The World Renewal

If I remember correctly, it was the winter of the year 1952.I was then feeling terrible loneliness of the spirit. I oftenasked myself: “Am I alone in the wilderness of the self?

Am I not forlorn in this helter-skelter world? I feel myself astranger here.”

My loneliness or forlornness was not a kind of physicalseclusion. I had numerous friends, relatives and colleagues,who loved me, laughed with me and gave me company. But, inthe space of my mind, I felt that I was not of the comminglingcrowd or the tumultuous multitude but of the solitude. I said tomyself: “If God does not have a voice, then life to me ismeaningless and fruitless; it is a damp squib. If He does notappear unto me, then my spirit is weak. If He does not enterinto my inner world, then life for me is a torso and my soul is amere stump.” It was in such a state of mind that I came intocontact with Brahma Kumaris Institution. After having mylessons in Rajayoga Meditation and in the related metaphysicsand philosophy, co-related with practical life, I went to MountAbu, their Headquarters, to have my first ever experience ofShiva Baba meeting the human souls (whom He called “My

THE INVISIBLEIMPRESSIONS THAT SHAPE

MY PERSONALITY

When you point out one finger at other, three fingers point at you.

While the mind andintellect are twofaculties of the soul,

which play their role on thesurface of our consciousness;at a deeper level, hiddenbeneath these two faculties,there lies a third facultycommonly called thesanskaras. The sanskaras arenot only the store house ofpersonality traits, as wecommonly know them to be, butalso the store house of millionsand millions of impressions orimprints. Such a large numberof impressions are created bymillions of experiences that wego through our sense organsnot only in this life but in all ourlifetimes. Everything that wehear, see, speak, touch, taste,etc., we process or analyse orsummarize in our own uniqueway; and basically, thereby wegive the experiences a uniqueform depending on ourpersonality, before this formgets stored in the form ofimpressions inside us. We evenprocess our subtle experiences,which are in the form of

thoughts and feelings. This process of experiencing

and processing takes placeduring each and every secondof our life including the time wesleep, when our mind may notbe experiencing a lot, but it isbusy in processing the physicaland subtle experiences of theday that has gone by and storingthe processed information in theform of impressions. From this,one can get an idea of themagnitude of the database ofimpressions stored within thesoul, the inner being. Theseimprints, which are unique to us,make up our sanskaras andshape up our unique personalityin a cyclic process. The typesof impressions are shaped orcreated out of our particulartype of experiences; and theimpressions, in turn, shape ourthoughts, words and actions.For example, if I constantly getangry (have experiences ofanger); then, it slowly becomesmy habit and I would easily getirritated in adverse situations,thus, forming/building mytypical angry personality due to

my experiences of anger.Slowly, this typical personalitycharacteristic of anger getsstronger and over a period oftime, I will fail to find anythingwrong or fault with my natureand will be prone to expressanger more and more. As aresult, more such typical angryimpressions will get stored inthe soul. These impressionswill then trigger angrythoughts, as soon as situationswill not play out according tomy plan. Thus, it is a viciouscyclic process.

Proper spiritualunderstanding gives us thepower to break the old cycleof negative and ordinarythoughts and instead createnew positive, constructive anddivine thoughts, which thenflow into our feelings, beliefs,attitudes, actions, interactions,relationships, perceptions and,thus, re-emerge our originaltrue typical divinepersonality. With therealization and awareness ofour original self, our impure,negative and waste thoughtswill finish and we can work oncreating new pure and divinesanskaras for becoming thedeities in the forthcomingGolden-Aged world ofSatyuga as we go on deletingour old Kaliyugi impure anddemoniac impressions orsanskaras.

There is no other hall likethis Diamond Hall atShantivan. There is so

much happiness, peace and lovehere. Look at the picture of thecycle at the back of the Hall -so simple and yet so good. Whata Hall!

Look at each of Baba’schildren and we remember ourmemorial at Dilwala. What isMadhuban, a temple with livingimages? Dadi has been thinkingof coming here all day and it isso wonderful to be here with all,my brothers and sisters.

Time is short and we keep thecycle in front of us whichenables us to become the rulersof the globe. Even in this lastbirth we use royal sanskars andDadi has never asked anyone todo anything for her or for ‘evena penny.’ Baba has taught us torenounce and to be austere.Baba has given us very deepunderstanding of what it meansto remain in ascetic practice. Itis beautiful to sit in this stageand we develop an attitude ofdisinterest. The state of anascetic helps us dedicateourselves to service. There is no

question of ‘I’ anymore.A few of us have gone around

the world on service. I am oneof those fortunate ones. BrahmaBaba taught me everything herein Madhuban. Baba taught us tobe like the male child, the heir.I have never considered myselfin the female form. Theconsciousness of being in afemale chariot has also beenbroken. The heir recognizes hisright over the parent’s property.Generally, females do notreceive the full inheritance fromthe parents. Now Baba hasmade all of us belong to Him andliberated us from theconsciousness of the body.

