Brief introduction about classification of centrifugal pump 1. Classify by quantity of impeller # single-stage pump: only one impeller in the pump shaft. # Multi-stage pump: two or more than two of the impeller in the pump shaft, now the head
of delivery is the total head delivery of all impeller. 2. Classify by the working pressure # low pressure pump: the pressure is less than 100 m water column; # medium pressure pump: pressure between 100~650 m water column; # high-pressure pump: pressure is higher than 650 m water column. 3. Classify by impeller inlet # unilateral water pump: this pump also called by single suction pump, there is only one inlet in the impeller. # double inlet type pump: this pump
also called by double suction pump, there is water inlet in both sides of the impeller. Its flow is twice as big as single suction pump, can be approximated as two single suction impeller back to back together.
4.Classify by pump casing joints # horizontal plane through the axis line. # vertical combination pump 5. Classify by shaft position # horizontal pump: pump shaft is positioned in the horizontal position. # vertical pump: the pump shaft in a vertical position. 6.
