Key Club Volume 9 Issue 4 October 22, 1999 Hey Key Clubbers We have always considered the length of our meetings ot be a problem, and many of you would agree. We understand that it is Friday, and you want to leave the school as soon as possible. The only way that this can be achieved is with your help. We would appreciate it if you do not sign the attendance sheet until after the meeting. This way we can start the meetings earlier, and you can leave sooner. Thanx Yours in caring service, The Key Club Cabinet Thursday 10/21 was the very first Key Club Bake Sale, and I'm glad to say that it was a total success! Thanks to the dedication of all of you, our highly valued and cherished members. Many of you brought in a variety of baked goods and sweets, such as muffins, cupcakes, candy, cookies, cakes, munchkins, and donuts. Others brought in drinks and napkins as well. A lot of people gave up their free periods to lend a hand at selling the goodies. During peak hours, the bake sale did get very hectic, as there were too many buyers and less than enough food. Fortunately a couple of us were willing to go out and get more. As in all bake sales, we got the typical Stuyvesant comments "Can I get it for free?" and "aww why not?!?" Some tenacious people even tried to steal some food, but to no avail, since they weren't able to escape the shrewd eyes of our fellow Key Clubbers. (Corny enough for you?) But seriously, I want to take this chance to thank all those who participated in the bake sale, which brought in a total of (drum roll) $450.50! Without the dedication that you guys put forth, the bake sale could not have been so prosperous. Everyone who participated will get points: 40 for each period, and 30 for each item brought in. Part of the money we earned will go to the NY District Convention Fund and part of it will go to KC sponsored charities such as IDD. Good news! All people who paid dues before 10/10 got a freebie of 120 points! For those who haven't paid yet, you can still get a freebie of 60 points if you pay by Friday 11/12. So pay up! One last thing, Key Club needs a lot of money, for the District Convention trip (details will be mentioned at a later time) and for donations to the various Key Club International sponsored charities. Our goal this year is to raise $4,000. Including the bake sale money, we currently have $750, which is only about 1/6 of what we're striving for. Throughout the years, we have always sold candy (Airheads, lollipops, Kit Kats, m&m's, etc) to raise money. The candies will be pre-arranged to include different varieties in a box, and each box will be worth $20. For each $1 you sell, you'll get 2 points; so a box is worth 40 points, quite a good deal. Further details will be given regarding the specifications of candy selling. If you're interested in selling candy, please sign up on the sign up sheets. But if you're an old member with previous experience you may come see me, or the Fundraising Committee Chairs Milci and Caroline immediately. Finally done! Bake Sale News

Calendar of Events:

Nov. 14: Come to the 92 St. YMCA for Teensgiving. We

will feed the homeless, paint park benches, work with

disabled children and socialize with the elderly. 9am-

2pm

Mondays and Tuesdays: Help out at the Police

Athletic League by assisting kids with their homework

and playing with them as well. This falls under the

Governor’s Project.

Wednesdays and Thursdays: Meet up with fellow

Momentum team members after school on either day to

go to the Momentum sites, where you’ll prepare desserts

for AIDS patients. No culinary experience necessary.

Saturdays: Lend a hand at Bowery Mission Soup

Kitchen: serve lunch to the community’s homeless, help

prepare meals, sort donations and usher patrons to their

dining seats. This is, and probably will continue to be,

one of most popular events.

Sundays: Come and volunteer at the Silver Lake

Nursing Home in Staten Island. You can help care for

the elderly and learn some really cool things and meet

really interesting people.

PROJECT CAPTAIN: We are

looking for people who are interested in becoming a project captain for an on-going event. This is a position which comes with a lot of responsibility and dedication. The project captain has to call the members who signed up for the particular event and give them directions to the site. The captain must act as a leader at the event by assigning jobs to people and keeping things organized. He/she must also commit to attending a certain event frequently (such as every week or ever other week). If this description fits you, please

Don’t F o rget: Keep collecting more money for your UNICEF boxes. Since there is no meeting next week (Open School Week, half day on Friday), we will collect the boxes on Friday, Novermber 5. Keep up the good work, and keep bothering all ur friends to give more money.