Who is Baba truly? What isHe like? He is detached and yetloved by all as the most uniqueOne. There are many foundingfathers and variety of soulsthroughout the world, but thereis no one like my father Brahma.We are Baba’s sweet and dearlyloved children. Here, no onespeaks loudly. We all share ‘OmShanti’ with a great deal of loveand regard for each other. Today,Baba spoke about sitting insolitude and making the stage of

soul-consciousness very firm.When Brahma Baba was

here, he indicated that thereshould be a big hall in front ofPandav Bhawan. There was nodoubt that each word of Babawould come true and that thewords ‘Om Shanti’ would beheard all over the world. Thesetwo words, Baba and OmShanti, are all that we need tohear around the world to giveBaba’s introduction to others.Does our faith reveal Baba tothe world? Do we show the rightdirection to others?

It is not the fault of those onthe path of devotion that they callGod Shiva omnipresent. ShivBaba is merged in our heartsand is revealed through our gaze(drishti). This Baba hideshimself in our hearts. He issitting in your heart. Isn’t He?Show the world what our Babais like. Many say that Dadi youdon’t speak of anything else.This is good. Isn’t it? Avyakt BapDada are beautiful and thewords we hear through the Sakar Murlireveal the efforts that Baba made, living theideals taught by Shiv Baba.

I remain happy proportionate to love, truthand peace in my heart. In one edition ofTrimurti magazine (edited by Jagdish Bhai)there was an article on “Honesty, Cleanlinessand Simplicity”. All of you are great warriorsouls; so, what is your opinion? How wouldyou describe a horse rider? A horse riderstruggles to keep up. A maharathi (elephantrider) moves very calmly with great controland peace. Baba’s work is happening verypeacefully all over the world and there is noconflict of ‘I and mine’.

Many years ago Baba sent us to foreignlands to serve, and we wondered if therewould be a time when Baba would call usall back to serve in Bharat. What are all ofyou going to do now? Serve as Baba wouldlike you to serve; this is all that I hold as mywish. Baba is the One who enables us to doeverything. Who am I to decide where I amto be – it is Baba who places me in the rightplace at the right time. Wherever Dadi goesnow, everyone recognizes and says, ‘OmShanti’. People recognize us. Baba hasmade us belong to Him and made usinstruments to serve the whole world.

It was so wonderful to be with DadiGulzar in Delhi last weekend. Dadi Gulzargave me her room in Delhi and she shiftedto a smaller room. I had to accept but howcan I possibly like that? However, it wasvery sweet. Here in Abu she doesn’t needto do this! We spent all the time theretogether. Dadi is the instrument to shareBaba’s love with us as the official medium.Dadi Gulzar is so loving and sweet and noone shares as much love as she does.

In spite of the newadvancement in science andtechnology and materialprogress the state of the peopleand world was still morally andspiritually hollow. The world atthe first half of the twentiethcentury was really a wasteland.People did not really live theirlife in true sense of the term.Instead, they simply existed inthe wilderness of materialplenty and spiritual scanty.Their lives were always hauntedby questions and doubts becauseof which they could not find anycomfort and solace. They hadcushioned beds to sleep on butcould not get the sound sleep atall. They had many medicines butno health. They lived longer inyears but not in noble deeds. This was the paradox of ourtime in the history of the world.The same paradoxical state oflife is also still viewed in the

broad scene of life even now.We have taller buildings, butshorter tempers; widerfreeways, but narrowerviewpoints. We buy more, butenjoy less; we have biggerhouses, but smaller families. Wegather more degrees, but lesssense; we have moreknowledge, but less judgment;more experts, but moreproblems; more medicines, butless wellness. We havemultiplied our possessions, butreduced our values; we talkedtoo much, but love too seldom,and hate too often. We havelearned how to make a living, butnot a life. We have added yearsto life, but not life to years. Wehave all the way to moon andback, but have trouble crossing thestreet to meet the new neighbor.We have conquered outer space,but not inner space. We have donelarger things, but not better things.We have cleaned up the air, butpolluted the soul; we have split theatom, but not our prejudice. Wewrite more, but learn less; we planmore, but accomplish less; wehave learned to rush, but not towait. We talk of world peace atconferences in public platforms,but indulge in domestic conflictsat home. Hegives His introduction, who Heis. On the path of devotion, manyget a vision of the soul and theSupreme Soul, but whathappens? This is why it is said, “Hey,God! Fill our apron!” It is notabout the physical apron, it isabout the apron of knowledge,through which we, the souls,take the reward of everlastinghappiness. The apron of thesoul is the intellect, and we takethe reward of the sanskar inwhich the knowledge is filled.The mind and intellect are in thesoul, aren’t they? Everything isfilled in it. The Supreme Fathersits and teaches us how to fillthe soul. The part of 84 birthsis filled in such a tiny soul.Look, it is said that the atombomb is so small, but it is sopowerful! As there is power inthe atom bomb, there is a greatdeal of power in the soul aswell. This power lasts for somany births! The SupremeFather comes and says:“Children, the account of yourlast birth remains. Erase thatand fill with the new account.I will come and tell you how tofill.” If you have to fill, fill it insuch a way that you continueto get happiness forever.

