The Weekly
,
Awesome Graduates, a Gator, & a GREAT day- I’m still on cloud nine and giving God praise for a wonderful day of worship on Sunday. To see our worship center filling up, smiles on so many faces, and Jesus magnified and praised… Trinity, I don’t think it gets any better. I’m so excited for the days ahead and confident the Lord has incredible things in store for His church. Let me encourage you to be faithful to be here, be faithful to serve & be faithful to give! The Bible says, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do ALL to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 Lets each one of us give HIM our best as we strive to BE the church and love people! June 3rd is a very important day in our community and county. As your pastor I encourage you to be praying that God will lead you to vote according to His will. One very important pressing issue is the wet/dry referendum. Many of our faith family have asked questions about our stance on this issue. On the back of The Weekly you will find a statement from your staff and deacon team.
Faith family, I love you guys with all my heart and I’m blessed to be your pastor!
Let’s Arise and Build!
Richie D. Thompson Senior Pastor

Music Ministry DeWayne Fowler Page 3 Wow, this has been loaded day at TBC. We began our 2014 Senior Day by praising the Ancient of Days. We had a platform full of seniors from several area high schools. They are completing this chapter of their lives and we are praying for God's favor on them as they began this new chapter. Then, we began to worship! Made Me Glad is one of my most favorite songs. It reminds me Jesus is my shield and my portion. As we began to declare God's greatness, His presence moved in around us. By the time we got to singing blessing and honor and glory and power forever during the next song, the worship had become strong in the sanctuary as we cried our praise. It was super! Our choir did a great job singing Made To Live For You. This coming Sunday is the last time our choir will sing before we take our summer break. But let me go ahead and tell you now, the choir music this fall is incredible. You better get ready! Hallelujah to the King!
We had another great time at the Baccalaureate service Sunday evening. Two of the students read their favorite scriptures and I was especially proud of my daughter, Desiree', as she sang I Look To You. The whole day was awesome so let me say again . . . God is up to something big at TBC.
I want to say a huge, special thank you to the folks in the sound booth. We've thrown a lot at them lately and they are doing a wonderful job. Speaking of wonderful, thank you to the Kitchen Crew and the Young At Heart for their help with the food for the Baccalaureate Service. You folks are awesome and I'm grateful for your help. Thank you to all the wonderful TBC family that decorated, cooked, served, and cleaned up. Every one of those jobs was a ministry need you provided to our community.
Have a super week and invite someone this Sunday as we recognize our armed services.

Statement on Alcohol
On Tuesday, June 3 Trinity residents will have the opportunity to vote on whether or not to allow the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages within town limits. In recent weeks, many have asked for our church leadership’s official stance on this particular issue and on the matter of alcohol consumption in general. While we recognize that alcohol consumption and sales are issues with which Christians disagree, the leadership of Trinity Baptist Church offers the following responses.
1. We affirm the Southern Baptist Convention’s 2006 Resolution On Alcohol Use In America:
WHEREAS, Years of research confirm biblical warnings that alcohol use leads to physical, mental, and emotional damage (e.g., Proverbs 23:29-35); and WHEREAS, Alcohol use has led to countless injuries and deaths on our nation's highways; and WHEREAS, The breakup of families and homes can be directly and indirectly attributed to alcohol use by one or more members of a family; and WHEREAS, The use of alcohol as a recreational beverage has been shown to lead individuals down a path of addiction to alcohol and toward the use of other kinds of drugs, both legal and illegal; and WHEREAS, There are some religious leaders who are now advocating the consumption of alcoholic beverages based on a misinterpretation of the doctrine of "our freedom in Christ"; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina, June 13-14, 2006, express our total opposition to the manufacturing, advertising, distributing, and consuming of alcoholic beverages; and be it further RESOLVED, That we urge that no one be elected to serve as a trustee or member of any entity or committee of the Southern Baptist Convention that is a user of alcoholic beverages. RESOLVED, That we urge Southern Baptists to take an active role in supporting legislation that is intended to curb alcohol use in our communities and nation; and be it further RESOLVED, That we urge Southern Baptists to be actively involved in educating students and adults concerning the destructive nature of alcoholic beverages; and be it finally RESOLVED, That we commend organizations and ministries that treat alcohol-related problems from a biblical perspective and promote abstinence and encourage local churches to begin and/or support such biblically-based ministries.
2. Alcohol consumption and addiction is one of the nation’s greatest problems. Alcohol contributes to more deaths in America than any other drug. Some may argue that believers have freedom to consume alcohol and that the Bible does not prohibit it, as long as one does not get drunk. However, Scripture clearly shows that abstinence is always God’s ideal, drunkenness is always a sin, and, although there is Christian liberty, the believer is responsible to act in ways that glorify God and edify others.
Throughout the Old and New Testaments, Scripture prohibits consuming strong drink and condemns drunkenness (Lev. 10:9; Duet. 29:6; Num. 6:2-3; Prov. 20:1; 23:29-35; 31:4-5; Isa. 5:11; Rom. 13:3; 1 Cor. 5:11; 6:9-10; Gal. 5:20; Eph. 5:18; 1 Thess. 5:7).
Drunkenness is a serious sin, but that is not the only reason to abstain from alcohol. Indeed, there are some twenty reasons listed for abstaining from intoxicants in the Bible.
1. It slows the thinking process (Prov. 31:4-5).
2. It makes one dizzy (Job 12:25).
3. It is associated with self-centeredness (Hab. 2:5).
4. It causes sickness (Jer. 25:27).
5. It causes forgetfulness (Prov. 31:6-7).
6. It produces delirious visions or dreams (Prov. 23:33).
7. It results in sleepiness (Gen. 9:20-25).
8. It produces complacence and laziness (Zeph. 1:12).
9. It numbs one’s feelings (Prov. 23:31-35).
10. It leads to poverty (Prov. 21:17).
11. It leads to brokenness (Jer. 23:9).
12. It results in sadness and depression (Isa. 16:9-10).
13. It causes sorrow (Prov. 23:29-30).
14. It produces blackouts (Gen. 19:33-35).
15. It leads to immorality (Joel 3:3).
16. It encourages sexual perversion (Hab. 2:15).
17. It results in guilt (Isa. 24:20).
18. It causes injuries (Prov. 23:35).
19. It can result in insanity (Jer. 51:7).
20. It makes persons vulnerable to their enemies (2 Sam. 13:28).
Alcohol consumption and addiction often leads to poor judgment and bodily harm. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Paul reminds believers that our body is not our own, it is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we're to glorify God with our bodies. Drunkenness not only affects our bodies but also does not glorify God.
In response to the argument for Christian freedom, Scripture is clear that believers should abstain from anything that is not edifying. In 1 Corinthians 10 Paul argues that believers should act in ways that glorify God and contribute to their own and other’s spiritual growth. In Ephesians 4:1 Paul exhorts that believers must be careful to act in ways that are worthy of their divine calling: “Therefore I, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received.” In 1 Corinthians 6 Paul writes that, although there is Christian freedom, not everything is beneficial. Finally, Paul contends in Romans 14 that believers must be sensitive to how their choices affect others and “pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another.”
In conclusion, we encourage all TBC members to prayerfully reflect on the scriptures outlined above, place their consciences captive to the Word of God, and to do everything for the glory and honor of God. And while there may be disagreement concerning this issue, as a church, we will not let this distract us from pursuing what is most important—the expansion of God’s kingdom through the work of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
