Part Four – Jack ____Read: pages 133 – 185 ____Reflect: Reflect on how Jack lost some of his cool friends in order to gain a true friend. What does this mean to you? On page 137, Veronica says to Jack, “Sometimes you don’t have to mean to hurt someone to hurt someone.” Reflect on what this means to you. Do you agree with this statement? Presentations: A Personal Family Precept

For your presentations, you will create a family precept. You will present your family precept on the night of the Book Club

Celebration, Tuesday, May 5.

On page 46, Mr. Browne defines a precept as: “Like a motto!” said Mr. Browne, nodding as he continued writing on the board. “Like a

famous quote. Like a line from a fortune cookie. Any saying or ground rule that can motivate you. Basically a precept is anything that helps guide us when making decisions

about really important things.”

You will find many examples of precepts throughout the book:

ü Every new part of the book starts with a precept about each character. ü Mr. Browne, Auggie’s fifth grade teacher, gives his students a new precept every

month of the school year. ü Mr. Brown asks his students to write a precept of their own during summer break.

ü Read the precepts on each new part of the book (Parts 1 – 8). ü Read pages 43 – 48. ü Pay attention to songs you hear on the radio. ü Look up quotes by famous people on the internet.