Do this Exchange-Dealwith the Supreme FatherNow, we have to fill the new

account. We have to exchangethe old and take the new from

the Supreme Father. This is theexchange-deal. There are alsolots of exchange-deals in theworld. In some places, theytake old utensils and give awaythe new ones, don’t they!Similarly, there is an exchangedeal here as well. The SupremeFather says: “Give awayeverything, including the bodyto Me, and I will give youeverything new, including anew body and new relations.”Is there any loss in doing suchdeal? There is lots of benefit,isn’t it? You should comeforward to claim such a profit.What is there of value in thisold body and bodily things?

So, have this exchange-dealwith the Supreme Father. Thisbody is diseased, unhappy, andit experiences untimely death,etc. When we remove theattachment of the body andbodily relations and surrendereverything to the SupremeFather; then, in exchange, weget a good body and all goodrelationships. Look, therelationship between Lakshmiand Narayan is so good! It isgood to get a world of suchrelationships, isn’t it! There willalways be happiness, nothingbut happiness in it. The King,the subjects and all otherrelationships will be good. We

will receive so much happinessand bliss when we will comeinto such a deity kingdom. TheNature there will besattopradhan. There will notbe any calamities. The Naturewill serve us completely there,because we will be receivingthe reward of our elevatedactions.

Look, here we sometimesreceive happiness andsometimes sorrow. Whenwealth comes, there ishappiness but if such a son isborn, who finishes all thewealth, then there is sorrow.However, these things do nothappen in the Golden Age.There is constant happinessand peace. There is no worry,even when leaving the body;there will be constanthappiness. There, we have thereward of our elevated actionsfor many births.

The Supreme Father sits andexplains all these things: “Icome once and fill so muchstrength in you that you stayhappy for many births, eatingand relaxing in all respects.”Why should we be slack indoing something, which gives somuch profit or benefit? Weshould be active in finalizing thisexchange-deal with ourSupreme God Father.

Bygiving their time and skillswithout expectation of anymaterial rewards, volunteersthemselves are uplifted by asingular sense of purpose.” Themotivation behind such acts is

pure heart that is full ofgoodness, selflessness andboundless with compassion andlove. It takes great deal of self-realization to overcome yourwants and your ego to engageyourself to volunteering; it is onlythrough volunteering that weexperience the real joy, the realsatisfaction from our acts thatcannot be experienced throughany other means. Further,volunteering also is a chance togive back to the society as thereturns for what it efforts tomake you the person that youare today. In addition to this,volunteering also teaches veryimportant life lessons that noother curriculum can offer. BEGINNING OF MY SPIRITUALJOURNEY WITH

BRAHMA KUMARIS

Always emerge in your awareness the treasures of knowledge, values and virtues.

About five decades havegone but the memoryof the first day of visit

to the Brahma Kumaris Centrein Agra is still fresh in my mind.Agra is my native place and theBrahma Kumaris Centre wassituated near Raja Ki Mandi, oneof the most popular and oldshopping centres in Agra. I andmy friend were out for shoppingwhen we saw the Centre’ssignboard, which seemed quiteunique to us. Out of curiosity,we visited the first floor of thebuilding. As soon as we enteredthe gates of the Centre, we sawthe exhibition of our gods andgoddesses as wall paintings. Weconfused this with the temple ofLord Krishna, our popular deityof Brajpradesh; but, later on,while reaching the central hall,we saw young women in whiteclothes that aroused ourcuriosity about the place. Wewere mesmerised by theuniqueness of the place when ayoung sister came forward andbegan to explain us about this‘new temple of new God’.

After we had given our brief

introduction as P.G. students ofbiological science, the sistergave a small introduction aboutthe real identity of God as beingan Incorporeal Point-of-Light.For simplification, she cited theexample of God Shiva who iscommonly worshippedeverywhere in our villages ofU.P. The knowledge seemedquite interesting and we wishedto delve into the deeper aspectsof divine knowledge imparted byBrahma Kumaris. However, wecould not continue that day dueto time constraints andrequested the sister to continueon some other day.

