unfortunately, nobody survived the crash.

People who were in the area of the crash called 911 and actually said that there was a boom and a dead sound, then someone could see flames. Other callers said that the helicopter was thick in the clouds, but they did have permission to go up that day even though they knew the conditions. After all of the hard times, came the funeral. They had a public funeral on February 24 at the Staples Center. Lots of Kobe's teammates and friends including Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan was one of the people who made a speech. It was very inspiring about what he said. I think it made everyone tear up a little bit as he talked about how he was like a little brother to him. Kobe Bryant affected lots of lives for good and he will be missed. R.I.P Kobe.
