“Look closely at the present you are constructing. It should look like the future you are dreaming.” -Alice Walker

Dear Friends of The Wolf School:

Have you ever put an addition on your home, or remodeled your kitchen?

If so, does the word challenging come to mind?! That’s how it felt for us

many times at The Wolf School as our new educational and community

space was under construction. Things got delayed at times, space needed

to be shared and classes were moved around. But through it all everyone

was flexible and positive, knowing the outcome would be worth it.

And it was! We can’t thank you enough for supporting Wolf’s Growing

Our Vision Campaign, allowing us to expand and enhance our building

during the 2016-2017 school year. By June 2017 almost all of the pieces

were in place, with only a few finishes to the Library and Faculty Room

arriving this fall. Our new and renovated space accommodates more

students, more learning and more connections – thanks to you!

But you didn’t stop there! You followed up with incredible support of our

Annual Fund, amazing turnout at our fundraising gala, Discover the

Difference, and extraordinary patronage of our Scholarship Fund for

financial aid, including a brand-new K-2 Financial Aid Initiative to support

our youngest Complex Learners. We had a fantastic year, watching our

vision take shape, working with wonderful volunteers, and seeing our

students transform as they found the tools to build a foundation for

learning, exploring and celebrating their best selves.

Through it all, your steadfast support and belief in our students has made

the difference! You have given them the space and tools for today that will

transform their tomorrows! We feel honored to be part of our students’

journeys and grateful that you’ve helped build the foundation their dreams

will stand on.

With appreciation,

Anna Johnson, Head of School

19 Young Golfers

This year our Golf Outing included a special one-hour Putt & Chip Clinic

for Wolf students sponsored by Wannamoisett Country Club. Special

guest 2016 Jr. Ryder Cup Player, Patrick Welch, older brother of current

Wolf student Jack, joined the pros to give our young golfers tips and

encouragement. A post-clinic Sundae bar sponsored by Chapel Building

Corporation hit the spot for a great day on the green!

58 Winter Sleds

Thanks to Mars Plastics and the Krikorian family, every Wolf student

received a new winter sled at the end of our All School Holiday Event. Just

in time for winter break, this generous tradition sends our students off

smiling and ready for their next snow day!

8 Fabulous New Spaces

Our Growing Our Vision Campaign was a huge success! Here’s what’s been

added to our beautiful building thanks to your generosity and

volunteerism: a new classroom, a new faculty room, 3 new offices, a new

Sensory Courtyard, and two newly remodeled spaces creating a Library

and Community Room. What a difference a year makes!

10 UkulelesA new addition to our music program, these wonderful instruments were

taught in an elective and in the after school program, leading to several

fabulous performances and a whole lot of fun! Students learned multiple

folk songs, but the highlight was a performance of “The Wolf School Song”

at Closing Ceremonies. Rock on!

100s of Peace Signs

It was a step back in time as families and staff entered the Fall

2016 dance wearing bell bottoms, tie dye and peace signs! Food,

games, more peace signs, and a throwback Yellow Submarine

photo booth made for a groovy night! Thanks to the Wolf School

Parent Organization for putting on such a great event!

From ball gowns to coat tails, our Middle School students looked

the part in their fabulous production, The King Who Thought He

Could Sing. This theater elective for Middle School students

deserves a standing ovation, providing a creative and fun

opportunity to learn lines, make sets, and push through stage

fright for skill building and fun!

Wolf Alumni Profiles

According to Emily McKenney, currently a boarding student in her senior year at

Forman High School, there are no fake smiles at The Wolf School. “It’s a joyful

place, and the first time I walked through the doors in 5th grade, I knew I

belonged here.”

Before she came to The Wolf School, Emily remembers not having friends or the

confidence and ability to make friends. During her four years at Wolf she learned

strategies to help her with social skills and relationships. Wolf taught her to be

flexible and that you don’t need to change who you are to get people to like you.

Eli Porter, Class of 2009

Emily McKenney, Class of 2014

Proud to be a member of the second class ever enrolled at Wolf, Eli

Porter’s first grade teacher was Anna Johnson, our current Head of

School. Eli remembers moving from the small space at the Jewish

Community Center in Providence, to our current location in East

Providence. And was he happy when the Pelson Center was built! He

loved the gym and participating in Wolf’s sports programs. Eli made a

lot of great friends at Wolf and enjoys attending alumni events.