I again visited the Centre ona Sunday morning at the time ofmeditation and was delighted toabsorb the powerful vibrationsof the place. The empoweringexperience continued when Isaw a number of spiritualstudents sitting in disciplinedmanner listening to the seniorsister who was reading out theMurli. I, too, sat there andlistened to the same silently likeothers. Later, a B.K. Sister gaveme a detailed explanation about

the real self - Who Am I? Shegave me some inputs aboutRajayoga meditation and how toform a loving connectionbetween the soul and theSupreme Soul. She was also myfirst spiritual teacher, whoexplained to me the importanceof doing good karma and thevalue of karmayoga(performing duties in theremembrance of God). Thelessons served me well in my lifeas I began the journey frombeing a PG student to finallybecoming the scientist at theNational Institute of Governmentof India.

As being the leading scientist,I had to travel to different partsof the country for more thanthree decades and found difficultto be in constant touch with theBrahma Kumaris. However, itwas my fortune that I again gotthe opportunity to visit MountAbu in 1992. After that I visitedthe place 2-3 times for someofficial work and the bondingwith the spiritual family grew andbecame stronger. It was awonderful and enchantingmoment, an experience of alifetime when I received thedrishti of Bapdada and Icommitted myself fully to thisspiritual path.

GOD’S SIGNIFICANT NAME“SHIVA” MEANS “WORLD

BENEFACTOR”

It is the greatest mistake of man to fail to learn from a lot of mistakes.

Many people mayagree with WilliamShakespeare, the

world famous poet anddramatist, who wrote:“What’s in a name!” Thisclearly implies the devaluation ofname, because many names andwords of nomenclature have losttheir meaning. For example, anAmerican city is namedLos Ángeles, which refers to‘the angels’ in Spanish. Theword yoga, which has theoriginal meaning of living inharmony with God, fellow-human beings, environment, etc.,has its meaning limited to merephysical exercises. The word‘religion’ (derived from Latinterm) religare originally meantre-uniting (or re-establishingbond between God and humanbeings and between or amonghuman beings); but,unfortunately, now it has becomea synonym for wide divisivenessleading to religious conflicts andstruggles in the world.

However, that was not thecase in the beginning. Earlier, aname was the symbol of basiccharacteristic, quality or

character of a particular personor a thing. For example, in Vedicperiod sun was called “aditya”and God was described as“adityavarna”, which meansthat God has the qualities of thesun, the giver of light and heat(The Gita 8:9). Aditya means‘of Aditi’. The name Aditi(literally, without division,without limit) is mentioned inThe Vedas as motherof Surya (Sun) and othercelestial bodies or gods arereferred to as Adityas (meaningsons of Aditi); and a similarsounding word aatithya meanshospitality. Sun is rememberedfor its service because it is agiver of light and warmth to allbeings equally – without anydiscrimination, division andwithout any limit. Thus, the nameaditya shows us the veryessence of sun with whosehospitality all living beings aresignificantly sustained. Also, sunis an amazing example ofspirituality, because it is alwaysa Giver (and receiving is not itsconcern). Hence, in the past,people used to remember Godwhen they saw physical sun

because God is the UltimateGiver of spiritual light and allother divine empowerments(Psalms 84:11; Mathew 5:44-48). God Himself testifies to thisfact: “I am the Bestower and Ido not never receive anythingfrom anyone.” “I am Altruistic;I don’t have any expectations”(Murli 1.7.2016; 5.7.2016).What a splendid example bothGod and sun have set for humanbeings on earth! At the dailysight of sun, everyone isreminded to say to the self: “Allmy actions should enlighten andempower others; and I shouldhave no expectations fromothers.” Imagine how heavenlyyour life would be if you areliving with a person, who hassuch sun-like qualities.

Just like the name adityadepicts the very character of sunand, accordingly, bringshappiness to us, God’s name toogives insight into the basiccharacter of God and,accordingly, brings us greaterhappiness. In the East, God isconceived as Param Atma(Supreme Soul). Atma is acombination of ‘a’ (a negativeprefix) and ‘tama’ (darkness,ignorance or ego); hence, incombination, ‘a’ and ‘tama’mean a spiritual being made oflight of knowledge/divine lightthat acts without ego. Since‘atma’ is contrasted with ego, itmeans or refers to one, who

always acts in knowledgethereby bringing benefit to allpeople. And in the East, ParamAtma’s name is Shiva (literally,omnibenevolent, good to allwithout discrimination,division, without limit), whichalso very significantly means orrefers to World Benefactor, onewho brings benefit to allpeople; and He does this byenacting such roles as SupremeFather, Mother, Teacher, Guru,Companion and Almighty.

