HOLIDAY GIVING: ANOTHER WAY THAT SARATOGA HOSPITAL STAFF HELP HEALTHE COMMUNITY- For employees at Saratoga Hospital, the holiday season is a time to help

eal the community by fulfilling wishes for area children and seniors in need, supporting fellowtaff members and, this year, reaching out to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Following are just somexamples of hospital employees recent generosity:Serving as Santa for Seniors: Hospital staffrovided gifts for more than 100 seniors served by Home Instead Senior Cares Be a Santa to aenior program. Seniors names and gift requests are written on paper ornaments, which are hungn a tree in the hospital. Within an hour, the tree was bareand hospital employees were askingor more names. Filling Empty Stockings: The hospital once again participated in the Saratoga

County Childrens Committee Empty Stockings program. Staff adopted 45 area children and

rovided every item on their wish lists. Stocking Pantry Shelves: The hospitals Public Safetyeam held a food drive to benefit local pantries, donating seven large cartons filled with non-erishable items. Benefiting Catholic Charities: A tree decorated by employees on the hospitals

D1 medical/surgical/telemetry floor won Best in Show at the annual Saratoga Festival of Trees.Even more important, the tree was sold for $400 all of which went to Catholic Charities of

aratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties, beneficiary of the event. Acting as Secret Santa:Families of five hospital employees are having a happier holiday, courtesy of the hospitals Public

afety Department. Public Safety staff raised over $1,000 and served as Secret Santa to hospitalolleagues facing hardships this year. Reaching Out to Hurricane Victims: Staff at the hospitals

Wilton Medical Arts and Saratoga Family Physicians offices opted to forgo their traditionalThanksgiving celebration, using the money instead to buy essential supplies for victims of Hurricane

andy. Supplies were delivered to NYPD Community Affairs Bureau, which distributed them inNew York City and Long Island.

COURTNEY LUSKIN, RENSSELAER COUNTY DAIRY PRINCESS, REPORTS:Theholiday season is here and in full swing. Its one of my favorite times of the year, spendingtime with great family and friends. We often get caught up with all the tasty treats, holidayparties, and big meals. Remember to keep yourself on a healthy tract with your diet andexercise. Each day try to get yourself and your children to exercise for at least sixty minutes.Go for a walk, make up a holiday game to play with family, and go outside to play in thesnow, if we get any. Be sure to stay away from all the holiday treats and enjoy some healthysnacks. Dont be afraid to bring a healthy treat to parties and serve healthy meals for yourfamily. One important item to keep in check is the beverages that you drink. Stay away fromsport drinks, juices, iced teas, and soda, not only are these drinks mostly full of sugar, butthey provide you with very few nutrients. Milk is your best choice, providing you withnine essential nutrients and a powerhouse of flavor. Many of the nutrients that milk containsare lacking in many peoples diets today. So during this holiday season keep thinkingabout watching your diet and booting up your exercise to keep healthy. Enjoy your happy

and healthy holiday season with those who you appreciate this year.

This recipe is for my favorite appetizer, it is easy and a great treat is to have the kids help.Spending time with family is what the holidays are all about.