After Wolf, Eli went to Barrington Public Schools where he was enrolled

in both regular and special education classes. Eli feels that Wolf helped

him be more independent, making the adjustment to public school and

larger classes easier. When Eli graduated from high school he attended

the Transitions Program at Roger Williams University, where he now

works during the school year in the food service department.

This summer, Eli participated in a culinary training program at Amos

House and was able to do an internship at Easy Entertaining, a

restaurant and catering business in Providence. Kaitlyn Roberts, the

company’s owner, has been a great supporter of Wolf, even co-chairing

our Discover the Difference event in the past. Eli did prep work in the

kitchen and also went on catering deliveries and set up. He enjoyed

helping out at special dinners held at the café and hopes to continue

working there in the summer to learn more from the supportive staff.

Eli has come a long way from his early years at Wolf (above) to his recent internship at Easy Entertaining,

as pictured below with Executive Chef, Ashley Vanasse

Gianna was at The Wolf School from first grade through her eighth-grade

graduation, so leaving Wolf and transitioning to a new school wasn’t easy.

She knew she would miss her friends and all the things she loved about Wolf,

like Move To Learn and the fun field trips.

But now, as a junior at Lincoln High School, she’s doing great, enjoying

science and geometry, and going to the weight room to work out. And they

have fun field trips at Lincoln, too! Gianna learned a lot at Wolf that helped

her make the transition to High School, including how to talk to different

people by introducing yourself and making eye contact, or how to wait to

take your turn in sports and games. She felt prepared and confident enough

to join the swim team at Lincoln, and loves it, getting a lot of support from

her teammates when they compete at swim meets.

Outside of school, Gianna keeps busy participating in Special Olympics

where she enjoys swimming, softball, tennis and bowling. She also belongs to

Social Sparks, a social emotional learning center where she participates in

activities and makes new friends. She loves to cook as well, inspired by

cooking electives at Wolf and her love of cooking shows on television!

Gianna would like to work in an office when she graduates, and keep active

with sports and social outings. She is a thoughtful, fun and busy teenager,

with the drive and positive attitude to make her future dreams come true.

Gianna Mardo, Class of 2015

Emily McKenney, Class of 2014These lessons from Wolf have had a big impact on Emily. The theme of

“learning to be okay with who you are” is what she chose to write about in

her college essay. And while she loves theater and science at Forman, she

wants to go to college to become an Occupational Therapist. Wolf’s own

Kelly McDonald is her role model!

On a recent visit at Wolf, Emily reconnected with her reading buddy, Vivian,

that she had as an eighth grader. Now Vivian is an eighth grader herself and

Emily can’t believe how quickly the time has passed. Emily loved the staff and

students at Wolf because it felt like a family to her. As she explains, “Wolf

will always be a part of me.”

Donor SpotlightMalcolm G. Chace, Jr.

When Malcolm Chace came to visit The Wolf School and heard about our new

K-2 Financial Aid Initiative, he didn’t hesitate to act. Pledging $160,000 towards

the goal of $324,000, Malcolm’s extraordinary gift, along with support from other

generous donors, is giving young children early access to a Wolf education.

This connection to Wolf felt right to Malcolm on many levels. Carrying on the

philanthropic interests of his father, Malcolm “Kim” G. Chace, to support

children and education is important, but in addition, Kim Chace made an

inaugural gift that sparked The Wolf School’s founding. And on a personal level,

Malcolm’s son was diagnosed with a mild case of dyslexia in first grade. By

enrolling his son in the right school, he believes it made all the difference.

Providing other families with financial aid to Wolf means they don’t have to wait

and watch their children fall further behind.

Malcolm hopes his actions will inspire others to give. “It’s a rewarding

experience to see your donation make a difference and provide opportunities for

children. Any parent understands what it’s like to want what’s best for your child’s

education and happiness. If you can help provide that, what better gift is there?”

Malcolm G. Chace, Jr. hopes his actions will inspire others to give