Interestingly, in the West too,this concept is inherent in themeaning of God’s name,Jehovah, as revealed to Moses,who is considered to be aprominent prophet by Jews,Muslims and Christians. Theterm Jehovah means “I am thatI am” [ehyeh ašer ehyeh](Exodus 3:14). This can betranslated into simple words as“He who is, who was, who willbe” (Revelation 1:8). But,behind the expression “I am thatI am,” we can notice bothawareness and existence as Hisessence [it is like saying ‘I exist,and I am also aware that Iexist’]; hence, it can point toPure Consciousness, the corefeature of Atma or “Spirit,”which is how Jesus describedGod (John 4:24) Interestingly,the expression “I am that I am”is also similar to the famousdescription used in the East: SatChit Anand (which refers to the

One who is aware that He iseternally existing bliss).

Yet, there are other Biblescholars, who understand thatthe name Jehovah as thecausative form, the imperfectstate of the Hebrew verb(ha·wah, “to be, to become”),thereby meaning “He will causeto become,” and, hence, feel thatthe name Jehovah should morecorrectly be translated as “Hecauses to become”. He causesHimself to become whateverrole is needed to benefit Hischildren. That means God’sname is an invitation to humanbeings to view Him in variousroles that will bring benefit to thesouls, His spiritual children. Ifyou view Him as your realFather, He will cause Himself tobecome your Father, therebymaking you link with His infinitepower. If you see Him as yourmother, companion, teacher,spouse, Guru and Almighty, Hewill cause to become Himselfsuch and will give you His infinitequalities of peace, joy,knowledge, love, purity and blissrespectively. Interestingly, thisaspect of the divine name toofinds its fulfillment in aRajayogi. Depending upon theneed of the hour, in Rajayogameditation he/she shouldconnect with God andremember Him in any particularrole(s) so as to experience Hisdivine qualities. The Bible too

presents God in various roles –even in feminine terms such asmother (Deuteronomy 32:11-12; Isaiah 49:15; 66:13; Hosea11:3-4) and this insight into Hisvarious roles naturally enabledHis children to have deeper andsweeter relationship with Him,which kept them always happyand balanced (Romans 8:28;Isaiah 12.2; 61:10). At the rootof Him taking or enactingvarious roles too lies His corequality of benevolence (shivom)(Mark 10:18).

When one says “I knowswimming”, it means hepractises swimming. Similarly,when one says “I know God”, itmeans he is practising goodness,which is the essence of whatGod is. It means giving on thebasis of blessing. Our ‘giving’should rest upon the great truththat God is a bountifully blessingGod, and then our gift or giving,in turn, should be a bountifulblessing to others. It has itsfuture benefits too. Those, whochoose to act with God’squalities, are calledSuryavanshis (tribes of sun)and are destined to inherit therecreated heaven on earthwhereas those, who arechoosing to act without Hisqualities, are of Asura/Asuriyatribes and are destined to takebirth only when the earthdeclines again into hell.

People ask things from God but never ask for Him, the Supreme Being.

Every country in the worldis going through extremeconvulsions at present.

Even the developed countries,which were once consideredstable and also strong, are alsogoing through political andeconomic chaos. The socialorder is degrading and peopleare feeling unhappy at theindividual level. As we look atthe turmoil and disturbance allaround, we are left to wonder ifthere is any way out of thischaos.

But, if we look closely, wecan find that there is no problemanywhere outside; the problemis always created in our weakminds. Thoughts of wars andconflicts have their roots in theminds of individuals, which thenripple out in the society andfinally spreading out to theworld. The mind holds the wholeworld inside us. If we live withthe same old negative thoughts,opinions and beliefs; then, wewill have the same experiences.This is where spirituality helpsus as we understand the truthabout life, we start to work on

our self, to change our insideworld, so that we can see abetter result in the outsideworld.

To change the world outside,first we need to go deep insideto change our inner world. Thatmeans we create our thoughtsbut let us not allow our thoughtsto be negative reactions to theactions of others or to thechanges of events around us.People will be negative andsituations will not be as wedesire at times, but our thoughtsshould be positive, peaceful andpowerful at all times.

Let us practise thinking ofpeace, love, compassion,tolerance and patience. Also,remember the fact that webecome what we think about, allday long. How often do weclutter our mind with thoughts ofanger and resentment as wewitness injustice around us orwhen things do not go our way?How many times a day do wesay out loudly: how terrible andunjust the world is? Howintolerant we have all become?How uncaring and uninterested

we seem to be? How racist arewe? How we keep complainingabout the government and itspolicies? All of these thoughtsand their expression are clearindications that we have becometrapped in a non-peaceful mindand, thereby, contributing to thecreation of an unhappy and non-peaceful world.

