Congregational Response: My Soul Is at Rest ................................................................................ J. Berthier Prayer of Confession ................................................................................................................. Amy McClure

Please read in unison.

God of all time, you have delighted in your created world since the very begin-ning of the age. We confess the speed in which we race through our days. Convinced our life’s value lies in our productivity, we assure ourselves that to be busy is to be important. God of all space, you remind us to be still and know you. We confess the noisy distractions that fill our hands and heads. Terrified of what we might encounter in the silence, we forgo Sabbath quiet and the deep nourishment it would bring. God of all seasons, you promise us that everything under heaven has a sea-son. We confess our inability to observe occasions of dormancy and rest. For-getting to lie fallow, we think ourselves impervious to the erosion of our soul. Liberating God, create in us a clean heart and a right Spirit, our souls renewed by the sacred practice of stillness, silence, and rest; for it is then that your still, small voice can be heard! Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness .......................................................................................................... Amy McClure

Leader: Brothers and sisters, just as you remember the Sabbath and all its blessings of rest and delight, remember also who and whose you are: beloved children of God, freed and forgiven. Go forth and remember!

People: Thanks be to God!

Response: More Love to Thee, O Christ ................................................................................. arr. W. Cassler

Jerry Bennett, Jacob Hill, Joe Thompson, David Williamson Grace Anderson, Cello

More love to Thee, O Christ; more love to Thee! Hear Thou the prayer I make on bended knee. This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee. Once earthly joy I craved, sought peace and rest; now Thee alone I seek, give what is best. This all my prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee. Then shall my latest breath whisper Thy praise; this be the parting cry my heart shall raise. This still its prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee! Amen.

Prayers for the People ............................................................................................................. John Thornton

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

TIPS FOR AGING WELL Thursday, August 17, 10:00-11:30 am

in Ammons-Lolley Commons As life expectancy increases, the goal is not simp-ly to love longer, but to live stronger by paying attention to nutrition and physical activity and by staying engaged mentally, socially, and spiritually. On August 17, First on Fifth welcomes Deb Bur-combe, Director of Outreach for the Sticht Center, as the speaker for our first Coffee & Conversa-tion gathering, sponsored by the Senior Adult Ministry Team. We will gather in the Ammons-Lolley Commons from 10:00 to 11:30 for this kick-off event which is open to the community. Come with your questions about how to age well! Con-tact Linda Lewis at [email protected] for more information.
