IFALPAThe Chemistry of CombiningTHE WORLd’S AIRLINE PILOTS

pilots. Together they form a compound more influential and farther reaching than that of any individual member association. Pilot representa-tives gather later this month for the 68th Annual IFALPA Conference to continue the process of advancing the pro-fession while making air travel safer and more secure.

IFALPA was created to provide the airline pilots of the world with a formal means to interact with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). An agency of the United Nations, ICAO was established after World War II to set international air transportation policy through standards and recommended practices. In April 1948, pilot organizations from 16 nations signed a pact to form the federation. The accord was an outgrowth of a 1943 trilateral agree-ment among ALPA, the British Air Line Pilots Association, and the Canadian Air Line Pilots Association. Since then, ALPA has played a major role in the growth and success of IFALPA.