One way to get out of this rutis through proper understandingof spirituality and practice ofRajayoga meditation. As weattain inner peace throughpractice of spirituality andRajayoga, we reach a state ofself-acceptance, a state ofmental calmness even in thepresence of mayhem in theoutside world. Spirituality helpsus to change our vision towardsothers and bind humanity in onecollective spiritual consciousness– what we do individually toourselves is exactly what wetranslate globally; violence willproduce more violence; peacewill reciprocate peace.Essentially, we all are our ownconduits. Whenever we areobserving negativity in othersand labelling them as criminalsor culprits, the same negativityis also infecting us all the time.Until we do not come out of ourpersistent negative thinking, wewill continue to highlight thenegativity in people andsituations.

TRUE LOVE IS ALTRUISTICAND UNCONDITIONAL

Co-operation makes the problems look small and also solves them.

What is true love?People may havedifferent definitions

of it, but many of us must agreethat true love is altruistic andunconditional; it means love toothers without expectingsomething in return from them.But, we human beings find it(giving) so difficult as we wanta return for everything we give,including love. We begin toexpect things. From thatexpectation, comes need, evenjealousy and also attachment –the notion that we deserve toget back something because ofour love that we give to others,and then unhappiness isexperienced when ourexpectations are not met. If weexpect something in return ofgiving anything, is it really love?Certainly not. Because, the firstand foremost aspect of truelove is the pure intention andcapacity to offer joy andhappiness without anycondition. To develop thatcapacity, we have to practiselooking at the Mother Nature.Nature expresses itself asgiving unconditional love ineverything it gives to others. It

gives abundantly altruisticallyand unconditionally, and alsoalmost indiscriminately. We canobserve examples of suchexpression in trees that provideoxygen, shade and shelter to allimpartially (even to those whocut its branches or even cut itdown completely) and in thesun that nourishes the earthevery day, rising and settingunfailingly. What will happen ifall of Nature’s elements startasking for a return for theirservices? What will occur if wehad and have to pay taxes toget sunlight or the air tobreathe? Life would not havebeen possible and won’t bepossible on earth.

Because, Nature’s way ofworking is to give, it haseverything in abundance. Itnever asks for a return. Sungives light to everybody; treesgive shade to all, and watersatisfies thirst of all creaturesand wets everything that comesin its contact. This happensbecause they follow and actaccording to their real nature.Similarly, the real and essentialnature of human being is thatof love, peace and bliss. When

we realize our real and essentialnature, we will become “lovepersonified” and we won’thave to keep any conditions forgiving our love to others. But,when we forget the essence ofour true essential and originalspiritual nature, we indulge incompetition and one-upmanshipin the everyday rush of life. And the only way to be freeagain is to realize our self andtreat others as ourselves andstart being selfless and givingaltruistically and unconditionally.The more we give selflessly, thehappier we will feel andreceive the returnsautomatically. The returns aremanifold when something isdone without expectations.And that is love in the realsense, which generates truehappiness.

We all experience love insome form or the other from ourfamily members and friends,relatives or acquaintances; but,it is difficult to find sustainabletrue love in life as it issomewhat rare. True love is joyfor the spirit, a pure energy oflight, a gift so precious andwonderful. It is the sole drivingpower behind everything. Itcrosses unimaginableboundaries, builds bridges thatbind us all across space and time,with potential to eliminate everyother barrier that may existbetween the spirit and thephysical worlds. It is spiritual,a bond between spirits that isunbreakable by any divide andcircumstance. It is these purebonds of love that bind us througheternity, immortally, forever. It isthe greatest of all riches wecould ever conceive to possess.

True love is also thecommunication of infinitefeelings, where nothing is left to

hide. We give true love to eachother as a testament of the bondthat will always exist betweentwo spirits that joins them,allowing them to shine brightlyalways. It is, indeed, selfless anddoesn’t demand anything fromthe person you love.

emotion of joy as it bridges gapsand brings closeness in relations.Love is our natural quality. Thepower of true love is the greatestpower in this world. Love canmelt a stone, what to speak ofhearts. In these days, ‘love’ has beenthe most misinterpreted andmisused word. The virtue oflove has now become perverted.People are found to be falling inlove but not rising in love. Lovemust not be confused withphysical sensation or sexualattraction, because usually lustis mistaken to be love. This isbased on selfishness, give andtake. Wherever there is jealousy,possessiveness or selfishness,there is lack of love. A personwith true love does not wish toimprison one he/she loves. Truelove comes to liberate and to setus free. A person with true lovedoes not demand anything. Truelove is divine and universal.

