seGa show The sega dance is originated from the ritual music of madagascar and the mainland of africa, and it is the musical expression of the mauritian way of Life: joy and liveliness. many singers had thought of also bringing forward the english version of the sega songs but later resolved not to proceed with it so as to preserve the uniqueness and cultural richness of the local music of mauritius. The original instruments are fast disappearing, making way for the more conventional orchestra ensemble. however, all along the coastal fishing villages, the traditional instruments such as the “ravanne”, “Triangle”, the “maravanne” and the traditional guitar are still being used.

meThod season the lobster with salt, pepper, olive oil and tandoori paste. Let marinade for 1 hour in the fridge.

seared the lobster on a grill and put it in the oven to cook completely for 5 minutes at 170 degrees. cut in six medaillons before serving.

for the sweet potato puree, add butter, cream, cardamom powder, salt and pepper. Let heat on medium fire.

sautéed all the blanched vegetables with onion, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper

for the sauce, reduce the white wine by ¾, add cream, saffron pistils, salt and pepper. add butter and serve.

dispose neatly all the above as on the picture and garnish the plate with a big spoon of sauce.

Turtle bay known to old seafarers since centuries as a safe and secure anchorage where they could replenish fresh water and food on their voyages to and from the east.

between 1598 and 1710, the dutch tried several times to establish a colony. The captains of the dutch east india company gave it the name “schildpatt’s baai”. The abundant ebony forests which covered the northern part of mauritius provided best ship building material to repair broken masts or damaged vessels.

in 1735, the first Governor of the french east india company, mahé de Labourdonnais, decided to establish Port Louis as the main harbour of the island, instead of Grand Port. Turtle bay then became more significant. around 1740, a naval arsenal was built, as well as an iron foundry and a gunpowder factory. in order to procure water for the workshops, a dam was built across the ‘rivière citron’ in 1743. This dam is still existent today. 8th may 1748, admiral boscawen anchored in Turtle bay with a fleet of 23 british ships, in an attempt to take over mauritius from the french. however, they got under heavy fire from the cannons of the Turtle bay and Tombeau bay batteries and never managed to land. after 4 days the fleet left, anxious to reach india before the monsoon season.

facing the resort, Turtle bay was the first zone to be proclaimed a national marine park. sheltered from the south east trade winds, this part of the island is ideal for snorkelling and diving, given its very rich marine environment.

endless varieties of corals, fish and turtles live in harmony in this underwater protected paradise.

it is an extensive service offered to our youngest guests throughout the resort. hello and welcome to sunny mauritius, my name is Gino and i was born to entertain you... the hardest task ever, and i like it :)

having joined starwood hotels & resorts since 2008 and building my team of crazy folks since the opening of The westin Turtle bay resort & spa, i confess that i love working within such a beautiful property.

as a native mauritian, i enjoy creating fun experiences for our guests and team members. Like obelix (the french cartoon character), i felt in the cauldron of entertainment since my childhood.

i also believe that music is The universal language especially when it comes to guitars. feel free to meet with me for a local music initiation around a refreshing cocktail.