Difference betweenspiritual and physical love

The difference between true

spiritual love and physical loveis drastic and of greatimportance. Spiritual love givespositive results to individual, withpeace of mind and joy whereasphysical love delivers misery andunhappiness in life. True spirituallove seeks only the highest goodof others; it lacks self-interest,self-gratification and self-preservation. It is motivatedprimarily by the interest andwelfare of others. Today,physical love is the kind of lovemostly known by the world. Itseeks to satisfy only the sensesof the individual and is limited inscope. It is simply pleasure ofthe flesh. It is often based onselfishness, give and take andmutual demand whereas spirituallove is pure, unconditional andunselfish. Soul-consciousness isthe basis for sustaining true, purespiritual love.

Love yourself firstLove is something you can’t

give without possessing;something you can’t trust withoutliving it; and something you can’tunderstand withoutcomprehending. Use love as thestrength to keep going, andpushing yourself through allobstacles. You should not forgetall the beauty love brings. It’s notrealistic to love your neighbour,unless you love yourself first.If you feel unhappy aboutyourself, you cannot love others.

For the love to be real, it has toflow outward from yourself.One simple technique to makelove real is to focus on yourvirtues. You are very specialperson, because no one canplay your role better than you.Every day, pat yourself on theback for the good traits youhave and be proud of what youhave achieved. Are you acaring friend? A hard worker?Sincere? Take pleasure in yourstrengths. Celebrate your winsno matter how big or small, anddo not fairly compare yourselfto someone else.

Tell yourself that there is noother person in this world likeyou. You deserve to be lovednot only by those around youbut by the most importantperson in your life –You. Themore you have love for the self,the more happy and efficientyou’ll be. Only when you loveyourself, you can radiate love.When faced with difficultstruggles of life, or confrontingpersonal mistakes, failures, andinadequacies, treat yourselfwith the kindness, concern, andsupport.

To lovehumanity, show compassionwhen someone is in pain,appreciate the little things inother’s life, help others at timeswhen they need that help themost, try to bring back the smilesthat have faded from people’slives and treat them with loveand respect.

every task easy and puts you onthe top. To grow divine lovewithin, we must rise in love withGod. For this, it is necessary toestablish a relationship with God.Our relationship with Him iseternal and permanent. It doesnot shift or drift. God is the Lightof Lights, the Incorporeal anddoes not have a body. He is theultimate Source of love, theOcean of Love. Make God yourFather, Mother, Brother,Teacher, Friend, Master,Preceptor, Guide or yourBeloved. Let everything we do

strengthen this relationship withGod. Develop the closest,nearest, sweetest, loveliest anddearest relationship with Him.

To develop pure love for God,live with Him all the time.Therefore, talk to Him again andagain. Think about His attributesand divine acts which areimmeasurable sources ofhappiness, joy and contentment.Engage yourself in a loving,humble, intimate conversationwith Him. One, who loves God,refrains from doing anything thatmay displease Him. One mustnever be God-fearing, but God-loving. Love has no place forfear and vice versa. The love ofGod begets love in manifolddimensions. When we are lovedby the most beloved SupremeLord, we become a lover ofhumanity. To love the wholeuniverse is possible only by wayof loving the Supreme. Lovefulremembrance of Him is calledRajyoga Meditation.

there is love, one does not find fault withothers but looks at their plus points andspecial qualities. No matter how manymistakes there are, in love one endures themall. Love does not focus on what is wrong,but what is originally and intrinsically rightwithin a person.

There is no criticism in love; so, do notbe judgemental of those you love. Stopsubjecting people to expectations and trials.Do not have expectations from them but betheir well-wisher. Accept their presence inyour life as it is. Forgive your loved oneseven if they commit mistakes. Selfless truelove comes from the thought of goodwill andwish for others’ wellbeing, and this is thebasis of our wellbeing.

Understand that love can only be givenand not sought. Love begets love. The onlyway to find love is by giving it. Do not expectreciprocity in loving relationships. Be donorsof love like deities. If you love othershonestly, you, in turn, will get love. If youcan look at everything lovingly, the wholeworld becomes beautiful in your experienceand you will realize that love is notsomething that you do; love is the way youare.

To realize love, discover your true self.Once you know yourself, you will becomemore confident and you will understand yourpurpose of life. “I’m not a body with a soul,rather I’m an invisible soul that carries avisible costume, called the body.” This soul-consciousness is the basis of realizing andexperiencing true love in life.

Some people think that our consciousnesscomes from the brain and not the soul. But,if one ponders over this question deeply,

one will come to the question that there is somehidden power in the body, which controls its variousorgans. It co-ordinates their functions andremembers the experience it gets through them.This power does not rest in elements of matter, it isdivine in its nature, because we find that somechildren remember the events from their past lifealso. This shows that though the previous body andthe brain were burnt to ashes, there is a spiritualentity, which is continue to exist and which has nowtaken the present body and the brain.

Consciousness is another word for soul or spirit.The soul is the energy that experiences life throughthe body and its physical organs. The term ‘soul’should not be confused with the brain as the brainis the soul’s control panel; it provides the facilitiesfor the soul’s expression. The soul is actuallylooking through the windows of the eyes from somepoint inside the head. The sentient functions arecontrolled and monitored through the nervous andhormonal systems from a particular point in the areaof the brain housing the thalamus, hypothalamus,pituitary and pineal glands. This region is known asthe seat of the soul or the third eye of spiritualknowledge. This spiritual knowledge encourageseach of us to visualize ourselves as a spiritual being,an infinitesimally tiny star, a soul rather than seeingthe self as a woman, or man. We are spiritual beingsrather than the physical ones.

On the very first day of myvisit, a startling momentoccurred. I had been led by myBrahma Kumari teacher-sisterinto the room where I was tomeet Him. I sat face-to-facewith Brahma Baba. Someothers, who had come in ourgroup from Delhi, also sataround. There were also someBrahma Kumaris and BrahmaKumars, who were imparting agreat spiritual aroma to theatmosphere. Suddenly, I feltmyself cut off from mysurrounding and detached frommy body. I found myself in a seaof golden light and experiencedan indescribable thrill and aconsummating bliss.

Strange torrential currents ofpeace had descended on me andhad penetrated into my mind andfilled my soul. In that state – as

I can recall now – I had not evena slight feeling of being anembodied spirit but I experiencedthe extreme joy of being face-to-face with God – the phrases‘face-to-face’ being onlymetaphorical, because in thatholy union or encounter neitherof us had a physical face.Without God’s physical arms, Ifelt I was in His embrace. Agreat spiritual magnetism haddrawn my soul to the HoliestSpirit, and there was great surgeof love from Him that inundatedme. The light of that SupremeLight touched me and gave mesuch a wonderful, soothing,comforting, refreshing,enlivening and enrapturingexperience that I could notcontain myself and anexpression of this welled outfrom me.

Suddenly, I felt that I was anembodied being but, for a longtime, I did not feel myself of thebody nor had I any gross feelingas I had before this ecstatic‘moment’. I call it a moment notin terms of sidereal timebecause I had lost all sense oftime then, and when I returnedto the physical, its cherishedmemory gave me the feeling thatit was, as compared to eternity,not even a moment. However,ever since that moment, Godwas more real to me than evena mountain. And, the words

uttered by God, “Bachey,Ladley Meethey Bachey”(Child, O My fondling, My SweetChild ) had very much enteredinto my life. This was theprecursor to my later divineexperiences – all ennobling andenrapturing.

But, I know that over the pasttwo thousand years or more,there has been prevalent, in somesections of mankind, the beliefthat man can neither see nor hearGod. Long ago, the saying hadgone round that the sight of Godis “what man’s flesh and bloodcannot bear”. It was thought that“to be in the presence of God isa shattering experience”; toperceive God is to be crushedby His majesty. Example is givenof Arjuna of the Gita-fame,who, on seeing a vision of whatis called His “Universal Form”said: “... the world is terrified;so am I.”1 Examples are alsogiven, from the Bible, of Isaiah,Abrahim and Moses. WhenIsaiah had a vision of the God,he said.”...I am undone.”2 It iseven said that he, who sees God,cannot remain alive,3 and thatwhen God appeared untoMoses, “the people trembled ....the mountain trembled greatly.”4

But, it is a pity that, in thiscontext, people convenientlyforget that the words ‘cannotremain alive”, etc. aremetaphorical. These divine

words have been used to express aspiritual experience, of which theparallel is only the physical death.When a person physically dies, hetakes rebirth in another family; hismemories of the past physicalrelationships, etc. usually getobliterated and forgotten; similarly,when a person gets a vision of God,the Holiest Father and the Lord ofthe hosts, he also dies a ‘death’, i.e.,dies of the old materialistic world,so to say, is “spiritually reborn”.It is in this sense that the statement“one who sees God cannot remainalive” is meaningful. So, it would be of graveloss to man to believe thathe cannot have a perceptionof Supreme Being or that theexperience of God’spresence is shattering. Hispresence is shattering onlyin the metaphorical sense,for a vision or experience ofGod breaks the hard veil ofone’s ignorance.

For us, not only is theexperience of God apossibility but a spiritualbirthright of every soul, and

it is also a blissful experiencepar excellence, which anyone,who endeavours to be holy, canhave. The present era, called theSangam Yuga is theextraordinary period for an easyand successful union with God.
